Mumbai Apr 26 PTI A 22-year-old transgender was arrested by the Government Railway Police GRP for allegedly robbing women commuters traveling in Mumbai local trains by threatening them with a toy gun and a knife an official said on Tuesday The accused Praful alias Sania Panchal used to target passengers travelling in womens coaches Panchal was nabbed from Khar in Mumbai after analyzing footage of CCTV cameras at platforms of the Borivali railway station the official said Panchal had robbed a woman commuter in a Virar-bound local train last week and threatened her with a toy gun the official said Panchal is a habitual offender who had robbed a woman at knifepoint in the past he added PTI ZA NSK NSK

Mumbai Apr 20 PTI Two men have been arrested by Mumbai Police for trying to drive their car into the security convoy of visiting Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth in Mumbai in an inebriated condition police said on Wednesday The incident occurred at 150 AM on Monday when Jugnauths carcade was moving from the Western Expressway Highway towards the Bandra Worli sea link A traffic police constable posted on the north-bound stretch of the road had stopped the traffic for the convoy to pass but two men sitting in a car began to honk police said The duo is identified as Akash Anil Shukla 24 and Santosh Ginde 22 Shukla who was at the wheel began moving forward and tried to intimidate police officials at the spot by honking continuously and trying to enter the route of the foreign dignitary police said When police officials tried to prevent the duo from moving forward in the car Ginde abused them and started recording a video on his mobile phone while Shukla stepped on the accelerator and tried to run over the police officials and enter the convoy the police complaint stated The car was intercepted when it tried to move towards the sea link and the duo was detained They were taken to the Bhabha Hospital where a medical test confirmed that they were drunk They were booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code IPC including 186 obstructing public servant in discharge of duty 279 rash driving and 336 endangering lives besides other sections of the Motor Vehicle Act They were later released on bail the official added PTI ZA NSK NSK

Mumbai Feb 27 PTI A 46-year-old man wanted in a cheating case registered in Mumbai against whom a Look Out Circular LOC was issued was detained at the Delhi international airport recently while he was trying to flee to Dubai an official said on Sunday The accused identified as Umar Abdul Aziz Bhawani alias Sohail Bhawani was later arrested by the Mumbai Police Bhawani was booked for allegedly cheating the complainant and his two sisters of Rs 35 lakh by assuring them good returns on their investment in his customs business a JJ Marg police station official said The investigation revealed that Bhawani has duped many people using a similar modus operandi he added The official said while Bhawanis accomplice Shahrukh managed to clear immigration at the Delhi airport Bhawani was taken into custody PTI ZA NSK NSK

Mumbai Jan 31 PTI A 28-year-old newly married nail artist died of burn injuries on Monday days after he was allegedly set on fire by his wife and two of her family members in suburban Vile Parle police said The victim Kartik Gaur had received more than 60 per cent burns An official said Gaur had fought with his wife Soni Yadav last week over some issue Later she rang up the police following which the duo was taken to the local police station on January 26 While Gaur walked out of the police station later police registered a Non-Cognisable NC offence against him on Yadavs complaint the official said adding that shortly after they received the information that Gaur was injured in a fire Police rushed to the residence of Gaur in the Sutarpakhdi area and rushed him to a nearby civic hospital In his statement Gaur told police that he was set on fire by his wife and two of her family members using petrol the official said Based on his statement an FIR was registered against the trio under various sections of the Indian Penal Code IPC including 307 murder attempt A police officer however said that they will scan footage of CCTVs in the locality and record statements of eyewitnesses to cross-check the claim of the deceased Nobody has been arrested so far the official said PTI ZA NSK NSK

Mumbai Dec 19 PTI Customs officials at the Mumbai international airport seized 380 kg undeclared gold concealed in coffee powder bottles and some private items from a group of Kenyan women who had arrived from Sharjah and arrested one of them an official said on Sunday He said the officials checked 18 Kenyan women at the airport before seizing the gold The gold in the form of bars wires and powder was concealed in coffee powder bottles linings of inner-wear footwear and masala bottles being carried by the women A total of 380 kg gold worth a few crores was seized he said One Kenyan woman was arrested as she was carrying gold in large quantity while others were allowed to go he added PTI ZA NSK NSK
