New Delhi Apr 22 PTI The National Investigation Agency on Friday filed a charge sheet against two persons in connection with their alleged involvement in conspiracy and espionage activities with an intention to wage war against India an agency spokesperson said The charge sheet was filed before a competent court in Hyderabad against Altaf Hussen Ganchibhai alias Shakil who hails from Gujarat and Waseem a Pakistani national under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code IT Act and the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act The case pertaining to a criminal conspiracy to carry out anti-national activities by Pakistani agents was originally registered with the Andhra Pradesh police and re-registered by the NIA on December 23 last year the spokesperson said in a statementThe agents in a bid to obtain crucial and sensitive information pertaining to Defence establishments from Indian Armed Forces personnel used to engage civilians using social media platforms like Facebook WhatsApp Instagram the spokesperson saidThe NIA alleged that the probe showed that Ganchibhai on directions of his Pakistan-based handlers had clandestinely activated WhatsApp accounts by passing on OTPs received on Indian SIM numbers to his handlers in Pakistan for collectiontransmission of sensitive information pertaining to Indian Defence forces and establishments he said These SIM cards were subscribed in the name of Indian fishermen of Gujarat who were arrested by Pakistan Maritime Security Agency in 2020 when the fishermen were fishing in the high seasInvestigation established that these SIM cards were illegally routed back to India to Ganchibhai who activated seven such SIM cards on directions of his handlers in Pakistan the NIA official saidHe was arrested in this case on October 25 last yearWaseem had routed money clandestinely through online Cryptocurrency exchange platforms to Indian agents for eliciting sensitive and classified information pertaining to vital Indians Defence establishments the officials said He said Waseem currently absconding PTI SKL TIR TIR

Jammu Mar 26 PTI The National Investigation Agency NIA on Saturday filed a charge sheet in a court here against a Pakistani terrorist affiliated with the Lashkar-e-Taiba LET who was arrested during an infiltration attempt in Uri sector in September last year an official said The charge sheet was filed against Imdadullah hailing from Pakistans Punjab province under various sections of the IPC Unlawful Activities Prevention Act Explosives Act and the Foreigners Act a spokesperson of the NIA said Imdadullah who had several code names such as Ali Babar Dujana and 313 was arrested while his associate Atiq-ur-Rehman alias Qari Anas and Abu Anas was killed by the Army when they made a failed infiltration attempt from across the border in Uri sector of north Kashmirs Baramulla district on September 27 last year The spokesperson said the case was initially registered at police station Uri on September 27 and later re-registered by the NIA on October 30 2021 A huge cache of arms ammunition explosives and other incriminating material were recovered from the possession of the slain and arrested Pakistani terrorists the NIA said adding further investigation in the case was underway PTI TAS SKL SMN

Mumbai Oct 26 PTI The National Investigation Agency NIA has opposed dismissed Mumbai police officer Sachin Wazes plea seeking temporary transfer from the Taloja prison to house arrest in the Bombay High Court saying Waze being a highly influential person may abscond and tamper with prosecution witnesses if let out of the prison In an affidavit filed before the high court on Tuesday the NIA said Waze was accused of serious offences including being part of the conspiracy to kill businessman Mansukh Hiran and planting an explosives-laden vehicle near the residence of industrialist Mukesh Ambani in south Mumbai If any House Arrest custody is granted to the petitioner accused there is every likelihood that said petitioner accused will abscond from the jurisdiction of this Honble court and will tamper with the prosecution witnesses including the protected witnesses who allegedly were his associates the affidavit reads And it is not difficult for the petitioner accused to figure out who they are even though the fact is that their identity and addresses are protected since the petitioner accused is a highly influential person in the area of Mumbai it reads The affidavit was submitted in response to a plea filed by Waze earlier this month seeking that he be shifted from judicial custody to house arrest for his post-operative care following bypass surgery Waze had requested the court that he be permitted to remain under house arrest till he recovered fully The NIA however said in the affidavit that Taloja prison in Navi Mumbai had required facilities for Wazes post-operative care and that if required he could be taken to the state-run JJ Hospital in Mumbai Waze had sought parity with Elgar Parishad accused Varavara Rao who had been granted interim medical bail in February this year owing to his advanced age and worsening health The NIA said in its affidavit that Wazes case was different from that of Rao and while the latter had been granted medical bail Waze was asking for continuing judicial custody in the form of house arrest A bench of justices Nitin Jamdar and SV Kotwal on Tuesday directed Wazes counsel advocate Raunak Naik to place on record Wazes post-surgery medical papers The high court also directed the state prison authorities to submit Wazes latest medical reports It will hear the plea further next month PTI AYA NSK NSK

New Delhi Sep 17 PTI The National Investigation Agency NIA said on Friday that it has so far arrested 168 people in 37 cases of terror attacks conspiracy and funding which have been inspired by the Islamic State IS ideology in the country It said charge sheets have been filed in 31 of the cases the most recent of which was registered in June and that 27 accused have been convicted after trial Investigation by the NIA has revealed that IS Islamic State is trying to spread its tentacles in India through continuous propaganda online Gullible youths are targeted on open social media platforms such as Facebook Twitter and Instagram a spokesperson of the agency said The NIA said once a person shows interest he or she is then enticed to communicate with online handlers based abroad using encrypted social media platforms Depending on the gullibility of the person the handlers then use the person for uploading online content translation of IS texts to local language conspiracy preparation of a module collection of arms and ammunition preparation of improvised explosive devices IEDs terror funding and even attacks the spokesperson said The NIA appealed to the public to bring into its notice any such activity on the internet PTI SKL SMN
