Srinagar Jan 22 PTI Two militants belonging to the Lashkar-e-Taiba LeT outfit were killed in an encounter with security forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday police said A police spokesman said that based on a specific input regarding the presence of terrorists in village Kilbal area of Shopian in south Kashmir a cordon-and-search operation was launched During the search operation as the joint search party proceeded towards the suspected spot the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter he said In the ensuing encounter two terrorists of the proscribed terror outfit LeT TRF were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of the encounter the spokesman said The Resistance Front TRF is a shadow group of the Lashkar-e-Taiba LeT He identified them as Sameer Ahmad Shah a resident of Dhangam in Shopian and Rayees Ahmad Mir of Pulwama As per police records both the killed terrorists were part of group involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on security forces and civilian atrocities he said Incriminating materials arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation the spokesman added PTI SSB SMN SMN

Thane Jan 19 PTI Two persons were charred to death after a truck carrying liquid sulfur met with an accident and hit an autorickshaw which led to both the vehicles catching fire at Ambarnath township in Thane district of Maharashtra on Wednesday afternoon police said The accident occurred near a nullah in Ambarnath east area and the two deceased were occupants of the autorickshaw they said The truck was on its way from Ambarnath to Shil Near the nullah it developed some technical snag and started moving backwards due to the gradient It crushed an autorickshaw on the way due to which the fuel tank of the rickshaw exploded and led to a fire in both the vehicles deputy commissioner of police traffic Balasaheb Patil said Soon the sulphur in the truck also caught fire The two occupants of the rickshaw were charred to death and the deceased are being identified he said Both the vehicles were completely damaged in the incident Patil added On being informed the police and the fire brigade personnel of the Ambarnath Municipal Council rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze he said A fire officer said that the incident took place shortly before 4 pm Police said that the bodies of the two victims were sent to a local government hospital for post-mortem PTI COR NP NP

Itanagar Dec 30 PTI Two more persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Arunachal Pradesh pushing the tally in the northeastern state to 55336 a senior health department official said on Thursday The state did not report any fresh case on the previous day The death toll remained at 280 as no new fatality due to the infection was reported in the last 24 hours State Surveillance Officer Dr Lobsang Jampa said One more person recuperated from the disease during the period taking the total number of recoveries to 55037 he said The recovery rate among coronavirus patients in the state stood at 9946 per cent Arunachal Pradesh now has 19 active cases The Capital Complex Region comprising Itanagar Naharlagun Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas has the highest number of active cases at 12 followed by Namsai district at three Lohit at two West Kameng and Tawang at one each The state has conducted 1204800 sample tests for COVID-19 so far including 210 on Wednesday and the positivity ratio stood at 095 per cent State Immunisation Officer Dr Dimong Padung said 1460089 people have been inoculated since the beginning of the vaccination drive PTI UPL SBN BDC BDC
