Shillong Mar 24 PTI A huge cache of ammunition was recovered close to the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalayas South West Khasi Hills district a police officer said on ThursdayActing on tip off the BSF and the Meghalaya Police launched a search operation in a dense forest in Gumaghat area along a brook that flows from India to Bangladesh and recovered the ammunition hidden in a cavity surrounded by lime stones the officer saidThe cache found wrapped in a white sack contained 92 rounds of 556mm ammunition 129 rounds of 762mm and 160 rounds of 9mm ammunition the officer statedThe seized ammunition found at a distance of 900 metres from the border has been handed over to the police in Gumaghat he said adding an FIR has been lodged in the case PTI JOP RMS RMS

Shillong Nov 29 PTI Meghalaya on Monday recorded 30 new COVID-19 cases which pushed the tally to 84444 a senior official said The toll remained unchanged at 1471 health services director Dr Aman War said Of the 30 new cases 26 were detected in East Khasi Hills two in West Garo Hills and one each in East Garo Hills and West Jaintia Hills The state currently has 301 active cases Thirty-seven people recovered from the disease during the day taking the total number of those cured to 82672 Over 1206 lakh tests have been conducted in the state till date War said A total of 1965 lakh people have been inoculated in the state thus far with more than 802 lakh of them having received both the doses he added PTI JOP RMS RMS

Shillong Oct 30 PTI Assam Rifles AR Director General Lt Gen PC Nair has urged all commanders of the force to be ever vigilant in their area of operations given the volatile environment along the countrys borders an official said here on Saturday The paramilitary force guards Indias border with Myanmar where a military coup has led to civil unrest with many people fleeing the neighbouring country and entering the northeast Chairing a conference here on Friday Lt Gen Nair asked his officers to ensure peace under all circumstances the AR spokesperson said in a statement Assam Rifles has always identified itself with the populace of North East and worked for their security and well being Nair said The director general complimented the formation and unit commanders for the work they undertake while also exhorting them to be ever vigilant in view of the volatile and dynamic environment the statement said The emphasis of the conference was on drawing lessons from past experience in various fields and improving upon these aspects for better efficiency of the force the statement added PTI JOP RMS RMS
