Delhi Situation returning to normal in violence-hit Jahangirpuri

New Delhi Apr 25 PTI The situation in violence hit-Jahangirpuri is returning to normal as residents of the northwest Delhi locality have started venturing out of their houses amid heavy security presenceClashes broke out between two communities during a Hanuman Jayanti procession in Jahangirpuri on April 16 leaving eight police personnel and a local resident injuredAccording to police there was stone-pelting and arson during the clashes and some vehicles were also torchedOn Sunday a Tiranga Yatra was taken out by Hindu and Muslim residents of the area to give a message of peace and harmony even as the roads leading to the mosque near which the riots broke out remain closed for movementThe yatra was held in C block area -- the epicentre of the clashes -- amid a heavy security presenceMohammad Shahid who sells clothes in his shop in C block said the situation is normal but people from outside are staying away for nowThe situation is absolutely fine here Some of the gates are closed in the area due to security reasons and police personnel are sitting there The month of Ramzan is going on and people visit markets for shopping However the customers from outside the area are not coming here due to the incident which has affected our business he saidThe Delhi Police said the security measures in Jahangirpuri are being reviewed and a decision on further deployment of forces would be taken according to the prevailing situation Deputy Commissioner of Police North West Usha Rangnani said Security arrangements are being reviewed based on the prevailing situation and accordingly we would take a decision and required arrangements would be made As of now appropriate adequate and sufficient security personnel have been deployed in the area she added Drones are also being used for keeping vigil Meanwhile some of the locals are yet to come to terms with the events that unfolded on April 16 and blamed outsiders for creating troublePawan Kumar Soni who owns a sweet shop in the area said people from different communities live together in the locality and he had never seen any strife between them in the last 25 yearsI have been running this sweet shop for the last 25 years but nothing like this riots happened before We have no issues with anyone here The Tiranga Yatra was carried out successfully and the situation in the area is normal he saidLallu Kumar who lives in C block said I work in a mobile shop owned by a Muslim and I have never faced any issue The shop is on the main road which is closed and our business is getting affected We have been living here peacefully and nothing like this riot happened before Some outsiders came here on April 16 to disturb law and order Kumar addedShop owner Mohammad Sajjad said the locals were facing difficulties in commuting as some of the gates leading to the main roads have been shutAlternate routes are the only option he added PTI NIT RHL

New Delhi Apr 19 PTI Heavy deployment of security personnel in violence-hit Jahangirpuri in northwest Delhi will continue till the time normalcy returns officials said on TuesdayClashes broke out between two communities during a Hanuman Jayanti procession in Jahangirpuri on Saturday in which eight police personnel and a local resident got injuredAccording to police there was stone-pelting and arson during the clashes and some vehicles were also torchedOn Monday Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana had said that the presence of police personnel in sensitive areas including Jahangirpuri will continue till the situation becomes normal Speaking to a television news channel Asthana had said We have deployed adequate force not only in Jahangirpuri but in other areas also We will use technology for surveillance and are monitoring the situation to make sure that no untoward incident occurs in the future Meanwhile the road in front of the mosque where the procession was allegedly attacked has been shut and the entire area cordoned off with barricades by policePolice have also pitched tents near the barricadesOver 500 police personnel and six companies of additional force have been deployed in the area round the clock A total of 80 tear gas gun parties and water cannons have been deployed Drones are also being used in the sensitive areas for rooftop surveillance police said All senior officers have been instructed to be at the spot to avoid any untoward incident said On Monday a peace march was organised by police along with the members of Aman Committee in Jahangirpuri area The committee appealed to the people of the area to maintain peace and harmony not to spread and trust rumours or misinformation and to report mischievous activities police said PTI NIT RHL

New Delhi Feb 25 PTI A 25-year-old member of a Mewat-based gang of robbers was arrested from south Delhis Malviya Nagar area police said on Friday Yunus alias Badri is a resident of Mewat district in Haryana they said Police received a tip-off that he would be coming near Shivaji Park Bus Stand on Press Enclave Road on Thursday evening and a trap was laid a senior police officer said Yunus was cornered and asked to surrender but he took out a pistol and fired at the police team He was nabbed after a brief scuffle Deputy Commissioner of Police Special Cell Jasmeet Singh said A semi-automatic pistol was recovered from him they said He disclosed that on the intervening night of June 5 and 6 last year he and his seven associates had stolen some cows from Delhi and were fleeing in a truck police said As police gave chase the gang members pelted stones and glass bottles at the police vehicle in a bid to escape However as four more police cars joined the chase the accused started throwing cattle from the truck and managed to flee they said The gang members would rob cars and mini-trucks at gun point and use the vehicles for committing armed dacoity on highways in Delhi-NCR and adjoining areas they said Yunus was arrested in nine criminal cases including attack on police extortion attempt to murder and cow slaughter among others registered in Delhi Haryana and Rajasthan He was absconding after jumping bail police added PTI NIT RHL

New Delhi Jan 22 PTI A 57-year-old man allegedly killed his wife over selling of their flat in south Delhis Saket area police said on Saturday The incident took place on Friday and a PCR call regarding it was received at the Saket Police Station at around 7 pm they saidShashi Lata Pandey 52 was found lying on the floor inside the bedroom of her first-floor house with no visible injury on her body police saidAccording to police the call was made by Kapil Pandey 42 the son of the elder brother of accused Chander Mohan Pandey He resides on the ground floor of the same building with his familyHe told police that at around 6 pm he got a phone call from one of his aunts who lives in Indirapuram Ghaziabad asking him to go to the first floor of the house as Chander Mohan Pandey and his wife were having a quarrelShe also asked her son to reach there police saidAs Kapil Pandey reached the flat and knocked on the door his uncle opened the door His cloathes were soaked in blood and there was a deep cut on his left side of the neck Deputy Commissioner of Police south Benita Mary Jaiker said The accused then asked him to call police saying Its all overKapil Pandey called an ambulance and in the meantime his cousin too reached there from Okhla after receiving a call from his mother the DCP said A doctor declared the woman dead while Chander Mohan Pandey was shifted to Max Hospital and is undergoing treatmentHis statement could not be recorded as he was not fit and being shifted to the ICU Jaiker said The crime team found a blood-stained kitchen knife in the drawing room During enquiry Shivam the son of the deceased said there were some issues between his parents regarding the house in which they lived His father wanted to sell it but mother wanted to stay police said Chander Mohan Pandey used to work in the front office of a hotel in Connaught Place and was under depression due to being unemployed for the last two years they said A case under section 302 murder of the Indian Penal Code has been registered and further investigation is going on police added PTI NIT RHL
