Kohima Mar 24 PTI The Nagaland Assembly on Thursday passed the Rs 2423996 crore budget for the 2022-23 financial year by voice voteChief Minister Neiphiu Rio who also holds the finance portfolio had presented a Rs 221274 crore deficit budget for the fiscal on Tuesday With all 60 members of the House coming together to form the United Democratic Alliance UDA an opposition-less government in September 2021 to pursue an early solution to the Naga political issue NPI none of the members raised any cut motions nor was any clarification sought while passing the budgetHowever several members suggested that measures are needed to improve the states own revenue generation On the NPI minister Tongpang Ozukum said that the 60 elected representatives are the stakeholders of the issue The legislators are very serious and as concerned as the Naga negotiating groups for an early resolution to the vexed problem he said Speaker Sharingain Longkumer later adjourned the House sine die PTI NBS NN NN

Nagaland reports 87 fresh Covid-19 cases 2 more deaths

Kohima Jan 29 PTI Nagaland on Saturday logged 87 new COVID-19 cases 43 less than the previous days count with the tally rising to 34276 a health department official said The death toll increased to 715 as two more patients in Dimapur district succumbed to the disease At least 65 people recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours taking the total number of cured people to 31258 The recovery rate among coronavirus patients stood at 9119 per cent Nagaland now has 907 active cases the official said Altogether 1396 COVID patients have migrated to other states The state has conducted over 442 lakh sample tests for COVID-19 so far More than 1408 lakh vaccine doses have been administered to eligible beneficiaries in the state the official added PTI NBS NN NN

Nagaland plans to attain 100 pc literacy by 2030

Kohima Aug 31 PTI The Nagaland government has made an ambitious plan of attaining 100 per cent literacy by 2030 through strengthening anganwadi centres and early childhood education besides improving infrastructure according to a vision document of the state administrationThe current literacy rate of the North-eastern state is 7955 per centChief Minister Neiphiu Rio recently unveiled the Nagaland SDG Vision 2030 - Leaving no one behind It provides short medium and long term strategies to achieve 17 sustainable development goals SDG including quality educationThe objective of the state is to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all and eliminate gender and other disparities at all levels of education the document statedThe government seeks to focus on vocational training as wellThe document said anganwadi centres and schools will have a channel of communication which will help in improving learning outcomes while providing a seamless movement of students from those centres to primary schoolsThe state government plans to immediately give due importance to pre-primary classes which are not covered under the Right to Education Act 2009The Department of School Education has proposed to introduce early childhood education in the next 10 years where teachers holding diplomas in early education DElEd would be engaged it saidThe focus of the government will be to upgrade infrastructure in order to benefit teachers and students by setting up a state-level Human Resource Development Centre and digitisation efforts at schools - higher and technical education levelsThe vision document said that the Nagaland government has given utmost priority to education by way of establishing schools in almost all the villages and urban habitationsThe state has spent Rs 123294 crore for school education during 2018-2019 accruing for 895 per cent of the total demand for grant However there is a need for efficiency in increased expenditure for appropriate outcomes which may be seen in social indications it saidBy 2030 the government would also target towards achieving zero per cent or near zero per cent drop-out rate at school level and 100 per cent enrolment rate of children with special needs the vision document statedThe Nagaland government also has plans to strengthen higher and technical education institutions through the Directorate of Technical EducationThe focus of the government would also be to organise job fairs placements and campus interviews in collaboration with the technical education institutes to improve employment opportunities and help reduce youth unemployment ratesThe government also proposes to diversify the types of courses available at technical education institutionspolytechnics to provide students with greater choices of subjectsThis will reduce the number of students that are often compelled to travel to other states of the country in order to study certain subjects the document said PTI NBS NN NN
