Mumbai Apr 20 PTI A truck driver has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a traffic constable who stopped him for a violation in the western suburb of Malad here police said on Wednesday The incident took place in Malwani area late on Tuesday night when a truck was seen at Marve Road despite a ban on heavy vehicles being plied during peak hours an official said Constable Sharad Chowdhary who was on duty along with his colleague intercepted the vehicle which sped away and he followed the errant truck on his two-wheeler and stopped it he said The accused driver alighted the truck and started assaulting the constable following which the police were alerted the official said A case under sections 353 assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty and other relevant provisions of the IPC has been registered against the truck driver he added PTI ZA ARU ARU

Mumbai Apr 20 PTI A case of murder has been registered against unidentified persons in connection with the body of a man recovered from a nullah in Deonar area here police said on Wednesday The decomposed body of a man in his 30s was found in a nullah in Tata Nagar locality of Deonar last week an official said The body was sent for an autopsy which revealed that the man had died of unnatural causes he said The police are trying to establish the deceased mans identity and examining the CCTV cameras in the locality to track down the accused the official added PTI ZA ARU ARU

Mumbai Mar 23 PTI Two persons were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly stealing autorickshaws from various locations in Mumbai and selling them in Solapur city an official said adding that police have recovered 14 stolen autorickshaws The accused duo Asif Sheikh 26 and Laxmikant Khetri 28 used to sell the stolen autorickshaws at a low price after using fake number plates and bogus documents he said The official said Sheikh and Khetri mainly targeted CNG-based autorickshaws as a CNG refill station opened recently in Solapur city located 400 km away from Mumbai Police suspect that the accused duo could be part of a big gang and might have stolen more auto-rickshaws than what they have revealed so far A case was registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code IPC and further investigation is underway the official added PTI ZA NSK NSK

Mumbai Feb 23 PTI The Mumbai crime branch on Wednesday arrested a 64-year-old man wanted in connection with the seizure of drugs worth over Rs 14 crore in suburban Sion here an official said The police apprehended Yashwant Vitthal Patil alias Yasa who had been on the run since October last year the official said Four members of a family Bandu Udanshive 52 his wife Clera daughter Cynthia 23 and son-in-law Jasar Jahangir Shaikh 24 were arrested in October after charas worth Rs 144 crore was found in their car in Dahisar During the probe the arrested accused revealed that the contraband had been sourced from Jammu and Kashmir and Yasa was going to take the delivery of the high-quality charas he said The police had last month arrested Gulzar Ahmed Khan 40 from Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir for supplying the contraband the official said With the recent arrest the police have booked six persons in the case he added PTI ZA ARU ARU

Mumbai Feb 20 PTI The Mumbai Police have arrested four persons including three robbers who used to steal expensive mobile phones laptops and other valuable items by targetting women and senior citizens living in housing societies in Kalina area an official said on Sunday One of the four accused arrested by police is a mobile phone shop owner identified as Dinesh Madhvi who used to buy stolen phones from the gang and resale them by changing their IMEI International Mobile Equipment Identity numbers The other three arrested accused are identified as Sukhvinder Bhatia alias Raja Jackysingh Bhakad alias Adu and Akshay Bhatti With their arrest the police in Versova has solved at least two cases of robbery and recovered stolen mobile phones and a laptop the official said According to the police the gang used to gain access to housing societies under the pretext of seeking donations for the poor and orphan children They used to mainly target women and senior citizens after finding them alone in flats They have been booked under section 380 theft in dwelling house 411 dishonestly receiving stolen property and 34 common intention of the Indian Penal Code the official said adding that further investigation is underway PTI ZA NSK NSK
