New Delhi Jan 30 PTI Delhi on Sunday logged 3674 fresh COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 637 per cent while 30 more people succumbed to the viral disease according to data shared by the city health departmentWith this the national capitals caseload increased to 1827489 and the death toll climbed to 25827 the bulletin statedA total of 57686 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the city a day ago it saidThe number of daily cases in Delhi has been on the decline after touching the record high of 28867 on January 13 The city had recorded a positivity rate of 306 per cent on January 14 the highest during the ongoing wave of the pandemicIt took just 10 days for daily cases to drop below 10000On Saturday Delhi recorded 4483 COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 741 per cent and 28 deathsOn Friday 4044 cases with a positivity rate of 860 per cent and 25 deaths were recorded The city logged 4291 cases with a positivity rate of 956 per cent and 34 deaths on ThursdayThe Delhi Disaster Management Authority on Thursday decided to lift the weekend curfew and the odd-even system of opening shops selling non-essential items besides allowing restaurants bars and theatres to reopen at 50 per cent capacity given the improving COVID-19 situationThe number of COVID-19 patients under home isolation stood at 16165 on Sunday down from 18536 on Saturday There are 38853 containment zones in the city the bulletin saidThere are 15428 beds for COVID-19 patients in Delhi hospitals and 1567 1016 per cent of them are occupied A total of 1772 patients are in hospitals the health departments bulletin on Saturday stated PTI SLB DIV DIV
New Delhi Jan 27 PTI A cow protection and research centre set up at Delhi Universitys Hansraj College has drawn the ire of students who claim that it has been set up at a site reserved for a womens hostelCollege principal Rama Sharma however said architects found the site unsuitable for building a hostel as it is a setback areaThe Students Federation of India SFI unit of Hansraj College alleged that a gaushala cow shelter dubbed as Swami Dayanand Cow-Protection and Research Centre has been constructed at the site reserved for the womens hostelAs colleges shut down because of the pandemic our college administration demanded full fees even though most of our families were suffering economic hardships Now imagine our surprise when we learn that while the campus has been shut the college has finished the construction of a full-fledged gaushala without any warning or discussion with the student community the SFI allegedIt said students will launch a vigorous campaign against this move It also demanded that the gaushala be pulled down and the construction of the long-awaited womens hostel be startedSharma said architects had examined the site in question and informed the college that a hostel could not be built thereArchitects had seen the site and told us that it is a setback area and a hostel cannot be constructed there The womens hostel is my dream project and architects will identify a suitable place for it she saidWe are getting a master plan of the entire college drawn up by professional architects since we want to have more classrooms and a hostel that can accommodate 100 women students she addedSharma also denied the centre was a gaushalaThere is only one cow at the centre to enable students to carry out research and it is not a gaushala she saidWe were thinking of setting up a gobar gas plant before Covid and this has been done as an experiment she addedThe principal said theirs is a DAV trust college and a havan is held every month on the campus PTI SLB DIV DIV
New Delhi Nov 29 PTI Ahead of the online open book exams OBE for all undergraduate and postgraduate programmes Delhi University on Monday issued guidelines asking students not to use unfair means and to ensure that they have documentary proof in case there is a delay in uploading answer sheetsAccording to the guidelines students are supposed to submit their scripts on the OBE portal onlyAll the students are advised not to use any unfair means while writing the exam They must be very careful in writing exams a system is in place to detect copyinguse of unfair means in the examination the guidelines statedDuring the OBE in June over 350 students were caught using unfair means and as a result their paper or entire semester was cancelled they saidIf submission of scripts on the portal gets delayed beyond one hour students can use an additional one hour to upload the scripts on the OBE portal that is the 5th hour but in that case students have to keep the documentary evidences 4-5 snapshots of the delay in uploading they saidIn other words students will have three hours for writing answers plus one hour for downloading the question paper and uploading scripts and one hour for delayed submissionThe guidelines stated that results of answer scripts submitted by email may get delayed due to the verification process as had happened during the OBE in December March and JunePartially submitted answers by email would not be accepted Submission by both email and on the portal will not be accepted they saidDU will hold third fifth and seventh semester examinations for all its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes from Tuesday PTI SLB DIV DIV
