New Delhi Mar 25 PTI West Bengal is creating an ecosystem for industries to invest and by relaxing compliance requirements it has made it easier for businesses to put in their capital a senior state government official said on Friday In the run up to the Bengal Global Business Summit to be held from April 21-22 West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation WBIDC Chairman Rajiva Sinha said there is no dearth of infrastructure as the current state government has spent the first five years of its stint in developing the same We did not have much to market in the past Now we are proudly saying that we have the prowess to invite to invest he said The summit to be organised jointly by CII Confederation of Indian Industry and WBIDC will see participation from domestic businesses as well as foreign entrepreneurs Sinha said that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has repeatedly emphasised over the last 3-4 months that her three priorities are industry industry and industry We are creating an ecosystem for the Industry to invest This is the time when industries can come to Bengal industries in Bengal can expand Bengal can be seen as a sourcing and warehousing destination Sinha said Summing up on his message to the investor community Sinha said Welcome to Bengal and you will not be disappointed West Bengals GDP has been growing at an average of 126 per cent between 2015-16 and 2020-2021 In 2020-21 the states GDP stood at Rs 1444 lakh crore USD 20664 billion Inviting businesses to the two-day summit Sinha said Bengals growth rate is faster than the national average and unlike the earlier perception it is much easier to do businesses in the state The state government spent its first five years investing in infrastructure while its second term was dedicated to empowerment bringing around 70 lakh people under social safety net There is no societal pressure on what to eat what to watch or which festival to celebrate he said adding that it is a very cosmopolitan state of 11 crore people He said that West Bengal has the tremendous potential to serve as a gateway to the East and northeast and the major game-changer would be the establishment of the deep-sea port which is proposed to be established shortly to facilitate overseas tradeHe elaborated on the facilitative policy environment for setting up educational and healthcare institutions in the state under the Public-Private Partnership PPP model He also mentioned that the government has provided a primacy of place to skill development Sinha further elucidated that the government had taken major strides in the ease of doing business even prior to the start of the rankings for the same As a result compliances have been reduced and business laws have been worked upon and simplified During the last decade the number of manhours lost by businesses owing to strikes and lock-outs have been reduced to almost nil Besides the government is geared towards providing training and upskilling and it bears the entire cost of training the workers he said PTI JD JD RUJ RUJ

Kolkata Feb 19 PTI West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu on Saturday said he did not have information about any draft prepared by his department proposing a Public-Private Partnership PPP model for schools a day after Left-leaning organisations threatened to wage a protest against any such moveAn unsigned and undated notice bearing the school education departments name surfaced on social media recently stating that the government as part of its expansion plans intended to operationalise schools through a PPP modelBasu talking to reporters here at an event stated that no meeting was held in this regard by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and it would be wrong to make assertions by anyone based on speculationsI dont have information of any such draft or notice The chief minister did not discuss anything in this matter with me So what is the basis the minister saidAsked if the notice was a fake one Basu however said We will look into it A senior education department official had told PTI on Friday that its principal secretary Manish Jain in a letter to heads of other allied departments had last month sought their opinion on the PPP model for schoolsThe official had also noted that the government in the face of protests would now carefully watch the situation before making a moveThe draft that was circulated on social media said Whereas to merge the best practices of both government and private schools the School Education Department Government of West Bengal GoWB intends to operationalize schools through Public Private Partnership PPP model and leverage unused infrastructure of the governmentWhereas a need is felt to encourage the private investors in school education sector by extending more flexible Government contribution in the form of Public Private Partnership mode where the State Government may provide land or building or infrastructures and other amenities to the investors Several Left-affiliated organisations of students and teachers including the SFI had on Friday stated that they would stage protests in different schools and colleges if the government went ahead with any such planThe agitators claimed that the idea if implemented would deprive many students especially the underprivileged ones of basic education with private players calling the shots PTI SUS RMS RMS

Chandigarh Nov 25 PTI The Haryana government on Thursday accorded approval to a proposal to enter into an agreement with the National Institute for Smart Government NISG to bring in the experience and expertise from the public and private sectors to enhance in-house capacities A decision to this effect was taken here at a cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar an official statement said The Haryana government through its various departments has been striving to streamline the delivery of various services to its citizens As the departments are widening their scope of work and reviewing or rationalising the schemes and programmes the limitation of qualified competent consultants professionals and experts becomes a challenge to achieve high-quality solutions in a time-bound manner the statement said To define the mission vision and goals for programmes and to formulate the strategy to convert vision into reality the Haryana Cabinet accorded approval to a proposal to enter into a MoU Memorandum of Understanding between the NISG and the state government This MOU will be valid for a period of five years from the date of signing which may be extended further up to five years by mutual consent of both parties the statement said According to the agreement the state government and the NISG may nominate coordinators as nodal officers to represent the parties and promote interface so as to plan implement monitor and review the schedules of various activities from time to time The NISG is a not-for-profit company set up in 2002 by the Government of India GoI on the Public-Private-Partnership PPP model with Secretary Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology MeitY as its chairman The NISG is shaped as an institution of excellence in e-governance to assist governments for ushering in smart governance process reforms and digitalisation PTI VSD SUN CK
