New Delhi Jan 21 PTI The Jawaharlal Nehru University JNU administration on Friday said they have been coordinating with the police in the investigation of the alleged molestation incident on campus It said it has advised all stakeholders to share information pertaining to the incident with the agencies The students union has been criticizing the administration since the day of the incident for remaining silent on the issue The incident took place on the night of January 17 on Aryabhatta Road near JNU nursery with a PhD student The student was jumped by a man when she was walking down the road inside the campus The man allegedly attempted to rape her but when she raised an alarm he snatched her phone and fled the scene before anyone could catch him The police have not made any arrest in the matter Calling the incident reprehensible JNU Registrar Professor Ravikesh in a statement said an investigation is going on and it is requested that all stakeholders remain vigilant JNU administration with the Security Branch has been closely coordinating with the police in the process of investigation In case of any information related to this incident residents are advised to immediately intimate to the security branch or the police read the statement The statement also said that the university has zero-tolerance towards any form of violence on campus and remains committed towards providing a safer environment to all its residents on the campus PTI SLB VN VN
New Delhi Dec 29 PTI The Jawaharlal Nehru University JNU has modified the language of its public invitation for counselling on sexual harassment and removed the line girls are suppose to know how to draw a tangible line between them and their male friends that drew the ire of students and teachers The Internal Complaints Committee ICC of the university had uploaded the invitation on JNUs website saying that it will organise counselling session on sexual harassment on January 17 It also said that such sessions will be organised on a monthly basis Under the subhead why is this counselling session required the contentious point has now been replaced with Boys will be counselled to clearly distinguish between friendship and behaviour that may be considered sexual harassment Girls will be counselled how to avoid sexual harassment The move comes a day after National Commission for Women NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma sought withdrawal of the misogynist circular issued by the university Under the subhead why is the counselling session required the invite had said that it will make students aware about what consists of sexual harassment It also said that students are being counselled during the orientation programme and on the inception of each academic year and they need to refresh their knowledge about the same from time to time ICC come across a number of cases where sexual harassment takes place among close friends Boys generally cross sometimes advertently sometimes inadvertently the thin line between friendships bantering and sexual harassment Girls suppose to know how to draw a tangible line between them and their male friends to avoid any such harassments sic the earlier invite read PTI SLB AAR
