31 new coronavirus cases in Telangana

Hyderabad Mar 31 PTI Telangana on Thursday recorded just 31 new COVID-19 cases taking the total caseload to 791284 No fresh fatality occurred due to the infectious disease and the death toll continued to be 4111 A health department bulletin said 73 people recuperated from the infection and the cumulative number of recoveries till date was 786753 The recovery rate stood at 9942 per cent Hyderabad reported the highest number of cases with just 23 The bulletin said 18244 samples were tested in the state on Thursday The number of active cases was 420 it said The case fatality rate in the state was 051 per cent State Director of Public Health G Srinivasa Rao who addressed a press conference said the COVID situation is fully under control in the state with only 30-40 cases being reported daily Out of the total 33 districts over 20 districts are witnessing zero cases while six-seven districts reported only one or two cases he said There is a possibility of the state recording zero cases in future the Director added However the threat of COVID-19 has not fully gone and the citizens should follow COVID-appropriate behaviour though no major restrictions are in place he said PTI SJR SJR HDA HDA

Telangana Rats bite patient in govt hospital

Hyderabad Mar 31 PTI In a shocking incident rats allegedly bit a patient at a government hospital in Warangal district of Telangana on Thursday and the state government transferred the hospital superintendent among other measures following the incident The patient was admitted to the state-run MGM hospital in Warangal in a critical condition four days ago after being treated at a private hospital a hospital official said The patient diagnosed with multi-organ failure has been unconscious since then He has been put on artificial ventilation and was under treatment by physicians the official added The patients attendant complained in the early hours of Thursday that he observed bleeding in the ankles and heels of the patient The attendant was asleep when the alleged incident happened Though the patients attendant did not see rats a rat bite is suspected the official said A report has been sent to the higher officials after a preliminary investigation he said The presence of rats could be due to leftover food being thrown around in the hospital premises in spite of requests to not do so and an old drainage system among others he said The sanitation agency has been issued a show-cause notice he added State Health Minister T Harish Rao sought full details on the alleged incident and directed that the patient be taken care of with good treatment an official release said Taking a serious note of the incident the government transferred the hospital superintendent and suspended two doctors for alleged dereliction of duty it said PTI SJR SJR HDA HDA
