Pune Mar 30 PTI A Sukhoi Su-30MKI aircraft suffered a tyre burst after landing at the Pune airport on Wednesday afternoon which led to a blockage of the runway for some time defence authorities said The Pune international airport is a civil enclave operating from the Indian Air Force IAF station of Lohegaon which is used to train IAF pilots It is a base for the IAFs fronline Sukhoi aircraft A SU30 MKI aircraft had a tyre burst on landing at Pune airport leading to blockage of runway The IAF personnel cleared the aircraft in record time leading to minimum disruption of civil traffic in the afternoon of March 30 said a statement from defence Further details are awaited PTI SPK NP NP

Pune Jan 28 PTI Investigation into the alleged malpractices in the results of the Teachers Eligibility Test TET-2020 in Maharashtra has revealed that the marks of as many as 7800 candidates were allegedly manipulated and changed in exchange of money a top police official said on Friday A report has been prepared in this connection and it will be submitted to the state government Pune Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta said During the investigation of the alleged scam the names of 7800 candidates came to light whose marks were manipulated We have prepared a list of all these people and it will be given to the state government he said The marks of these candidates were allegedly tampered with in exchange of money he said Tukaram Supe Commissioner now suspended of the Maharashtra State Council of Examinations MSCE was among those arrested in connection with the alleged tampering of the TET-2020 results Police have also arrested Pritesh Deshmukh director of G A Software the firm which was responsible for conducting the exam and Abhishek Sawrikar a consultant with the education department Gupta said more people are expected to be arrested in the case Police inspector Kumar Ghadge of Cyber police station said that so far 12 people including Supe Sawrikar and Deshmukh have been arrested in the case and over Rs 4 crore in cash gold ornaments and other documents related to the fixed deposits have been recovered in the case PTI SPK NP NP

Pune Dec 23 PTI With a view to bring down the number of accidents taking place at the intersections on the old Mumbai-Pune highway the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation MSRDC in association with a voluntary organisation and a leading car maker has launched tactical urbanism trials at Karla Phata near Lonavala Tactical Urbanism TU trials are temporary quick and relatively low-cost interventions which test out urban design transportation planning and infrastructural changes for improving road safety for all road users especially the most vulnerable like pedestrians cyclists and other non-motorised transport users a release said As part of the Vision Zero Project with MSRDC and SKODA Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd SaveLIFE Foundation is currently testing temporary design interventions to improve safety for pedestrians cyclists and other road users The intersection had discontinuous footpaths in poor condition no waiting space for pedestrians and since the junction on the Highway is used by the villagers there was high exposure to conflict the release said Talking about the initiative Dr Chandrakant Pulkundwar joint managing director of the MSRDC said that Karla Phata on Mumbai-Pune highway has a heavy pedestrian footfall with over 250 pedestrians using the intersection during the peak hour Through these trials at Karla Phata we aim to test a methodology to treat high-risk intersections on national highways and use pre-emptive measures to reduce conflict and therefore any risk to human life We also aim to use this methodology on other intersections on the Old Mumbai -Pune Highway he said PTI SPK NP NP

Pune Oct 29 PTI Chief of Army Staff General M M Naravane on Friday said as the National Defence Academy NDA opens its doors for women cadets it is expected that they are welcomed with the same sense of fair play and professionalism and added that their induction will be the first step towards gender equality in the armed forces He also said induction of women will empower them and at least 40 years later they will be in the same position where he currently stands The army chief made the remarks after reviewing the passing-out-parade of the 141st course of the NDA here Addressing the cadets after the parade he said As we open the portals of the NDA for women cadets we expect you to welcome them with the same sense of fair play and professionalism as Indian armed forces are known world over Last month the Ministry of Defence had informed the Supreme Court that a notification allowing women candidates to appear for the entrance exam to the NDA will be out by May next year But observing that induction of women to the NDA cannot be postponed by one year the apex court had allowed female candidates to take the exam in November this year and not wait till May 2022 as requested by the government Interacting with media persons after the parade Gen Naravane said that as women are being inducted into NDA he is sure that they will perform better than their male counterparts Over the years as we have grown and matured as the curriculum has changed training methodology has changed the course content has improved we have become more well-trained and better-equipped to meet whatever challenges that emerge As we go ahead we shall be inducting women cadets in the academy I am sure they will perform better than their male counterparts he said This is just the first step towards gender equality as the army has always been at the forefront of all initiatives that have been taken in the country As a result of this they will also get empowered They will hold more challenging assignments he added Its not that we dont have women officers We already have women officers undergoing training at OTA Officers Training Academy at Chennai They are exceedingly doing well I am sure that the Academy will continue to prosper and flourish and bring fame and glory Gen Naravane said Asked about how he sees the role of women in the armed forces in the next 20 to 30 years he said At least 40 years down the line they will be standing where I am standing Replying to a question on whether there will be any infrastructural changes in view of women joining the NDA he said that infrastructure will be slightly changed as per the requirements but the training would remain the same As far as training is concerned that will not be any different The training will be held jointly and there will be no difference in the training standards The same regime of the officers training at OTA will be followed he said Earlier during his speech the army chief also appealed the cadets to keep themselves abreast of new technology to counter the contemporary challenges He said he was greatly honoured to review the passing-out-parade A little over 42 years back when I stood as a cadet at the same drill square as you stand today little I could have imagined that I would be reviewing this parade he said From here on you will step into the respective career service academies for more focused military training You will don different uniforms but always remember that no single service by itself can fight and win modern wars he added PTI SPK NP NP
