Mumbai Mar 28 PTI A cow got stuck after falling into a drain near Dadar railway station in Mumbai on Monday morning and was rescued after nearly five hours a fire brigade official said The incident took place in Kabutarkhana area around 730 am when the drain lid slipped down due to the cows weight he said The cow then fell and got stuck at a depth of 8-10 feet in the drain and was unable to move out the official said After being alerted two fire brigade vehicles were rushed to the spot he said adding that civic and police personnel also reached there Initially an earth mover equipment was brought to widen the drain opening But the rescuers later used a drill machine to avoid any injury to the cow he said After about five hours of hectic efforts the drain walls were dismantled and the cow was pulled out with the help of ropes the official said PTI KK GK GK

Mumbai Jan 24 PTI One more person on Monday succumbed to injuries suffered in a fire that broke out in a multi-storey residential building at Tardeo in Mumbai raising the death toll in the incident to seven a civic official said The 38-year-old male patient who was undergoing treatment at the BYL Nair Hospital was declared dead at 7 am the official said as per information received from doctors Out of the 12 other injured people undergoing treatment in Bhatia Hospital six were critical and the remaining were stable he said adding that another injured person being treated at Masina Hospital in Byculla area was also critical Earlier six people had died and 24 others were injured in the blaze that erupted on Saturday at Sachinam Heights a ground-plus-20-storey building located opposite the Bhatia Hospital at Gowalia Tank With the death of one more victim the toll has gone up to seven and the number of injured people stands at 23 of whom seven have already been discharged while the others are undergoing treatment in different hospitals the official said PTI KK GK GK
Mumbai Sep 23 PTI The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has completed 40 per cent physical work of the Rs 12000 crore-worth coastal road project from Marine Drive to Worli including a one-km-long tunnel BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal said on Thursday The project will be completed in November 2023 he said in a statement The work completed so far includes a tunnel of one-km length and 40-feet diameter under the Malabar Hill in south Mumbai Only work on 900 metres of the tunnel is remaining now Chahal said It is the first-of-its kind under-sea tunnel project of 40-feet diameter executed in the country he claimed According to Chahal the coastal road project being executed by the civic body between Marine Drive and Worli is 27-km-long and includes 16-km-long interchanges The project also includes a 125-acre garden on the reclaimed land abutting the coastal road with an underground parking facility for 1852 cars The work is going on round-the-clock in three shifts and the project will be completed in November 2023 Chahal stated As per BMCs website the civic body has envisaged the Mumbai coastal road projectsouth MCRP along the western seafront of the city to de-congest the existing roads In the first phase this ambitious eight-lane project intends to connect Shamaldas Gandhi Marg Princess Street Flyover Marine Drive in south Mumbai to the Worli-end of the Bandra-Worli sealink comprising a combination of coastal road based on reclamation tunnels flyovers elevated roads interchanges and sea wallbreak wall it said As per the website Indias largest 1219-metre-diameter tunnel is being constructed 20 metres below the shore of the Arabian Sea and 70 metres below the Malabar Hill and has three lanes for transportation for south and north bound traffic One of the lanes is proposed to be reserved for emergency transport according to the BMC The objective of this project is to provide an alternate North-South Trunk route for the people of Mumbai which provides improved mobility to relieve the traffic congestion in Mumbai enhances environment and leads to sustainable development of much needed recreational public open spaces says the BMCs website PTI KK GK GK
