Guwahati Mar 30 PTI Assam minister Atul Bora on Wednesday admitted that many go-shalas cow shelter in the state are functioning under poor conditions and scores of cows have died due to lack of proper careOpposition members during an Assembly session drew attention of the government to the rising number of cattle death in these sheltersIt is true that cows are dying in the go-shalas The Jagiroad shelter accounted for a large number of deaths After coming to know the situation we arranged medical treatment and fodder for the cows there the animal husbandry and veterinary minister statedHe told the House that a Standard Operating Procedure SOP had been submitted to the Home department on ways to run the sheltersBora said Assam has a total of 16 go-shalas of which two are government recognised and the rest are privateWe will increase the number of cow shelters in the state in the coming days he said without sharing further detailsAIUDF MLA Rafiqul Islam on his part had said that many cows died due to lack of food and water in the shelters PTI TR RMS RMS

Guwahati Mar 21 PTI A total of 3095 incidents of suicide took place in Assam in 2021 the assembly was informed on MondayReplying to a query by BJP MLA Mrinal Saikia during the Question Hour Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that 3095 incidents of suicide were reported last yearSarma who also holds the Home Department said that the number of suicides has decreased from 2020 when 3243 such incidents were registeredWhen the police are intimated about a suicide case then they start investigation If any person or group is found to be behind the suicide then legal steps are initiated against them he addedThe chief minister however said that the actual reasons for suicide may vary from incident to incidentThe issue of mental health is involved with cases of suicide The government is taking various programmes to develop the mental health condition he added PTI TR SOM SOM

COVID-19 Assam records no death after 52 days

Guwahati Feb 24 PTI For the first time after 52 days Assam reported no death due to COVID-19 on Thursday although it registered 32 fresh infections the National Health Mission NHM said It was on January 2 when the state had last witnessed zero death due to the pandemic On Thursday the state reported 32 new cases against testing of 3615 samples for COVID-19 the NHM bulletin said Assam had recorded 25 cases against the testing of 4098 samples on Wednesday Kamrup Metropolitan district which primarily comprises Guwahati city reported 14 fresh cases The NHM said that 57 coronavirus patients recovered on Thursday taking the total number of cured people to 715767 The total number of deaths of COVID-19 infected people stands at 7984 including 1347 with co-morbidities Currently the state has 319 active cases With 724070 total COVID-19 positive cases in Assam the overall positivity rate stands at 256 per cent against total testing of 28294709 samples so far The NHM said a total of 43172599 doses of vaccines have been administered in the state PTI TR NN NN

Guwahati Feb 23 PTI Assam on Wednesday reported 25 new COVID-19 cases 11 less than the previous days figure taking the tally to 724038 a National Health Mission NHM bulletin saidTwo fresh fatalities linked to coronavirus pushed the death toll to 7984The bulletin said 1347 coronavirus patients have died of other ailmentsAssam had recorded 36 COVID-19 cases against the testing of 4794 samples on TuesdayAs many as 4098 samples were tested for COVID-19 during the dayKamrup Metropolitan district which primarily comprises Guwahati city reported 11 fresh casesThe bulletin said 715710 COVID-19 patients had recovered in Assam so far including 95 on WednesdayThe number of active coronavirus cases in the state currently is 344Meanwhile the total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the state is 43118331The bulletin said that a total of 42779 persons were vaccinated on Wednesday PTI TR MM MM

Assam govt tightens COVID restrictions non-vaccinated people banned from visiting public places

Guwahati Jan 24 PTI The Assam government on Monday issued an order tightening restrictions to contain spread of COVID-19 in the state and banning entry of non-vaccinated people to public places except hospitals It also directed authorities to shut schools for up to class 8 students The government asked citizens to carry proof of vaccination while going to public places These restrictions will come into effect from 6 am of January 25 the order said The status of COVID-19 in the state has again been reviewed and it has been observed that the number of COVID-19 cases has been gradually increasing over the last few days thereby increasing the positivity rate Officiating Chief Secretary P K Borthakur said in the order Accordingly Assam State Disaster Management Authority ASDMA issued a new set of guidelines which are to be followed to arrest the spread of COVID-19 and it will remain in force until further order Physical classes in all schools up to class 8 in all districts shall be suspended and all such educational institutions shall migrate to virtual options until further orders it said Classes in schools have been allowed on alternate days for class IX and above in all districts All educational institutions including schoolscollegesuniversities shall continue to provide quality virtual options the new order said The ASDMA said non-vaccinated people will not be allowed to enter public places except hospitals All people are required to carry proof of being fully vaccinated while visiting public placesspaces The owners of publicprivate establishments shall be responsible for ensuring that only those entrants who are fully vaccinated are allowed inside and this has to be done scrupulously by checking their vaccination status Failure to do so shall attract penal action the government order added PTI TR BDC BDC

Guwahati Dec 30 PTI The Assam government on Thursday announced that it will start vaccinating students in the 15-18 age group from January 3As per an official order the exercise to vaccinate all the students in the age group of 15-18 will be completed by the first week of MarchThe vaccination drive will start from 3rd January 2022 and shall initially cover students within the age group of 15 years to 18 years Education Department Principal Secretary B Kalyan Chakravarty said in the orderThe Inspectors of Schools of all districts were instructed to select at least 10 schools in smaller districts and 15-20 in bigger ones to start the vaccination drive on MondayThe Additional Deputy Commissioners ic education of the respective districts will supervise the conduct of the vaccination drive in a flawless manner in coordination with the Inspector of Schools the order statedBesides the Headmaster and Principals shall encourage the students to motivate their parents to take the second dose of the vaccine if not done earlierThe Inspectors of Schools will also ensure that the students of private schools and venture schools are covered in this exercise the order mentionedIt further said that the Inspectors of Schools shall also collect the list of junior colleges polytechnics technical institutions in their respective districts for the vaccination driveAccording to the National Health Mission NHM data a total of 37382577 doses of vaccines have been administered to people above 18 years in Assam This includes 21721026 first doses and 15661551 second doses PTI TR SOM SOM

Over 45 lakh cases pending in Assam courts

Guwahati Dec 20 PTI Over 45 lakh cases are pending in the courts across Assam including the Gauhati High Court the state assembly was informed on Monday In a written reply to a query by AIUDF MLA Ashraful Hussain the Judicial Department of the Assam government said 41313 cases are pending in the high court and 413627 cases are under trial in lower courts Various courts are established in every district and sub-divisions to clear the pending cases it stated Seventeen special POCSO Protection of Children from Sexual Offences courts have also been set up to try cases related to sexual exploitations on children On the reason for such pendency the department said the courts could not function since 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and they are trying to dispose of the cases now PTI TR NN NN
