Raipur Mar 21 PTI A 31-year-old man driving his car in an inebriated condition on a Raipur street lost control of the vehicle which hit a roadside vendor returning home killing him on the spot and leaving one injured police said on Monday However eye-witnesses claimed that three persons were injured in the incident The accused Devraj Pal a resident of Telibandha area was arrested and his vehicle impounded they said Driving drunk on Sunday night Pals car hit vendor Laxmikant Dohre 20 in Budha Talab area here when the latter was returning home with his pushcart leaving him dead on the spot Raipur Superintendent of Police Prashant Agrawal told PTI As per eyewitnesses the car also hit a few cars and other vehicles that left three persons injured However police found only one person injured at the spot who was taken to a hospital and discharged after preliminary treatment he said The deceased was a native of the Jalaun district in Uttar Pradesh the SP said The accused was booked under section 304 culpable homicide not amounting to murder of the Indian Penal Code IPC Agrawal said adding that further investigation is underway A CCTV footage of the incident shows the rashly driven car ramming into the pushcart vendor and then hitting a parked car on the roadside PTI TKP NSK NSK
Raipur Jan 29 PTI Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will visit Chhattisgarh capital Raipur on February 3 to launch a financial assistance scheme for landless labourers of rural areas a government official said on Saturday Gandhi will inaugurate Rajiv Gandhi Bhoomihin Krishi Majdoor Nyay Yojana at a function on Science College ground here he said Under the scheme registered labourers in rural areas who do not possess agricultural land will be given financial assistance of Rs 6000 per year he added Nearly 45 lakh landless families of MGNREGA labourers barbers blacksmiths priests etc will benefit from the scheme for which the state government had made a provision of Rs 200 crore in the budget for the financial year 2021-22 he said This will be Gandhis first visit to the state since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out in the country in 2020 although he had attended the state governments programmes virtually during this period PTI TKP ARU NP NP

Raipur Aug 30 PTI The Chhattisgarh government has approved to hike the bus fare by 25 per cent considering the demand raised by private bus operators in the state in the wake of the steep rise in fuel prices an official said on Monday A delegation of bus operators associations on Sunday evening met Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel here at his official residence and urged that the passenger fare be raised by at least 40 per cent because of the spike in the prices of diesel he said Considering their demand the CM gave the nod to hike the fare by 25 per cent the state public relations department official said The Chhattisgarh transport department had last time hiked the bus passenger fare in 2018 when the diesel price was Rs 6920 per litre On May 1 this year the price of diesel stood at Rs 8910 per litre he said Patron of Chhattisgarh Yatayat Mahasangh CYM and senior Congress leader Pamod Dubey and office-bearers of Bus Owners Federation of Chhattisgarh BWFC apprised the CM about the problems being faced by them during the meeting he said They said increasing the passenger fare is justifiable as all buses can be operated smoothly for the convenience of the general public Private bus operators had gone on an indefinite strike and stopped plying buses across the state on July 13 this year in support of their demands including a hike in fare but on the same day the stir was called off on the assurance of the state government PTI TKP NSK NSK
