New Delhi Mar 23 PTI A 32-year-old man allegedly hanged himself to death and his daughter was also found dead in the same room in northwest Delhis Metro Vihar Phase-2 area police said on WednesdayOn Tuesday afternoon the police were informed by a person that his uncle and daughter have hanged themselvesUpon reaching the spot the police found the body of Suresh on a bed after he was pulled down by family members in the house a senior officer saidHis 10-year-old daughter was also lying dead on the same bed She did not have any injury mark or sign of strangulation She might have died before Suresh police saidFour to five years ago the girl had fallen from the second floor of the building and her treatment was going on She was also suffering from bouts of fits the senior police officer saidDue to these neurological problems Suresh had to leave his job and stayed at home for her care His wife Ram Devi worked in a vegetable market as a cleaner It is early to conclude that the father had killed his daughter before suicide police saidBodies of both have been kept in hospital mortuary for post-mortem the police added PTI NIT NIT NSD NSD

New Delhi Dec 26 PTI Over 21900 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to the inmates of three jails in the national capital so far the Delhi Prisons Department said on SundayAccording to the officials 21970 doses -- 15152 first and 6818 the second shot -- have been administered till December 25As on Saturday 10707 Tihar jail inmates were given the first dose of Covid vaccine and 4352 were given the second dose In Rohini jail 1381 inmates got the first dose and 412 the second dose of vaccine according to dataIn Mandoli jail 3064 inmates got their first and 2054 the second doseThe prisons department launched a Covid vaccination drive for inmates over 45 years of age on March 18 while the inoculation of inmates in the 18-44-age group began on May 18Officials had said over 4000 inmates were released from the three jails this yearWe started the process of releasing inmates from the second week of May Around 3800 undertrial prisoners were released on interim bail and around 840 convicts were released on emergency parole they had saidLast year around 5500 undertrial prisoners and 1184 convicts were released on interim bail and emergency parole from these jails during the coronavirus-induced lockdownAmid escalating concerns over the Omicron variant Delhi prisons authorities had said they were ramping up anti-coronavirus measures and have decided to raise awareness about vaccines among inmates and isolate those showing symptoms of influenza-like illnessAccording to the latest official order all staff members of the three Delhi prisons -- Tihar Mandoli and Rohini -- have been directed to make the jail inmates aware of the need to get vaccinated as quickly as possiblePrisons in Delhi are often very crowded making them a potential hotspot for the spread of the virus During the previous wave of coronavirus the Supreme Court had allowed jails authorities across the country to take steps to decongest prisons including by releasing inmates on paroleThe first COVID-19 case was reported in Rohini jail on May 13 last year Two Covid positive inmates of Mandoli jail -- both senior citizens -- died on June 15 and July 4 last year PTI NIT NIT NSD NSD
