Mumbai Apr 21 PTI Mumbai on Thursday registered 91 new COVID-19 cases that raised the tally of infections to 1059073 an official from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation BMC said As many as 56 patients were discharged from hospitals during the day taking the count of recoveries to 1039061 while the toll stood at 19562 as no fresh casualties were reported the official said Of the latest cases 90 patients are asymptomatic and one has been hospitalised he said As many as 8428 swab samples were tested during the day taking the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted so far to 16817335 the official said The city is now left with 450 active cases and the recovery rate is at 98 per cent he said The doubling rate of infections is at 12659 days while the overall growth rate of COVID-19 cases for the period between April 14 to April 20 is 0005 per cent the official added PTI KK ARU ARU

Mumbai Apr 20 PTI Mumbai on Wednesday saw an increase in COVID-19 cases with the addition of 98 new infections that took the tally to 1058982 an official from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation BMC said The toll however remained unchanged at 19562 as no fresh fatalities were reported during the day the official said The city has been witnessing a rise in infections over the last couple of days after it recorded 83 and 34 cases on Tuesday and Monday respectively As per the bulletin issued by the civic body of the latest cases 96 patients were asymptomatic and none of the infected persons have been admitted to hospitals At least 9514 swab samples were tested in the last 24 hours taking the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted so far to 16808907 it was stated With the positivity rate at 0010 per cent and recovery rate at 98 per cent the city currently has 415 active cases the bulletin stated The count of recoveries has reached 1039005 as 73 patients were discharged from hospitals it said PTI KK ARU ARU

Mumbai Apr 19 PTI A portion of a five-storey building under renovation collapsed in Kalbadevi area of south Mumbai on Tuesday and no casualties were reported in the incident an official from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation BMC said The incident took place at a ground-plus-four storey structure at Vardhman junction Lohar Chawl area of Kalbadevi around 430 pm he said A portion of the building which was under renovation collapsed he said adding that no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident On being alerted the fire bridge reached the spot along with the police and civic staff the official said Earlier this month an elderly worker died and two others were injured when the roof of a building inside JJ Hospital premises collapsed during some construction work PTI KK ARU ARU

Mumbai Jan 28 PTI One more person on Friday succumbed to injuries sustained in a fire that erupted in a multi-storey residential building at Tardeo in south Mumbai a civic official said With the latest fatality the toll in the fire that took place on January 22 rose to nine he said Dhaval Salaskar 23 who was undergoing treatment at Byculla-based Masina Hospital was declared dead at 515 pm the official said quoting information received from doctors Earlier at least six people had died and 24 others were injured in the blaze that broke out at Sachinam Heights a ground-plus-20-storey building located opposite Bhatia Hospital at Gowalia Tank A total of 30 people were injured in the incident of which nine are dead eight are undergoing treatment with five of them in a critical condition and three others stable As many as 13 victims have been discharged the official said A 35-year-old woman who was undergoing treatment at the civic-run Kasturba Hospital succumbed to her injuries on Thursday PTI KK ARU ARU

Mumbai Nov 23 PTI Fully vaccinated passengers of the Central Railways suburban trains here can now book their single journey and season tickets on their mobile phones through the Railways Unreserved Ticketing System UTS app which has been linked to the state governments Universal Pass an official said on Tuesday The linking of UTS application and Universal Pass will enable passengers to book their tickets seamlessly without any hassle said Anil Kumar Lahoti general manager of Central Railway Anyone who has taken both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and has completed 14 days since the administration of the last dose has to take state governments Universal Pass which was issued after due verification of the vaccination status Lahoti said The linking of the two systems will provide significant relief to passengers and reduce queues at railway ticket counters An updated Android version of the UTS app was already available on Google Play Store while the IOS version is likely to be updated in Apple Store by Tuesday night he said adding that with this passengers can buy single journey and season tickets through UTS app The Central Railway Centre for Railway Information Systems CRIS and state government were working together to link the UTS app with the UPS the official said From October 30 the state government allowed citizens to travel on suburban trains by obtaining single journey tickets but passengers had to produce a universal pass for this At present passengers have to produce their universal passes at ticket counters to buy tickets During the pandemic UTS app was suspended as there was no system to verify the vaccination status of passengers Now the UTS app will be opened for public with proper vaccination verification made possible by linking it with the state government portal it was stated PTI KK ARU ARU

Mumbai Oct 28 PTI The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation BMC on Thursday announced that the Veermata Jijamata Udyan popularly known as Byculla Zoo here will be open to visitors from November 1 The civic body had shut the zoo in April amid the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic According to a release issued by the BMC the zoo will be open for visitors from 930 am to 6 pm while morning walkers can use the premises between 6 am and 830 am The zoo popularly known as Rani cha Baug is home to a large number of animals different species of exotic birds and several types of trees and plants The civic body had shut the garden and zoo on March 15 last year in light of the COVID-19 outbreak and reopened it briefly in February this year The release further stated that the ticket windows of the zoo will be shut at 4 pm instead of 530 pm and the entry will be stopped anytime if the rush increases The BMC has appealed to visitors to follow COVID-19 protocol such as wearing masks sanitising hands and maintaining social distancing in queues The luggage deposit facility has been discontinued at the zoo and visitors are not permitted to carry food items it was stated PTI KK ARU ARU
