Agartala Jan 28 PTI Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday praised the father of Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb for his contribution towards the party as a true BJP man Hirudhan Deb the chief ministers father was one of the few flag bearers of Jana Sangh and later BJP who used to perform organizational activities to strengthen the party BJP state spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty said The Prime Minister in a tweet wrote Sh Hirudhan Deb championed the rights of BJP Karyakartas in Tripura who were being harassed since 1993 BJP-aligned farmers were denied irrigation schemes As a true BJP man he led the dissent movement against such oppressions The chief minister expressed his gratitude to the prime minister for honouring the contributions of his father who hailed from Udaipur in Gomati district and held the post of a state executive member for Jan Sangh and BJP from 1967 to 2014 The chief minister in reply to the tweet of the prime minister said Much gratitude to Hon PM Shri narendramodi Ji for honouring the selfless works of the BJP Jan Sangh karyakartas It is a matter of immense pride for me that the selfless service of my father late Hirudhan Deb Ji has gotten a place in KamalPushp Saga In a separate tweet Deb wrote I believe It is only possible in the Bharatiya Janata Party BJP organisation under the visionary leadership of Adarniya Shri Narendra Modi Ji that the son of an ordinary BJP karyakarta is serving the people of Tripura as a Chief Minister today Always grateful for this responsibility PTI JOY KK KK KK

Three-tier security in place for civic poll counting in Tripura on Sunday

Agartala Nov 27 PTI Three tier security is in place for the counting of votes for over 200 seats in the Agartala Municipal Corporation AMC and other civic bodies in Tripura where it was held on Thursday amid court cases arrests and allegations of attacks by political parties a senior police official said on Saturday The counting will be held on Sunday and apart from the scheduled security deployment Tripura State Rifles and central armed polie force have been deployed for the maintenance of law and order in areas adjoining the counting centers he said A statement issued by the Assistant Inspector General of Police law and order Subrata Chakrabarty also appealed to the people to be wary of any kind of rumours The counting of votes in connection with General Election to the Municipal and Nagar Panchayat 2021 for 6 Nagar Panchayats 7 Municipal Council and the Agartala Municipal Corporation will be conducted in 13 counting centers all over the state In this regard adequate police arrangement has been made for each counting centre For maintenance of law order during counting of votes three-tier security arrangement has been made for each counting centre by deploying CAPF as well as State Police and Tripura State Rifles a statement issued by Chakraborty said Altogether there are 334 seats in the urban local bodies including Agartala Municipal Corporation 51 wards 13 municipal councils and six nagar panchayats in the state The ruling BJP has fielded candidates in all seats in the Tripura civic elections and has already won 112 out of the total 334 seats uncontested in the Agartala Municipal Corporation and 19 urban bodies In the remaining 222 seats as many as 785 contestants are in the fray after 36 candidates withdrew their nominations The elections were fought mainly between the three parties - the BJP the TMC and CPIM TMC has demanded total countermanding of the election alleging that it was heavily rigged and reduced to a farce by the ruling BJP Opposition CPI-M has demanded countermanding of elections in five wards of AMC Both the parties alleged that police and the state election commission had remained silent spectators despite complaints of rigging by goons sheltered by BJP Meanwhile BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharya in a statement said the partys leaders held detailed discussions on the role of party karyakartas in connection with the counting and the situation after it Party karyakartas were asked to maintain discipline and to act as per the directions of the state leaders and should follow the organisational tradition after announcement of the results Bhattacharya said in a statement PTI JOY KK KK KK

Agartala Oct 22 PTI Tripura State Election CommissionSEC on Friday announced the election to 20 urban local bodies including Agartala Municipal Corporation in all the eight districts in the state on November 25 The term of office of the urban local bodies had ended on December 18 2020 but the election to them could not be conducted due to the Covid pandemic The SEC has now decided to conduct the polls to civic bodies following improvement in the situation an official release said This will be the first civic election that the ruling BJP will face since it came to power in Tripura 2018 TMC which is seeking to expand in Tripura has said that it will contest the upcoming poll in the north eastern stateDev who is overseeing the party activities in the state said a final strategy will be formulated once the elections are declaredin all the civic bodies A total 594772 voters are eligible to cast their votes in the civic poll and the number of women voters outnumber the male voters in the urban areas The number of female voters is 300377 male voters is 293979 and others 16 as per the voter list published in January 2021 Announcing the civic poll date State Election Commissioner M L Dey said that the notification of the election will be issued on October 27 and the filing of nomination will begin on that ay as per rule The submission of nomination papers will continue till November 3 and the date of scrutiny has been fixed on November 5 The last date of withdrawal of nomination is November 8 he said Dey said the model code of conduct has come into force in 18 out of the 23 sub-divisions of the state with immediate effect after the announcement of the civic body polls Polling will be held between 7 am in the morning to 4 pm in 770 polling stations and the counting will begin at 8 am on November 28 The entire process of elections is slated to end on December 4 he told reporters With the announcement of the poll the model code of conduct has come into force I hope all the political parties will comply with the rules the SEC said Dey said security arrangements will be made for smooth and peaceful conduct of the civic polls in the state In order to make the poll process transparent the whole exercise except voting will be videographed Decision on webcasting is yet to be taken and will depend on the arrangements he said There are 20 municipalities including Agartala Municipal Corporation in the state which have total 334 seats out of which eight are reserved for scheduled tribes 85 for scheduled castes and 157 for women the release said PTI JOY KK KK KK
