Mumbai Mar 25 PTI Mumbai on Friday reported 38 COVID-19 cases and one death which took place after a gap of eight days taking the tally here to 1057753 and the toll to 16694 a civic official said This is the third death caused by the infection this month the earlier ones coming on March 6 and March 16 he pointed out Incidentally the city had reported 54 cases on Thursday though the addition to the tally has been below the 100-mark since March 2 this year The recovery count increased by 47 to touch 1037926 which is 98 per cent of the caseload leaving the countrys financial capital with an active tally of 248 he said Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation data showed that 11839 tests in the last 24 hours had taken the number of samples examined so far to 16550970 It also showed that the positivity rate stood at 0003 per cent the overall growth rate of cases between March 18 and 24 was 0004 per cent while the caseload doubling time was 19792 days As per a civic health bulletin 37 out of the 38 new COVID-19 patients were asymptomatic with just one requiring hospitalisation and oxygen support It said only 25 of the total 26280 hospital beds earmarked for COVID-19 treatment are currently occupied in the city The metropolis is free of sealed buildings and containment zones the bulletin added On January 7 Mumbai had reported a record 20971 cases while the highest number of deaths at 90 was recorded on May 1 last year PTI KK BNM BNM BNM

Mumbai Feb 25 PTI The civic body in Mumbai on Friday allowed all schools to resume classroom teaching from pre-primary to Standard XII as per pre-pandemic timetable from March 2 As per the circular issued by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation all schools of all streams and mediums shall start full time and in full capacity from March 2 the nod coming nearly two years after the country went into lockdown due to the COVID-19 outbreak The BMC has also permitted full time and full capacity offline classes for schools catering to special and physically challenged students an official said As per the circular the temperature of each student must be checked before entry into the premises and schools should ensure 100 per cent attendance of non-teaching staff all of whom must be fully vaccinated The circular also states that schools can give breaks and students may be permitted to have food as per pre-COVID-19 time while students suffering from comorbidities and chronic diseases as certified by health officials will need to produce parental consent Incidentally some time before the BMC circular was issued Maharashtra minister Aaditya Thackeray had tweeted after a meeting with civic officials Schools will be encouraged to organise vaccination camps for students from age 15 and up on campus with mybmc mybmcedu and doctors with the consent of parents to ensure vaccination rates and protection for students eligible for the covid vaccine Thackeray had tweeted Earlier on January 24 the BMC had allowed resumption of physical classes in schools with certain restrictions PTI KK BNM BNM BNM
Mumbai Feb 25 PTI Mumbai on Friday reported 128 COVID-19 cases the sixth day in a row when the addition to the tally was less than 200 and no fresh fatality a feat that occurred for the sixth time this month a civic official said The tally in the metropolis is 1056207 and the toll stood unchanged at 16691 while the discharge of 200 people took the recovery count to 1035626 which is 98 per cent of the caseload he said He said 88 per cent or 113 of 128 new cases detected were asymptomatic with just 15 patients needing hospitalisation and two requiring oxygen support in the last 24 hours Only 721 of the 36102 beds earmarked for COVID-19 treatment are occupied now the official said adding that the active caseload of the city stood at 1014 With 21508 samples being examined in the last 24 hours around 1000 less than the previous day the overall number of tests now stands at 16133452 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation data showed It also revealed the positivity rate was 059 per cent the caseload doubling time was 4238 and the overall growth rate of cases between February 18 and 24 stood at 002 per cent The metropolis does not have any sealed building or containment zone the civic official added Mumbai had reported a record 20971 cases on January 7 this year amid the third wave f the pandemic PTI KK BNM BNM BNM
Mumbai Jan 31 PTI Amid a row over a garden in the northern suburb of Malad being named after Mysuru ruler Tipu Sultan Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar on Monday said the signboard announcing this at the site was placed by the local MLA and that it had nothing to do with the civic body The garden was named after Tipu Sultan at a recent function presided by Congress minister and local MLA Aslam Sheikh and it had led to the BJP as well as some right-wing Hindu outfits decrying the move and organising protests at the site Speaking to reporters on Monday Pednekar said No garden had been officially named after Tipu Sultan and the signboard announcing this was installed by the local MLA with whom we are talking She also said only one-fourth of the land on which the garden was situated belonged to the Brihanmumbai Mumbai Municipal Corporation and the rest belonged to the collector The mayor also claimed the controversy over the naming was being done by some groups to destabilize the metropolis While Tipu Sultan is often hailed in history for his relentless fight against the British right-wing Hindu groups have decried that he was a bigot who treated his non-Muslim subjects and adversaries cruelly PTI KK BNM BNM BNM
Mumbai Jan 24 PTI The civic body in Mumbai on Monday said 248 of the 280 samples sent for genome testing have been detected with the Omicron variant of coronavirus an official said This was the eighth batch of samples comprising 280 from civic limits and 93 from outside that had been sent to check for the presence of Omicron he said adding that 21 samples had the Delta derivative and 11 samples were found with other variants of coronavirus As per the release of the 280 samples from BMC limits 96 or 34 per cent were of patients in the 21-40 age group 79 or 28 per cent were in the 41-60 age group 69 in the 61-80 age segment 22 in the 0-20 segment and 14 or five per cent in the 81-plus bracket Of these 13 samples were of patients in the 0-18 age bracket including two who were less than five years old Four were in the 6-12 age group and seven in the 13-18 age bracket A total of 174 out of 280 patients were fully vaccinated seven had taken the first dose and 99 were unvaccinated an official said Of the seven who had taken only one dose six had to be hospitalized including two in the Intensive Care Unit while 89 of 174 patients who were fully vaccinated had to be admitted in hospital A total of 76 of 99 unvaccinated patients had to be hospitalized 12 required oxygen and five were in the ICU he said Genome sequencing helps in understanding the difference between two variants of the same virus and makes treatment more effective the official added PTI KK BNM BNM BNM
Mumbai Dec 17 PTI The stir-hit Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation on Friday dismissed 22 staffers and issued show cause notices to 63 suspended employees officials said They said 2442 bus services were operated till 6pm during the day MSRTC employees have been on strike since October 28 demanding merger of the cash-strapped undertaking with the state government with the stir intensifying on November 9 after bus operations got paralysed in its 250 depots An MSRTC official said the overall number of dismissed employees rose to 44 while the number of those who have been given show cause notices so far stood at 355 A total of 24 employees were transferred taking the number of such staffers to 2788 The count of suspended employees increased by 51 during the day to touch 10701 So far the services of 2055 people have been terminated he said MSRTC with a fleet of 16000 buses used to ferry 65 lakh passengers per day before COVID-19 restrictions hit operations and increased losses PTI KK BNM BNM BNM
Mumbai Nov 29 PTI The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation MSRTC on Monday suspended 1088 permanent and 254 temporary employees officials said adding that it operated over 1000 buses from some 50 depots on the 33rd day of the staffers agitation The staffers have been on strike since October 28 demanding merger of the cash-strapped undertaking with the state government with the agitation intensifying from November 9 when bus operations at all its 250 depots got affected An MSRTC official on Monday said the latest round of suspensions had taken the cumulative number of suspended permanent and daily wage or temporary employees to 7585 and 1779 respectively MSRTC operated 1086 buses including 822 ordinary ones on various routes from 50 depots till Monday eveningA total of 19163 out of 92266 employees joined duty on Monday including 2549 drivers and 2250 conductorsThis is a rise from the 18375 employees who reported to work on Sunday a spokesperson for the undertaking said The stir continues despite the state government announcing a 41 per cent salary hike last week to break the impasse MSRTC has a fleet of 16000 buses and over 92000 employees and used to ferry more than 65 lakh people per day before the COVID-19 outbreak in March last year hit operations severely PTI KK BNM BNM BNM
Mumbai Nov 23 PTI The stir by Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation MSRTC workers continued for the 27th day on Tuesday though the state-run undertaking said it had managed to operate 151 buses during the day including around 60 in Sangli division where operations were at a complete standstill so far The employees of the loss making corporation have gone on strike demanding its merger with the state government which will give them better salaries and greater job security All 250 ST bus depots have been shut since November 9 though the stir started from October 28 An official said the number of staffers reporting to work amid the strike has increased to over 8000 now against an average of 7500 last week A total of 8343 out of 92266 employees reported to work today These comprised 5759 administrative employees 2060 workshop workers 330 drivers and 194 conductors an MSRTC spokesperson said on Monday Meanwhile during the day some workers agitated in front of state transport minister Anil Parabs home near Mantralaya and tried to smear the walls with black colour though it was thwarted by police PTI KK BNM BNM BNM
