Heroin worth Rs 1300 crore seized from container near Kandla port in Gujarat

Ahmedabad Apr 21 PTI In a joint operation the Gujarat Anti Terrorist Squad ATS and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence DRI on Thursday seized around 260 kgs of heroin worth Rs 1300 crore after conducting a raid at a container station near Kandla port in Kutch district of the state an ATS official said The development comes months after the seizure of 2988 kilograms of heroin worth Rs 21000 crore from two containers at Mundra port in the state in September last year Based on a tip-off received by the ATS officials of this agency along with those from the DRI raided a container station near Kandla port and found 260 kg of heroin which is sold at Rs 5 crore per kilogram in the international market hidden inside a container kept there the senior official said seeking anonymity The ATS and the DRI have so far recovered 260 kg heroin worth Rs 1300 crore in the international market from the container that had reached Kandla port from some other country the official added PTI PJT PD NP NP

Ahmedabad Feb 18 PTI A special court here on Friday awarded death sentence to 38 convicts in the 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts case which had claimed 56 lives and left over 200 injured Special court judge A R Patel also sentenced 11 other convicts in the case to life imprisonment till their death On February 8 the court had convicted 49 accused and acquitted 28 others in the case As many as 20 explosions had ripped through the city on July 26 2008 The court had concluded the trial against 77 accused in September last year Out of the 78 accused on trial one had turned approver PTI PJT PD NP NP

Ahmedabad Oct 28 PTI Union Minister of Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju on Thursday said the appointment of judges to various high courts and the Supreme Court picked up pace due to the harmonious relationship between the government and the judiciary Talking to reporters at a law institute here Rijiju expressed confidence that a record number of judges will be appointed in different High Courts by the end of this year We have completed the appointment of as many as 101 judges to the high courts by October 25 A record number of judges will be in high courts by the end of this year Nine judges were also appointed to the Supreme Court recently Rijiju told reporters after his speech on the subject of free legal aid at L J School of Law in Sarkhej area These appointments are the symbol of harmony between the government and judiciary he said Without this there is a possibility of delay in appointments As I mentioned in my speech inside it is the harmonious relationship which brings speed in the process of appointment of judges the minister added During his address to the law students and dignitaries Rijiju said his primary responsibility as Indias law minister was to ensure a harmonious relationship between judiciary executive and the legislature The MP from Arunachal Pradesh informed the audience that Prime Minister Narendra Modi salutes the Constitution of India Our PM salutes the Constitution of India The government is committed to the Constitution of India The country will thrive if the provisions of the Constitution are followed in letter and spirit We all are duty-bound to do that Providing legal aid is our duty as per the Constitution We have to carry forward this duty honestly Rijiju said When we were in opposition before 2014 we used to wonder and also complain as opposition MPs why the government at that time was not doing things which it was supposed to do because there were many unresolved issues After Modiji became the PM each citizen of this country is getting what he is entitled for And efforts are always on if someone is left behind the minister said in his address PTI PJT PD NP NP
