Ahmedabad Feb 24 PTI Gujarat reported 293 new coronavirus positive cases and eight deaths on Thursday which took its infection tally to 1221874 and fatality count to 10919 the health department said The number of active cases in the state now stands at 2942 Of these 34 are on ventilator support while the remaining ones are stable it said in a release A total of 729 patients recovered in the last 24 hours taking the tally of such persons to 1208013 As many as 1027 crore anti-coronavirus vaccine doses have been administered to the eligible population so far in the state of which 115 lakh doses were given during the day No new cases of COVID-19 were registered in the adjoining Union Territory of Dadra Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu in the last 24 hours an official release said Of the total 11408 cases reported in the union territory so far three cases are active While four patients have died 11401 others have recovered said a release by the UT administration Gujarats COVID-19 figures are as follows Positive cases 1221874 new cases 293 death toll 10919 recoveries 1208013 active cases 2942 and people tested so far - figures not released PTI PJT NP NP

Ahmedabad Jan 19 PTI The Economic Offences Wing EOW of the Ahmedabad city crime branch has arrested a brother-sister duo for allegedly duping several people of Rs 292 crore through ponzi schemes officials said on Wednesday Although the mastermind of the racket Mahesh Bhadra is yet to be nabbed the crime branch has arrested his son Chirag Bhadra 29 and daughter Mamata Bhadra 24 who lived in an apartment in Naroda area of Ahmedabad The crime branch had recently learnt that Mahesh Bhadra was collecting money from people by floating two investment schemes under the name Chirag Mitra Mandal under which good returns were promised The trio was operating from two offices one in Behrampura and another in Nikol area of the city In the first scheme which was floated in September 2018 people were required to deposit 32 monthly instalments of Rs 2000 each Bhadra had promised to pay Rs 15 lakh prize money to the winner of the lucky draw to be conducted in the first month and the prize money would increase by Rs 50000 with the passing of each subsequent month an official release said The Bhadras even promised to give 100 gram gold bars to the runners-up every month For those who cannot win a single lucky draw in 32 months they had promised to pay Rs 70000 following the completion of the scheme after 32 months it said In another scheme floated in March 2019 interested persons were asked to deposit Rs 1 lakh advance to be able to take part in a monthly lucky draw which offered Rs 2 lakh prize money for the winner the release said For the first scheme the trio collected Rs 27810000 of which they paid Rs 2059 lakh towards the prize money and kept Rs 25751000 with themselves Of the total Rs 60 lakh collected in the second scheme the trio kept Rs 35 lakh with themselves and paid the remaining to the members In all the scamsters made Rs 292 crore by duping the investors and the commission agents Based on a complaint given by a victim the crime branch held the duo on Tuesday and obtained their remand from the court the release said PTI PJT NP NP

Ahmedabad Nov 24 PTI Gujarats Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation AMC has formed 100 teams to ensure that its no vaccine-no entry rule is being implemented in the city to prohibit those people who have not taken anti-coronavirus vaccine doses so far from visiting public places like malls and restaurants an official said on Wednesday The civic body launched the drive on Tuesday evening to identify and warn unvaccinated people he said Out of the 3000 people that these teams checked inside several malls hotels and restaurants on day one they caught 28 people who were yet to get either the second dose or both the doses he added The drive was launched across the city by the Solid Waste Management SWM department of the corporation from Tuesday evening and will continue in the coming days to ensure that eligible people take COVID-19 vaccine doses said H J Solanki director of the SWM department Last month the AMC had asked the management of malls commercial complexes hotels and restaurants to restrict the entry of those who have not taken the anti-coronavirus vaccine doses The civic body had ordered that people above 18 years of age who have not taken their second or even the first dose must not be allowed to enter such private establishments In order to check if this rule is being followed the AMC has formed 100 teams for all the seven zones of the city and launched a drive from Tuesday evening he said adding that these teams visited nearly 180 establishments such as malls hotels and restaurants in the city from Tuesday evening and caught 28 persons who had entered these places without taking either both the doses or the second dose said Solanki We warned these 28 people and asked them to take their doses at the earliest In all our teams checked nearly 3000 persons inside these malls hotels and restaurants yesterday Our drive will continue in the coming days Solanki said A top health official of the AMC had on Tuesday admitted that at least four lakh residents of Ahmedabad city have not taken the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine despite being eligible for the same To ensure 100 per cent vaccination the AMC has already launched a door-to-door survey to trace those people who have not taken the doses the civic bodys medical officer of health Dr Bhavin Solanki had said As per an official release the AMC has administered 7727 lakh doses so far including 4743 lakh first and 2983 lakh second jabs PTI PJT NP NP

Ahmedabad Nov 18 PTI Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Thursday flagged off Atmanirbhar Gram Yatra a three-day-long exercise wherein specially-designed vehicles will move in villages across the state to spread awareness about various government schemes and issues concerning people such as cleanliness The flag-off event was held at Mahemdavad town of Kheda district Speaking on the occasion Patel said his government is committed to making Gujarat atmanirbhar self-reliant through overall development of villages The aim of this three-day long Atmanirbhar Gram Yatra being organised as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is to bring pro-people schemes at the doorstep of the needy people and to bring solution to various issues concerning rural folks a state government release quoted him as saying During the event Patel launched various projects worth Rs 5339 crore for Kheda district and also distributed financial assistance and loans under various government schemes to over 3400 locals it said The yatra would travel on 993 routes in all the 33 districts of the state between November 18 and 20 the release said adding that it would cover nearly 1000 district panchayat seats During this three-day yatra nearly 19600 projects worth Rs 44189 crore will be inaugurated while work will be commenced for nearly 23000 development projects worth Rs 96382 crore Around 192 lakh beneficiaries will be given assistance worth Rs 16755 crore under various schemes it said On the last day as many as 8071 beneficiaries will be allotted houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna Gramin it added Rural Development Minister Brijesh Merja said villagers will be made aware about schemes and other initiatives through films pamphlets exhibitions and camps during these three days To spread awareness among the masses cleanliness drives will be conducted in anganwadis post offices and health centres in villages during this drive Villagers will be made aware about the benefits of having toilets and ways to keep the villages open defecation free the release said PTI PJT NP NP
