New Delhi Feb 26 PTI The National Progressive Schools Conference on Saturday wrote to Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal requesting opening of schools in Delhi from Wednesday According to the letter the association of schools said children from nursery to class 8 have a huge learning gapWe are grateful for your intervention for the unconditional reopening of schools However the clause of reopening from April 1 seems to be a cause of concernChildren from nursery to class VIII have huge learning gap as we are observing them In March we could have focused our efforts to bridge that gap so that children would have been ready for the next grade in April the letter stated Teachers are also overburdened with online and offline teaching and assessment it said They are no less than frontline workers and warriors Their mental health and well-being is of utmost important for us to deliver quality education to create a happy and joyful environment in school We sincerely urge you to take necessary steps for unconditional reopening of all schools from March 2 2022 the letter stated For the first time in two years schools in the national capital will open completely in offline mode from April 1 Schools in the national capital were closed in March 2020 ahead of a nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus While schools reopened in phases whenever the COVID-19 situation permitted they have been operating in hybrid mode and students have been allowed to attend offline classes only with their parents consent PTI NIT AAR

Delhi Snatching-related PCR calls decrease while cases registered go up in 2021

New Delhi Feb 24 PTI Snatching-related PCR calls reported a drop in the national capital while the number of cases registered went up in 2021 as compared to the previous year officials said on Friday According to data shared by the Delhi Police the city made 22299 PCR calls in 2021 and 24746 calls in 2020 The number of cases registered in 2021 was 9383 as compared to 7965 in 2020 The percentage of arrested accused increased by 13 per cent In 2021 a total of 7326 people were arrested and the number was 6496 in 2020 according to the data At an annual press conference Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana said You see the decline in PCR calls and registration has gone up There is 13 per cent increase in arrests This is street crime which is affecting the common people the most On February 27 last year Simran Kaur 25 was stabbed to death while resisting a chain-snatching bid in northwest Delhis Adarsh Nagar area She was returning home from the market along with her two-year-old daughter and mother when the incident occurred around 930 pm Police had said they arrested two men in connection with the stabbing On December 16 last year a 23-year-old hospital staffer was injured after she was dragged on the road by a scooter when she caught hold of a man for snatching her mobile phone at a traffic signal in Shalimar Bagh area Though the snatchers escaped at that moment police after examining CCTV camera footage identified and apprehended one of them The man who was apprehended was riding pillion It was his jacket that the woman had grabbed and was dragged around 100 metres before she fell near a car PTI NIT AAR

New Delhi Feb 23 PTI A 30-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her husband on Wednesday in east Delhis Dallupura area police said The husband Ashok Kumar 40 is from Uttar Pradesh they said On Wednesday police received information that a man slit his wifes throat and she was lying in a pool of blood a senior police officer said Police reached the spot and inspected the scene of crime Deputy Commissioner of Police East Priyanka Kashyap said A case was registered and teams formed to nab the accused who fled after killing his wife Pooja He was apprehended police said They said Poojas sister who lives in the same building informed the police about the incident The accused was a native of UPs Kanpur district and workd as a labourer police said Police said after initial enquiry it was found that the couple often had heated arguments They had two children together and both are safe they added The accused is being brought back to Delhi and further details will be ascertained after the interrogation police added PTI NIT AAR

New Delhi Feb 23 PTI A 4-year-old girl and her father died after falling from the balcony of their house in northeast Delhis Dayalpur area police said on Wednesday The incident took place on Tuesday around 1130 pm they said The deceased have been identified as Asadullah 36 and Safia According to police Safia was playing in the balcony when she fell off Her elder sister tried to save her but she lost her balance and got stuck somewhere When their father tried to see he also fell from the balcony of the building The neighbours started screaming when the girl fell down We were inside the house when she fell We came outside and saw Asadullah was trying to check on his daughters from the balcony but we asked him to stay away However he lost his balance and fell We tried to catch him but he fell on me and I received some injuries one of the neighbours told reporters Asadullah used to work as an electrician and had his shop on the ground floor of the building police said One of his relatives said I was sitting with my children downstairs when I heard a loud noise When I came outside I saw them lying in the street PTI NIT AAR

New Delhi Nov 22 PTI A 42-year-old woman and her young son were killed on Monday when a speeding car hit them while they were crossing a road in southeast Delhis Sarita Vihar area police said According to police at 1247 pm they received information regarding an accident at Sarita Vihar opposite the Asia Pacific Mall They rushed to the spot and found an i10 Grand car that had been in an accident they said Two injured Rahela and her eight-year-old son Elamul Husain residents of Jasola village were rushed to the Apollo Hospital where they were declared brought dead a senior police officer said The woman along with her son and daughter were crossing the road when the accident occurred Her daughter escaped unhurt police said A case has been registered under sections 279 rash driving and 304A causing death by negligence of the Indian Penal Code at Sarita Vihar police station and investigation taken up the officer said During investigation they found that the accident was a result of rash and negligent driving by 26-year-old Nishkarsh Saxena He has been arrested police said Saxena was not under any influence of drugs or psychotropic substances they said The husband of the deceased works as a caretaker in a local mosque The couple had three sons and a daughter One son died on Monday and the other two had died earlier due to jaundice police added PTI NIT AAR

New Delhi Nov 21 PTI A 20-year-old civil defence employee was arrested for allegedly kidnapping and raping a teenage girl in southwest Delhis Bindapur area police said on Sunday The accused has been identified as Abhishek Kumar a resident of Uttam Nagar they said On Wednesday a case was registered on complaint of the parents of the 15-year-old girl they said A senior police officer said the victim arrived at her house on Wednesday and stated that while she was near Matiala road a man offered to drop her near her home on his motorcycle He took her to a coaching centre showed some photographs from his mobile phone and introduced himself as a policeman the officer said The accused also promised to get her a teachers job in the coaching centre Thereafter he took her to a park and raped her police said During investigation police analysed over 150 CCTV cameras installed at Matiala Jain Colony Rajapuri In one footage he was seen along with the motorcycle He was arrested on Saturday from Rajapuri area police said PTI NIT AAR

New Delhi Aug 31 PTI Flanked by his supporters Hindu Raksha Dal chief Bhupinder Tomar alias Pinki Chaudhary who was accused of raising communal slogans at a rally in Jantar Mantar here surrendered at the Mandir Marg police station on Tuesday In a video which was circulating on social media Chaudhary wearing garlands was carried by his supporters on their shoulders to the police station as they chanted Pinky Bhaiya Zindabad and Jai Shri Ram Chaudhary surrendered before the Delhi Police while his supporters kept raising slogans In another video that surfaced online on Monday Chaudhary denies all the allegations against him and claims that he will surrender before the police on Tuesday and cooperate in the investigation A senior police officer said Chaudhary was arrested at the Mandir Marg police station around 230 pm on Tuesday Later he was handed over to the Connaught Place Police Station He will be produced before the court on Wednesday The Delhi Police had registered a case after a video went viral on social media showing anti-Muslim slogans being raised during a protest at Jantar Mantar here on August 8 The Delhi Police has already arrested eight people -- Uttam Upadhyay Ashwini Upadhyay Preet Singh Deepak Singh Deepak Kumar Vinod Sharma Vinit Bajpai and Sushil Tiwari -- in connection with the case Raids were being conducted in the national capital and neighbouring states to arrest Chaudhary In the video that surfaced on Monday he said Neither I nor anyone else in my organisation did anything wrong at Jantar Mantar I respect the court and will surrender on August 31 around 12 pm at the Connaught Place Police Station It is the right of every person to go to court and I did the same All the allegations against me are false and baseless I have devoted my life towards Hinduism and Hindutva As long as I am alive I will continue to work for my religion Chaudhary said The Delhi High Court on Friday had refused to grant interim protection from arrest to Chaudhary Earlier this month a sessions court here had also dismissed Chaudharys anticipatory bail application PTI NIT AAR
