Man suffering from rare neurological disorder gets vision restored at Delhi hospital

New Delhi Apr 25 PTI A patient from Nepal suffering from a rare neurological disorder that would cause his eye to bulge out with every heartbeat got his vision restored following a surgery at a private facility here a statement said on MondayThe patient had been struggling with redness and swelling in his right eye which was causing blurred vision the statement from Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals here said The patient recommended for MRI and referred to the Neurosciences department of the hospital in New DelhiUnder the consultation of Dr PN Renjen Senior Consultant Neurology at the hospital the patient was diagnosed with a rare neurological condition that was impacting the eye it saidOn admission the patient reported vision blurring pulsatile proptosis with every heartbeat the eye would bulge out and difficulty in conducting his day to day activities He underwent a cerebral angiogram for better characterization of the condition the statement saidBased on the diagnosis by experts the patient was found to have suffered from indirect CCF which is also known as cavernous dural arteriovenous fistula it is the abnormal communication between the cavernous sinus and the dural arteries from the internal carotid artery and external carotid artery which is an extremely rare neurological condition having a difficult course of treatment it added Dr Harsh Rastogi senior consultant Neuro Intervention Radiologist at Apollo Hospital said In this patients case his arterial blood was mixing with venous blood and as a reason his eye was popping out with every heartbeat For resolving the same we conducted a surgery to disconnect the short-circuiting of the blood leading to the complete resolution of the red-eye The hospital said their doctors could help the patient in restoring his visual activities in just five days from his admission to the completion of the surgery The complexity of this case was to diagnose the right condition and provide aid We are glad that the patients post-operative recovery has been uneventful and he is back to his home contented and satisfied read the statement PTI SLB TDS TDS

New Delhi Apr 23 PTI Delhi on Saturday reported 1094 fresh COVID-19 infections highest since February 10 and two deaths due to the disease as the positivity rate rose to 482 per cent according to the health department The national capital had recorded 1104 fresh COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 209 per cent on February 10 while 12people had succumbed to the infectionA total of 22614 Covid tests were conducted in the city a day ago the data by the department showed The COVID-19 infection tally in the national capital now stands at 1873793 and the death toll at 26166 Delhi had logged 1042 Covid cases with a positivity rate of 464 per cent and two fatalities due to the infection on Friday On Thursday the city reported 965 COVID-19 cases and a single fatality with a positivity rate of 471 per cent With the national capital witnessing a spurt in COVID-19 cases in the past few days the number of active cases of the disease in the city has now increased to 3705 from 601 on April 11 However the hospitalisation rate has so far been low accounting for less than 3 per cent of the total active cases according to the data There are 79 COVID-19 patients admitted to hospitals in Delhi at present while 2532 are recuperating in home-isolation Of the 9489 beds available for Covid patients in various hospitals just 101 106 per cent are occupied the data said In the wake of rising cases the Delhi government on Friday issued an order directing authorities to impose a fine of Rs 500 on people not wearing masks at public places The fine will not apply to people travelling together in private four-wheelers it said The government had lifted the fine for not wearing masks on April 12 because of a decline in the number of daily cases The decision to bring back the mask mandate at public places and impose the fine on violators came at a meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority DDMA which devises Covid management policies for the national capital The city health department said that from Thursday Delhi has started providing free COVID-19 precautionary doses to beneficiaries in the 18-59 age group at government vaccination centres Delhi has also started genome sequencing of samples of all Covid-infected people to ascertain if a new variant such as the XE has spread in the city PTI SLB SRY

New Delhi Mar 26 PTI The University Grants Commission UGC has written to vice-chancellors of all central universities and colleges to use Common University Entrance Test CUET scores to admit students in undergraduate programmes UGC chairman M Jagadesh Kumar had said on Monday that CUET scores and not class 12 scores will be mandatory for admission to 45 central universities Central universities can fix their minimum eligibility criteria Today we have written to the VCs Directors and Principals of all Universities and Colleges to use CUET scores for admissions in their UG programs because with CUET in place there is no need for students to worry about writing multiple entrance tests Kumar tweeted on Sunday The state universities private universities and deemed-to-be universities can also use CUET scores for undergraduate and postgraduate admissions if they want Kumar had said on Monday The application process for the CUET for undergraduate courses in central universities will commence from April 2 the National Testing Agency has announced In a public notice issued on Saturday the agency said that the CUET will provide a single-window opportunity to students seeking admission in any central university across the country The CUET UG -2022 will be conducted in a Computer-Based Test CBT Mode it said PTI SLB VN VN

New Delhi Mar 25 PTI The Delhi government which makes the highest budgetary allocation for the education sector among states and union territories rolled out various initiatives such as Deshbhakti Curriculum and the establishment of Delhi Board of School Education according to the Economic Survey 2021-22 The per student per annum expenditure incurred by the government declined to Rs 63556 in 2020-21 from Rs 66593 it said According to the economic survey the city has a total of 1231 government and government-aided schools -- 2173 per cent of the total number of schools The share of enrolment in government and government-aided schools is 3936 per cent of the total admissions in Delhi in 2020-21 The survey also stated that the share of enrolment in private schools at primary and middle level had increased significantly from 3107 per cent in 2014-15 to 4672 per cent in 2019-20 However it came down to 4391 per cent in 2020-21 Similarly the share of enrolment in private schools at secondary and senior secondary level had also increased from 2908 per cent in 2014-15 to 3190 per cent in 2019-20 but declined to 2994 per cent in 2020-21 According to the State Budget Analysis Report of RBI the Government of Delhi had the highest budgetary allocation of 228 per cent in the education sector among all states in 2021-22 The total expenditure on education has increased from Rs 6555 crore in 2014-15 to Rs 15707 crore in 2020-21 The survey also highlighted that the Delhi Board of School Education DBSE was launched in March 2021 and it entered into a partnership with International Baccalaureate IB to inculcate the cutting edge pedagogy and assessments in the schools of Delhi The board started functioning with 30 schools of the Delhi government In the next few years all schools of the Delhi government and willing private schools may be affiliated to DBSE it said On September 28 last year Deshbhakti Curriculum was launched across all Delhi government schools with the aim of making students true patriots it said The government also started a new scheme of providing grants to academicians and academic administrators for the purchase of books journals and e-books etc during2021-22 for enriching and updating their knowledge for improving the educational standard in schools in Delhi it said The economic survey was presented in the Assembly on Friday by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia PTI SLB SMN SMN SMN
