New Delhi Apr 25 PTI The Students Federation of India SFI staged a protest against the Ambedkar University AUD administration here on Monday for allegedly disrupting its peace march last weekIn a statement the SFI said the march to the vice-chancellors office was organised to demand to talk to her about the administrations actionsRepresentatives of the university administration told the members of the Left-affiliated students body that the VC was out of station due to official engagementsWe unconditionally condemn the irresponsible behaviour of the AUD administration They are very conveniently unavailable whenever the students demand any form of justice for their own university The registrar and the proctor will be held responsible for their actions and our struggle will continue till that happens said Anil the president of the SFI AUD Kashmere Gate unitFollowing the protest staged by the SFI on Monday the VC office has promised to meet the students by ThursdayThe SFI and other student organisations have decided that the issue will be escalated to the chief ministers office if it is not resolved by Thursday a member of the Left-affiliated students body saidOn disrupting the peace march last week the university in a statement had said it respects the right of the students over their campus and is also not against a peace or protest marchHowever there were reports that outsiders may be present in the march and cause disturbance in the university and also interrupt classes During the march it was observed that outsiders were present on the campus and were engaged in sloganeering Therefore as a preventive measure the sloganeering and the march had to be discontinued The present circumstances do not warrant that the university takes any risk the statement had said PTI SLB RC
New Delhi Apr 22 PTI Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia distributed laptops and other learning aids on Friday to over 5000 children with special needs studying in schools run by the city government according to an official statementThe initiative was carried out under the Delhi governments Talent Promotion Policy through which children with special needs are provided support in the form of suitable aids equipment and learning materials The scheme covers specially-abled children under 21 categories and helps them enhance their learning capabilities and productivity the statement saidTo facilitate the children with special needs CWSN studying in Delhi government schools Sisodia distributed laptops tablet computers sports kits and teaching aids to 5322 children of Classes 8 to 12Children with special needs are determined to learn but they often face challenges in different aspects of life which hinders their development and restricts them from participating at the community level The Talent Promotion Scheme is a small step by the Arvind Kejriwal government to provide support to the special children in our schools and help them enhance their productivity and efficiency Sisodia who also holds the education portfolio in the Aam Aadmi Party AAP government saidHe added that this effort will surely help them lead a better lifeSisodia said these special children are trying their best to learn and it is the governments duty to provide every possible support to themThey must not feel left out at any cost It is the vision of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal that if nature has provided less resources and opportunities to any person it is the governments duty to provide them an equal platform and support them in every given need We are just following his vision he said Along with the distribution of learning aids to the specially-abled children a special exhibition was also organised that showcased the work of these children studying in Delhi government schools under skill areas like art craft business blasters pre-vocational and vocational PTI SLB RC

New Delhi Jan 19 PTI The number of COVID-19 patients admitted to Delhi hospitals in January so far is higher than the number of those discharged according to government dataAn analysis of the data shows on an average 395 Covid patients were admitted to hospitals on a daily basis between January 1 and January 17 while 243 patients were discharged daily in the periodA total of 4134 patients were discharged from the city hospitals in the period as against 6707 patients who were admitted to these facilitiesThe data also shows that the number of admissions was more than double the number of discharges between January 1 and January 7On the first day of the month there were 70 admissions as against 28 discharges The next day there were 75 admissions while the number of patients discharged was 32On January 3 the number of discharges recorded was 32 but that of admissions rose to 140The number of admissions on January 4 5 6 and 7 stood at 222 340 385 and 456 while the corresponding figure for discharges on those days was 77 71 104 and 161The hospital admissions crossed the 100 mark on January 3 and breached the 200 mark the next day It crossed the 300 mark on January 5 and the 400 mark two days later It breached the 500 mark on January 10In the said period Delhi recorded the highest number of 544 hospital admissions on January 12 and the lowest on January 1 at 70The hospital admissions saw a marginal decline for two consecutive days after January 12 when 515 admissions each were recordedThe figure rose slightly to 526 on January 15 and then declined to 503 on January 16 and further to 451 on January 17Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain had last week said the hospital admissions had stabilised which indicated that the third wave of the pandemic had plateauedWe have observed that the number of hospital admissions has stabilised in the last four to five daysand 85 per cent of the beds are vacant he had told reportersPlateauing of hospital admissions is an indication that the wave has peaked We may see a decline in the number of cases in two to three days Jain had saidThe national capital has witnessed a decline in the number of fresh Covid cases over the last few daysDelhi logged 11684 fresh Covid cases and 38 more deaths due to the disease on Tuesday while the positivity rate declined to 2247 per cent The number of cases reported on Tuesday was 672 per cent lower than that of Mondays The city had reported 12527 new Covid cases and 24 deaths due to the disease on Monday and the positivity rate was 2799 per centThe national capital had reported 28867 Covid cases last Thursday the sharpest single-day spike here since the outbreak of the pandemic Delhis previous biggest daily jump of 28395 coronavirus cases was recorded on April 20 last year PTI SLB RC

New Delhi Nov 27 PTI Over 2500 students who have scored between 90 per cent and 100 per cent marks in the Class 12 board exams have applied to the Delhi Universitys DU School of Open Learning SOL since the admission process commenced on October 22 according to official dataOf them 429 have secured between 95 per cent and 100 per cent marks with the highest number of applicants being for BCom HonoursAccording to data shared by the SOL 65000 students have secured admission by paying fees while it has received nearly 13 lakh applications till now The last date for submitting applications is December 15 The maximum number of students who have applied for admissions have scored above 65 per cent marks while there are a few who have scored below 60 per cent marksThe data shows that the number of applicants who have scored above 90 per cent marks in their board exams is 142 for BA Honours English 305 for Political Science Honours 618 for BA programme 567 for BCom and 954 for BCom HonoursNineteen students who have secured above 95 per cent marks in their Class 12 exams have applied for admission to BA Honours English 41 for Political Science Honours 56 for BA programme 135 for BCom and 178 for BCom HonoursThe highest scorers have secured 972 per cent marks in BA Honours English 984 per cent in Political Science Honours 982 per cent in BA programme 99 per cent in BCom and 992 per cent in BCom HonoursThe SOL also follows the choice-based credit system like regular colleges Students have the option of migrating to a regular college from the SOL and vice versa said Uma Shankar Pandey officiating principal SOLThis year the SOL has also launched a chatbot to answer students queries during office hours he added PTI SLB RC
