Hyderabad Jan 27 PTI Telangana on Thursday recorded 3944 new COVID-19 cases taking the tally to 751099 while the death toll rose to 4081 with three more fatalities Telangana on Wednesday reported 3801 new COVID-19 cases The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation GHMC accounted for the highest number of fresh cases with 1372 followed by 288 in Medchal Malkajgiri and 259 in Ranga Reddy districts a state government bulletin said providing details as of 530 PM today A total of 2444 people recovered from the infection today taking the cumulative number of recoveries till date to 707498 Active cases stood at 39520 the bulletin said A total of 97549 samples were examined today and the total number examined till date was 31776018 The samples tested per million population were 853735 The case fatality and recovery rates were at 054 per cent and 9420 per cent respectively PTI VVK BN BN

Hyderabad Jan 18 PTI Telangana recorded 2983 fresh COVID-19 cases on Tuesday taking the tally to 714639 while the death toll rose to 4062 with two more fatalities Telangana had recorded 2447 new COVID-19 cases on Monday The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation GHMC recorded the highest number of fresh cases with 1206 followed by Medchal Malkajgiri 259 and Ranga Reddy 227 district a state government bulletin said providing details as of 530 PM today As many as 2706 people recovered from the infection on Tuesday The cumulative number of recoveries till date was 688105 The number of active cases stood at 22472 the bulletin said A total of 107904 samples were tested today and the total number examined till date was 30817562 PTI VVK BN BN

Hyderabad Dec 23 PTI In the biggest ever haul of cocaine in Telangana the Cyberabad Police on Thursday said 183 grams of the narcotic substance was seized and three people including a drug peddler were arrested in this connection A police team on Wednesday apprehended two persons consumers from a flat here along with two grams of cocaine and based on their information the police took into custody the drug peddler who is an Arabic Tutor from his house and seized 181 grams of cocaine and 44 ecstasy tablets In addition to this three mobile phones were also seized The value of the seized items is estimated at Rs 2628 lakh Cyberabad Police Commissioner M Stephen Raveendra said adding this is the biggest haul of cocaine till date in Telangana The drug peddler told police that in view of the New Year he procured huge quantity of cocaine from the main organiser and drug supplier Zude alias Chris belonging to Nigeria and a resident of Goa who is absconding The accused further disclosed that he brought cocaine many times from Goa and sold it in Hyderabad police said The Commissioner said during 2021 till now a total of 202 cases were registered by Cyberabad Police and as many as 419 accused were arrested from whom ganja hashish oil weed oil MDMA Opium ecstasy pills LSD papers were seized Preventive Detention PD Act was invoked against 23 drug offenders Police has stepped up its drive against ganja trade in Cyberabad Commissionerate limits and continuous raids are being conducted on a daily basis Raveendra said Bulk buyers local retailers and drug transporters were on police radar in order to curb ganja peddling and usage the senior police official added PTI VVK BN BN

Hyderabad Dec 21 PTI A former Sarpanch from Mulugu District of Telangana went missing even as his wife on Tuesday appealed to Maoists to release him if he was in their captivity A senior Police official said as the wife of the former Sarpanch from Venkatapur mandal is suspecting some foul play since her husband who went to Chhattisgarh and did not return home they were verifying the matter In a video which was telecast by local TV channels the woman appealed to the Maoists to release her husband unharmed if he is with them According to the woman her husband had gone to Chhattisgarh and has not returned and she has not be been able to establish contact with him Police based on preliminary investigation said the former Sarpanch allegedly worked for the Maoists and his wife knew about his activities However no case has been registered the senior police official added PTI VVK BN BN

Hyderabad Nov 29 PTI A total of 184 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Telangana on Monday taking the total number of positive cases in the state to 675798 The death toll rose to 3990 after one more person succumbed to the virus The number of active cases stood at 3581 a state government bulletin said The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation reported the highest number of 70 cases followed by Sangareddy 33 and Medchal Malkajgiri 12 districts A total of 33236 samples were tested today Cumulatively the number of samples tested was 28544311 A total of 137 COVID-19 recoveries were reported today taking the total number of recoveries to 668227 The recovery rate and case fatality rate in the state was 9887 per cent and 059 per cent respectively the bulletin said Meanwhile at least 40 students and one teacher tested positive for COVID-19 at a state-run residential school for girls in Sangareddy district a health official said adding they are under quarantine Samples of all those who tested positive for coronavirus were sent to Hyderabad for genome sequencing the official added PTI VVK BN BN

Hyderabad Oct 28 PTI City-based National Geophysical Research Institute and Marine and Coastal Survey Division MCSD Geological Survey of India GSI Mangalore have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding on Thursday for collaboration in the field of natural resource exploration in the Andaman Offshore region utilising the resources of both the institutes The scientists of CSIR- National Geophysical Research Institute NGRI have proven expertise in marine seismic studies with proven record of technique development an official release said GSI has been carrying out seismic surveys on selected parts of the continental shelf rise and convergent margin in order to unearth submarine structures and associated mineral resources on Indias Exclusive Economic Zone EEZ utilising the multi-channel seismic data acquisition system along with other geoscientific equipment onboard RV Samudra Ratnakar it said Within the framework of this MoU CSIR-NGRI would be carrying out advanced processing of the seismic data acquired by GSI in order to precisely identify the subtle seismic features and delineate the fine-scale velocity structure in the region it said These efforts are aimed at bringing synergy between the two institutes and to work in tune with the blue economy model of the country the release added PTI VVK BN BN

Hyderabad Oct 21 PTI A total of 183 new COVID-19 cases and one related fatality were recorded in Telangana on Thursday pushing the caseload to 669739 and the death toll to 3943 respectively A total of 183 COVID-19 recoveries were reported taking the total number of recoveries to 661829 leaving active cases at 3967 a state government bulletin said The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation logged the highest number of 59 cases followed by Karimnagar 18 and Rangareddy 15 districts A total of 41363 samples were tested today and cumulatively the number of samples examined was 27197428 The recovery and case fatality rates were at 9881 per cent and 058 per cent compared to the national average of 9812 per cent and 13 per cent respectively the bulletin said PTI VVK BN BN

Hyderabad Oct 21 PTI A case has been registered against a trainee IAS officer here for allegedly cheating and raping a woman after promising to marry her police said on Thursday The woman in a complaint filed with police alleged that the trainee officer who is the son of a former MLA of Telangana and presently undergoing training at Madurai District Collectorate in Tamil Nadu raped her on different occasions here since 2019 by blackmailing her and threatening to call off the marriage if she does not fulfill his sexual desires they said Following the complaint a case was registered on September 27 under relevant sections of IPC against the trainee officer and also against his father for abetting the crime police said The IAS trainee officer and the woman were in a relationship earlier He had told her that he will marry her but later stopped responding to her as it seems he wanted to marry someone else Now the woman has complained that on the pretext of marriage he raped her and based on the complaint a case was registered a senior police official said Further investigations were on PTI VVK BN BN
