Pune Apr 22 PTI Taking cognisance of an application filed by a non-government organisation NGO a court in Maharashtras Pune sought a report from the police on an alleged incident of fraud that occurred during a kidney transplant procedure in a city-based hospital recently The police said they have submitted the report to the court A woman had allegedly posed as the wife of a patient so that he could undergo a kidney transplant at city-based Ruby Hall Clinic a private hospital recently The state health department later suspended the hospitals registration for organ transplantation however the High Court stayed the health departments order suspending the hospitals registration for organ transplants The functioning of the regional organ transplant authorisation committee was also temporarily suspended This committee is responsible for giving approval for such transplants A court has sought a report on the alleged fraud during a kidney transplant procedure from us and we have submitted the report said Vinayak Vetal the police inspector from Koregaon Park police station He added that the report was sought by the court after an application was filed by an NGO in the court A woman from Kolhapur who was allegedly promised Rs 15 lakh fraudulently posed as the wife of a man who needed a transplant and donated her kidney to a young woman patient In turn the young womans mother donated her kidney to the man Such a swap involving two patients and their relatives is carried out when the patients cannot receive a kidney from their own kin because of a blood group mismatch On March 29 four days after undergoing the transplant surgery at Ruby Hall Clinic the woman revealed her real identity after she had had a dispute over money The hospital then alerted the police which in turn reported the incident to the state health department PTI SPK NP NP
Pune Apr 22 PTI Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Friday said that in order to tide over the current load shedding crisis in the state the government has decided to import coal to some extent from outside the country for power generation He also said that efforts were on to get one coal mine in Chhattisgarh allocated to the power department in Maharashtra Speaking to reporters here Pawar said the supply of coal was not being done in the country the way it should be Load shedding is going on in the state A meeting was held on this issue by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray I will take a review of the power department every week on the issue of load shedding and the cabinet has given its approval to check whether there is any availability of power in the country he said Efforts are being made to do away with load shedding and to ensure smooth power supply in the state the senior NCP leader said Coal supply to several states is insufficient Maharashtra is also not getting enough supply and that is why we have taken a decision to import coal to some extent from outside the country Besides that efforts are being made to get one coal mine allocated for Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited MahagencoEnergy Minister Nitin Raut is working on it Pawar added Congress president Sonia Gandhi has also asked the Chattishgarh government which is of a similar ideology to allocate one coal mine to Maharashtra he said Replying to a question whether the BJP-led Centre was indulging in vendetta politics by not providing coal to Maharashtra Pawar said the supply of coal to various states was not happening the way it should be done There are issues of railway wagons Today railway wagons are needed to transport coal sugar wheat and other essential commodities which need to be taken to the ports I do not want to bring any politics into it I do not want to make that kind of allegation but it is a fact that there is a shortage of coal the deputy chief minister said Last week minister Nitin Raut had said that load shedding in the state was a result of increase in electricity demand relaxation of the COVID-19 curbs and blamed the Centre for poor management of coal supply PTI SPK NP NP

Pune Feb 24 PTI Pune police have registered an offence against seven Army personnel including two officers after a Naik-rank staffer accused them of allegedly attacking him keeping him in confinement and harassing him physically and mentally an official said on Thursday A defence statement however termed the complaint filed against the military personnel as ill-motivated Police said the alleged incident had taken place on July 6 last year and a complaint in this regard was lodged at Khadki police station The complaint was filed by 34-year-old Army personnel of Naik rank who alleged that two senior Army officers and five other personnel accused him of illegally selling military quota liquor from the CSD canteen meant for defence service personnel in the civil market the police added As per the FIR the complainant alleged that the Army personnel hit him with an iron rod kept him in a confinement detention cell for 20 days and harassed him physically and mentally A statement from defence however termed the complaint as ill-motivated It said that the complainant had been caught by the military police red-handed while trying to sell the military quota liquor meant for defence service personnel in the civil market When investigated further the Naik was found involved in corruption and malpractices by his parent unit An independent senior officer-led inquiry found him guilty of serious corruption charges it said As an afterthought the Army personnel had submitted a complaint to Khadki police on November 16 2021 alleging torture by Army officials the statement said Investigation officer of Khadki police station was then apprised of the factual position of the case including the fact that few of the officials named in the complaint were on leave and not present on duty Allegations were also levelled against the officer who was not even posted at the time of the alleged incident it added PTI SPK NP NP
Pune Feb 23 PTI The question paper sets of various subjects of Class 12 HSC Maharashtra board exams were gutted on Wednesday morning after the truck carrying them caught fire in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra officials said The question paper sets of the Pune division of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education MSBSHSE were being transported from Madhya Pradesh to Maharashtra when the incident took place they said The state boards offline exams for Class 12 are scheduled to begin from March 4 A truck carrying the question paper sets of Class 12 suddenly caught fire near Sangamner ghat in Ahmednagar district The boxes containing question papers of various subjects were destroyed due to the blaze and later lay scattered on the road boards chairperson Sharad Gosavi said Ahmednagar Superintendent of Police Manoj Patil said the incident took place around 7 am As per the preliminary information smoke started billowing from the truck when it was moving The driver and other occupants jumped out Soon the truck caught fire and the paper sets were gutted he said After being informed about the blaze the police and fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire he said PTI SPK NP NP
Pune Jan 19 PTI Maharashtras Pune district on Wednesday recorded 12633 new COVID-19 cases taking its overall tally to 1281974 while the death toll rose by 12 to 19322 an official said On Tuesday the district had recorded 11748 infection cases and eight deaths due to it The districts positivity rate or cases detected per 100 tests is over 30 per cent he said As many as 8357 patients recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours the official said Of the 12633 new cases 6441 were reported from Pune city 3505 from Pimpri Chinchwad and 2687 from rural and cantonment areas The active tally stood at 73098 of which 2330 patients are hospitalised he said PTI SPK NP NP
Pune Dec 30 PTI A revolver belonging to Pune city Congress president and former Maharashtra minister Ramesh Bagwe was allegedly stolen along with five live rounds from his car police said on Thursday The incident took place between December 25 and 27 in the city police said The revolver and the five rounds worth Rs 1 lakh were kept in a compartment near the front passenger seat of the vehicle a police official said An unidentified person allegedly opened the door of the car and stole the revolver and the rounds he said We have registered a case against an unidentified person under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code IPC and investigation is on the officer from Khadak police station said Bagwe said he realised that the revolver was missing on December 27 following which he approached the police and lodged a complaint PTI SPK NP NP
Pune Dec 23 PTI The Food and Drug Administration FDA in Maharashtra has issued an order asking food vendors not to wrap any eatables in newspapers while selling them to customers as the ink used for printing is harmful Directing the vendors to stop giving food items like vada pav pohe sweets bhel and others wrapped in newspapers to customers the FDA also warned of a strict action if the practice is not stopped While giving a food parcel the vendors often wrap the items in a newspaper Since the ink used for printing the newspapers is made up of chemicals offering hot food items like vada pav pohe fritters bhel bakery products and several other such food items wrapped in newspapers can be dangerous the FDA said in a statement on Wednesday night The vendors should stop wrapping the eatable in newspapers immediately or else strict action will be taken it said FDA Joint Commissioner Shivaji Desai said In 2016 the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India FSSAI had issued a pan-India advisory banning newspapers to be used for wrapping food items But we received complaints that the use of newspapers by vendors is still on Therefore in order to create awareness we have issued this order PTI SPK NP NP
