Mumbai Mar 30 PTI An adult leopard which had strayed into a village in adjoining Palghar district four days ago was rescued on Wednesday a forest department official saidThe wild animal whose one of the legs had injury marks due to entanglement in a snare was rescued by the forest department in collaboration with a team from Mumbais Sanjay Gandhi National Park SGNP from Kashid Kopar village the official saidAccording to the official the leopard was spotted by local residents whose houses are located near a forest four days ago after which they informed the police as well as the forest departmentThe big cat did not attack any villager but had killed four dogs he saidThe injured feline was later shifted to the rescue centre of SGNP where the snare was removed and the animal was treated for its wounds the official added PTI ZA RSY RSY

Mumbai Mar 23 PTI A 34-year-old college dropout has been arrested for posing as an Ayurveda doctor and practicing in a health clinic in suburban Malad a police official said on WednesdayAccording to the official the arrest was made recently as a part of a joint operation by the Dindoshi Police and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation BMCs PNorth Ward The accused identified as Sukesh Gupta had been practicing in the Shivshahi area of Malad for the past four years he saidThe civic body had been verifying the qualifications of doctors in its jurisdiction after coming across instances where people with fake medical degrees were found treating patients and prescribing medicinesBMC officials learnt that Gupta had dropped out of college and was treating patients and prescribing them medicinesThe police official said Gupta was given a warning after which he shut down his clinic but reopened it after 6 months After a complaint was lodged by the BMC a raid was conducted at Guptas clinic and he was arrested he said Police seized medicines and equipment from his clinic He was subsequently booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Maharashtra Medical Practitioners ActPrimary probe revealed Gupta had put up a BAMS degree certificate at his clinic and an investigation was underway to ascertain from where he had obtained it the official said PTI ZA RSY RSY

Mumbai Mar 18 PTI A 22-year-old man has been arrested by the police for allegedly pushing to death his colleague from the terrace of a four-storey structure in suburban Kurla following an argument an official said on FridayAccording to the official the deceased identified as Aman alias Bittu Aftab Sheikh 19 was pushed off the terrace by the accused Sultan Khan 22 in the Qureshi Nagar locality of Kurla on ThursdayAn argument erupted between the two over smoking ganja and Khan pushed Sheikh down from the terrace In the process Khan himself slipped and fell from the terrace but got stuck on the second floor of the building he saidSheikh were taken to a hospital where he was declared dead before admission the official saidSenior inspector from the Chunabhatti police station Anil Desai said We have arrested accused Khan under IPC section 302 murder and further investigation was underway PTI ZA RSY RSY

Mumbai Jan 27 PTI Two persons have been arrested for allegedly robbing a merchant navy officer when he was on his way to his residence in suburban Bandra after meeting a friend a police official said on ThursdayAccording to the Bandra police official the arrested accused have been identified as Anil Garud 30 and Akshay Ghodake 27On the day of the incident which took place recently the victim was on his way to home in Bandra on a motorbike when he got into an argument with the duo over some issue he saidThe accused stopped the victims motorbike and started arguing with him The duo abused him and snatched his expensive mobile phone as well and cash from his wallet he saidLater the merchant navy officer lodged a complaintThe police immediately swung into action and scanned footage from around 40 CCTV cameras and nabbed both the accused who have criminal background within three hours of the incident the official saidThe duo was arrested under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code IPC including 392 punishment for robbery and further investigation was underway the official added PTI ZA RSY RSY

Mumbai Jan 20 PTI Choreographer-filmmaker Remo DSouzas brother-in-law Jason Watkins was found dead at his residence in Millat Nagar in Mumbai on Thursday a police official saidAccording to the official Watkins who was found hanging by his parents after they returned home allegedly committed suicideThe 42-year-old was facing some health issues which may have driven him to take the extreme step he said but added no suicide note was found from the spotAs per initial probe Watkins was alone in his flat at the time of the incident His parents had gone out to buy medicines and when they returned they found him hanging from the ceiling the official saidThey alerted the police and Watkins was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead before admission the official saidOn the basis of primary information the Oshiwara police have registered an Accidental Death Report ADR in the case as nothing suspicious was found he added PTI ZA RSY RSY

Mumbai Oct 25 PTI Two boys aged 11 drowned in a water-filled pit which was dug up for repairing a pipeline in Antop Hill locality here on Monday evening police saidThe incident took place in the CGS Colony area and the bodies were retrieved and sent to a civic hospital for postmortem they saidThe deceased were residents of the same area and students of Class 5 the police saidA water pipeline repair work was going on in the area and a pit was dug up as part of the project and it was filled with water they saidIt was not yet clear whether the kids jumped into the pit or accidentally fell into it the police saidNecessary action will be taken if any negligence is found on part of those involved in the water pipeline work they saidFamily members of the deceased said they were not aware how the kids reached the spot where the incident took placeWe were at home when some people came searching for our kids They showed us pictures of our kids and we identified them They then informed us about the drowning incident said a member of one of the grieving familiesIt was a case of sheer negligence he allegedIf the contractor had dug up the pit he should have covered it for safety of local residents But it was kept open resulting in our kids falling into it he saidThe Antop Hill police have registered an accidental death report and started investigation an official added PTI ZA RSY RSY
