Ranchi Jan 24 PTI Jharkhands COVID-19 tally rose to 420427 on Monday as 1269 more people tested positive for the infection while eight fresh fatalities pushed the states coronavirus death toll to 5261 a health bulletin said Dumka district recorded the highest number of new cases at 285 followed by East Singhbhum at 224 and Ranchi at 199 it said Four fresh fatalities were registered in East Singhbhum under which Jamshedpur falls and one each in Deoghar Dhanbad Hazaribag and Lohardaga The state now has 19466 active cases while 395700 people have recovered from the disease so far including 3423 in the last 24 hours The administration has tested 46488 samples for COVID-19 and inoculated 76791 more people in the last 24 hours it added PTI IKD ACD ACD
Ranchi Dec 22 PTI The Jharkhand assembly on Wednesday passed the Pandit Raghunath Murmu Tribal University Bill 2021 by voice vote paving way for opening of the institution in Jamshedpur The government introduced the bill for discussion after lunch-break and it was welcomed by the ruling and opposition members However many MLAs including those of opposition BJP spoke about amendments in the bill and urged that it be sent to the assembly select committee for detailed discussion The amendment proposal was brought by BJP MLA Anant Ojha and AJSU legislator Lambodar Mahto and they urged the legislators nominated by the Speaker in the bill to be members of the executive council of the university but all these demands were rejected by the state government Congress MLAs Pradeep Yadav and Bandhu Tirkey objected to the absence of science faculty in the university and demanded its establishment The university will be based in Jamshedpur and will have jurisdiction over the entire state It will be open to all students irrespective of their class caste or creed PTI IKD ACD ACD
Ranchi Dec 22 PTI The number of registered unemployed people in Jharkhand has increased by almost six times in the last two years during the COVID-19 pandemic the state government informed the assembly on Wednesday Neither have the 645844 jobless people registered with 43 employment offices in the 24 districts got jobs nor are they receiving any unemployment allowance as of now Labour and Employment Minister Satyanand Bhokta said in a written query by Bokaros BJP MLA Biranchi Narayan The minister said that Jharkhand also has the highest joblessness among the five neighbouring states and stands fourth in the country in unemployment rate In the last 23 months there has been a spike of 638 per cent in applications by jobless youths in employment exchanges as compared to 2019 In 2019 there were 85122 registered unemployed people in the state to which 560722 were added between January 2020 and June 2021 the minister said The administration is taking steps to fill up the 329860 vacant positions in state government jobs he added PTI IKD ACD ACD
