Kohima Mar 31 PTI Nagaland on Thursday reported only one COVID-19 case pushing the tally to 35476 a health department official said The COVID-19 death toll remained at 758 as no new fatality was reported in the last 24 hours he said Nagaland now has 16 active COVID-19 cases while 33217 people have recovered from the disease and 1484 patients have migrated to other states the official said The COVID-19 recovery rate in the state now is 9363 per cent The northeastern state has thus far tested more than 469 lakh samples for the infection A total of 1580250 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the state till Wednesday PTI NBS RG RG

Kohima Mar 18 PTI The week-long budget session of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly NLA will commence on Saturday officials said The session will commence with the customary address of state Governor Jagdish Mukhi followed by obituary reference to the passing away of former legislators during the inter-session period and election of Deputy Speaker Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio who also holds the Finance portfolio will present the Budget 2022-23 on February 22 The session assumes significance as this will be the first budget session of the opposition-less government United Democratic Alliance UDA formed in September 2021 This is also likely to be the last budget session of the 13th Nagaland Assembly as the state assembly election is due by February-March next year The UDA held a pre-budget meeting here on Friday where it was unanimously decided that first time MLA T Yangseo Sangtam would be next Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly UDA secretary and cabinet minister Neiba Kronu told PTI here Yangseo got elected to the Assembly from Pubgro-Kiphire constituency as an Independent candidate in the by-election held in November 2022 following the demise of then sitting NPF legislator T Torechu He had been extending support to the UDA government which comprises of 21 NDPP legislators 25 NPF 12 BJP and 2 Independent MLAs Besides the routine question hour the session will also have laying of annual administrative reports of the government departments government reports and rules presentation of Assembly Committee Reports The report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India on state finances and the government activities would also be laid PTI NBS RG RG

Nagaland govt seeks info on Nagas stranded in Ukraine

Kohima Feb 27 PTI Nagaland government has sought information about any person from the state stranded in Ukraine and needs help for evacuation from the war-torn country The Home Department in an advisory issued by the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority NSDMA said the details of any persons from Nagaland who may be stranded in Ukraine and needs to be evacuated and owing to the prevailing situation there may be provided to the helpline numbers 0370-22911222291120 or through email seocnsdmagmailcom and sdmanagalandgmailcom Official sources said that till date there is no information about any such person and therefore the advisory has been issued for necessary follow-up measures Meanwhile Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton on Sunday conveyed his willingness to extend any possible help to anyone from Nagaland studying travelling or working in Ukraine who is left stranded in the war torn country or those who could have fled Ukraine and taken shelter in neighbouring countries Patton said he would coordinate with the officials of the Ministry of External Affairs and Embassies in foreign countries to bring back our brothers and sisters For this the Deputy Chief Minister has asked the parents and relatives of those who may be stranded there and needing assistance to send proper details of such persons through parents or through the office of the Naga Students Federation to him A local newspaper here Eastern Mirror on Sunday reported that one Machu Yirackchang from Poilwa village of Peren district Nagaland who is pursuing medical studies at I Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University was stranded in Ukraine He is travelling to Poland to catch the flight to India the newspaper had reported PTI NBS RG RG

Kohima Jan 30 PTI President of Indian Olympic Association IOA and also International Hockey Federation Narinder Batra has urged the Nagaland government to set up a hockey pitch in the state and has assured all support towards it Addressing the gathering during the inauguration of the Nagaland Olympic Association NOA six-storey office complex here on Saturday night Batra said the state does not have any hockey pitch and requested the government to pursue one Batra said he would approach the Indian Hockey Federation to extend all support towards popularizing the game and also training Naga youngsters The IOA president said that Nagas have the natural talent in Archery and Wrestling which need to be harnessed well In this he said the state government should take advantage of the natural talents that are available and produce more Olympians He also said IOA would request the Wrestling Federation of India to organise friendly bouts either on Kohima or Dimapur to give exposure to the wrestlers The IOA president also asked the state government to identify four young athletes two each to witness the Commonwealth and Asian games which are likely to be held in July-August This will help them get exposure to events at international platforms and share their experiences with young budding talents to promote sports in the state Batra said the establishment of an office of the State Olympic Association shows the seriousness of the Nagaland government towards promoting games and sports The NOA office complex was inaugurated by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio in the presence of Vice President IAO President Athletic Federation of India Adille Sumariwala Secretary General IAO Rajeev Mehta a host of state Cabinet ministers Founding President of NOA Lanu Toy and Arjuna Awardee and Olympian Chekrovulii Swuro On the occasion Swuro presented her Archery World Cup Gold medal won at Shanghai China in 2011 to the NOA for display PTI NBS RG RG
