Mumbai Dec 30 PTI The new wave of the coronavirus pandemic could be worse than the earlier two waves Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar said here on Thursday while appealing people to follow the norms The Maharashtra capital on Wednesday reported 2510 COVID-19 cases a big jump compared to 283 cases on December 20 The new wave could be more terrible therefore Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself was issuing alerts to the states Pednekar told reporters here Earlier variants of the coronavirus infected mostly adults but the latest variant is also infecting children she said Hence it is necessary to be careful she added Appealing people to follow COVID-19-appropriate behavior Pednekar said she herself would be avoiding weddings and other gatherings till the Omicron crisis recedes The civic body has ordered the closing of an illumination show on Bandra Reclamation as it was attracting crowds the Mayor informed PTI KK KRK KRK KRK
Mumbai Dec 17 PTI Mumbai reported 295 new coronavirus infections and one pandemic-related fatality on Friday a civic official said The tally of COVID-19 cases in the countrys financial capital rose to 766508 and death toll reached 16363 Daily cases recorded in the city rose for the fifth straight day On Thursday Mumbai had logged 279 new cases and two deaths As many as 51266 COVID-19 tests were conducted in Mumbai during the day which raised the tally of tests to 13086030 The city is left with 1940 active COVID-19 cases as 227 recovered patients were discharged from hospitals The total of recovered patients rose to 745628 The recovery rate in the city is 97 per cent Mumbais overall growth rate of COVID-19 cases was 003 per cent during December 10 to 16 and average doubling rate of cases is 2468 days Presently Mumbai has 19 sealed buildings Buildings are sealed when five or more cases are found on the premises PTI KK KRK KRK KRK
Mumbai Nov 27 PTI Travelers from African countries where cases of the new coronavirus variant Omicron have been found should be screened Mumbai municipal commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal directed officials on Saturday Passports of international passengers should be checked at the Mumbai airport and medical tests should be conducted if a person has been to any of the African countries where the new variant has been found he instructedIf found positive for infection such a person should be institutionally quarantined Chahal said according to an official release Samples of such passengers should be sent for genome sequencing he added The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation had called a meeting of various authorities including police airport superintendents of major civic hospitals executive health officers and members of Maharashtras COVID-19 task force in the evening to discuss precautions to be taken in view of concerns over Omicron There are no direct flights to Mumbai from African countries but as a precautionary measure Chahal directed the airport administration to collect information of the last fortnights journey of all international arrivals Jumbo Covid Centers of the BMC should be re-inspected to ensure that they are functioning properly and vaccination should be accelerated he said PTI KK KRK KRK KRK
