Ahmedabad Apr 21 PTI Gujarat reported 19 new coronavirus positive cases and one fatality on Thursday taking its infection tally to 1224214 and death toll to 10943 the state health department said The COVID-19-linked death was reported for the first time in the state in nearly a month The state had last reported such fatality on March 22 The latest death occurred in Vadodara As 12 patients were discharged during the day the number of recoveries rose to 1213173 the department said in a release With this the number of active cases in the state stood at 98 District-wise Ahmedabad reported the highest number of 10 new cases followed by Vadodara five Jamnagar two and Gir Somnath and Rajkot one case each As many as 82661 people were given anti-coronavirus doses during the day raising the total number of doses administered so far in the state to 1070 crore The neighbouring Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli Daman and DIu remains free from COVID-19 as there is not a single active case at present Gujarats COVID-19 figures are as follows Positive cases 1224214 new cases 19 death toll 10943 recoveries 1213173 active cases 98 people tested so far - figures not released PTI KA NP NP

Rajkot Jan 23 PTI Around 50 staffers of the civil hospital in Gujarats Rajkot city including doctors and nurses have tested coronavirus positive an official said Sunday Since none of them are in a serious condition they are undergoing treatment in home isolation Superintendent of Civil Hospital R S Trivedi said Healthcare staff members of the hospital who come in direct contact with the patients were tested for COVID-19 Almost 50 of them including paramedical staff nurses and doctors were found infected But the good thing is that nobody is in a serious condition and most of them are in home isolation he told reporters On Thursday Gujarat had recorded 24485 infections its highest single-day spike pushing up the states tally above the 10-lakh mark Gujarats tally of active cases has also crossed the one-lakh mark and is currently at 129 lakh with a total 244 patients being kept on ventilators as per the health departments Saturday evening release There are 7653 active cases in Rajkot district at present as per the state health departments COVID-19 dashboard The district has so far reported 69414 infection cases and 61025 recoveries with 736 patients dying so far as per the health department update PTI KA NP NP

Ahmedabad Jan 22 PTI Two buses were gutted in separate incidents of fire that took place at Rajkot and Surat in Gujarat in which no casualty was reported officials said Saturday A city bus caught fire in Rajkots Bhaktinagar locality on Saturday morning There was no passenger travelling in the bus when the blaze erupted a fire department official said As soon as the driver started the bus it caught fire He tried to douse the flames with the extinguisher kept inside the bus but could not do so Later a fire extinguisher from another bus was also used the official said By the time the fire was brought under control by a fire department team the bus was completely destroyed he said In the second incident a luxury bus caught fire at Mora village near Surat city late last night though no casualty was reported in the bus a fire department official said The bus was parked when it suddenly caught fire late last night the official said The fire was eventually doused No casualty was reported and the reason behind the fire is being ascertained the official of Adajan fire station said This comes days after a woman was charred to death on Tuesday night while her husband suffered severe burn injuries after a private luxury bus in which they were travelling caught fire in Surat city PTI KA NP NP

Ahmedabad Nov 20 PTI Five persons were killed and three others injured when the van they were travelling in was hit by a tanker near Valana village in Ahmedabad district of Gujarat early on Saturday police said The accident took place around 5 am on a road connecting Vataman to Bhavnagar they said Eight persons were travelling in the van to Khambhat in Anand district The van was being driven on the wrong side of the road when it was hit by a tanker near Valana village Four persons died on the spot while another one succumbed to injuries on way to a hospital in Khambhat The mishap also left three others injured an official of Koth police station said The impact of the collision was so severe that it took hours to retrieve the bodies from the mangled van he said The deceased included two women the official said adding that the three injured persons are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Khambhat he said PTI KA NP NP

Ahmedabad Oct 17 PTI The Statue of Unity at Kevadia in Gujarats Narmada district will remain closed for visitors between October 28 and November 1 in view of the National Unity Day celebration on October 31 to mark Sardar Vallabhbhai Patels 147th birth anniversary officials said on Sunday The 182-metre statue dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel the worlds tallest statue is a major tourist attraction The office of chief administrator of the Statue of Unity said in a note on its official website that the statue along with other attractions there will remain out of bounds for visitors from October 28 to November 1 This is being done in view of the preparations that are underway for the National Unity Day or Rashtriya Ekta Diwas to be celebrated on October 31 to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel an official said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is most likely to visit Kevadia on October 31 to mark the 146th birth anniversary of the Iron Man of India though it is yet to be officially announced he said In 2014 the government had to observe October 31 as National Unity Day to provide an opportunity to re-affirm the inherent strength and resilience of our nation to withstand the actual and potential threats to the unity integrity and security of our country The statue was inaugurated by PM Modi on October 31 2018 and he has visited the site every year since then to mark Patels birth anniversary and pay floral tributes Since then the site has added several more attractions for the visitors such as theme-based gardens jungle safari children nutrition park river rafting night tourism among others In March this year the Statue of Unity crossed the 50-lakh tourists mark in just a little more than two years of its opening PTI KA NP NP
