Puducherry Apr 23 PTI Puducherry continued its COVID-19 free streak with no fresh cases and zero fatalities being reported on Saturday also Although the union territory continued to remain COVID-19 free now it was however necessary that there should be strict adherence to safety protocols by the public Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan said here No new cases were recorded in any of the four regions-Puducherry Karaikal Mahe and Yanam- during the last 24 hours ending 10 AM today Director of Health G Sriramulu said in a release The department tested 132 samples in the last 24 hours and there was no fresh viral infection he said and added that there was also no active case reported Sriramulu said the department has so far tested 2232878 samples and has found 1877752 out of them to be negative The overall case load remained 165777 and the recoveries also stood at 163815 The toll was 1962 as there were no virus-related fatalities Sriramulu noted that the test positivity rate was zero while the deaths and recoveries remained 118 per cent and 9882 per cent respectively The health department has so far administered 1671966 doses which comprised 962461 first doses 690779 second and 18726 booster doses the director saidMeanwhile the Lieutenant Governor in a release said there should be no lowering of the guard and people should use masks in public places The territorial administration is taking all necessary steps to ensure that there was no intrusion of fourth wave of the viral infection anywhere in the union territory the Lt Governor said adding that parents should ensure that their children were vaccinated without fail The government was also mulling holding special camps to vaccinate people against the COVID-19 she saidAt present it was difficult for the health authorities to bring people under vaccination scheme and hence intensive campaigns would be held to generate awareness among the people about the viral infection reported in several parts of the country she added PTI COR KH ROH ROH

Puducherry Apr 19 PTI No new case of coronavirus was reported in Puducherry again on Tuesday a senior health official said None of the four regions of the Union Territory -- Puducherry Karaikal Mahe and Yanam -- registered any new case of the viral infection Director of the Department of Health G Sriramulu said in a press release He said 207 samples were examined in the last 24 hours and no fresh case surfaced The active cases count remained unchanged at three with all from Karaikal region The health department has tested 2231980 samples so far across the UT and has found 1876877 samples out of them to be negative Sriramulu said the overall caseload remained 165777 and total recoveries also stood the same at 163812 As there was no fresh fatality the death toll was the same as well at 1962 The Director said the test positivity rate remained zero and the fatality and recovery rates were also 181 per cent and 9881 per cent respectively The health department has administered 1664293 doses which comprised 961117 first doses 685312 second doses and 17864 booster doses the Director further said PTI COR HDA HDA

Puducherry Apr 18 PTI No new coronavirus case was reported again in Puducherry on Monday a senior official of the health department said Zero cases were recorded on Sunday as well In a press release Director of Health G Sriramulu said 10 samples were examined during the last 24 hours in all the four regions of Puducherry Karaikal Mahe and Yanam and no fresh case of viral infection surfaced He said there are three active cases remaining with all of them from Karaikal region The department has conducted 2231970 samples so far in the Union Territory and found 1876867 samples out of them to be negative Sriramulu said the overall caseload remained 165777 and recoveries also stood unchanged at 163812 With no fresh fatality the death toll remained at 1962 The Director of Health said the test positivity rate was zero and the fatality and recovery rates were also 181 per cent and 9881 per cent respectively The department has administered 1662768 doses which comprised 960799 first doses 684506 second doses and 17463 booster doses the Director said PTI COR HDA HDA

Puducherry Jan 20 PTI All the staff of the Electricity Department of the Puducherry government would launch an indefinite strike in the Union Territory from February 1 to protest against the move to privatise the power sector A spokesperson of the Engineers and Employees Association of the Electricity Department on Thursday said in a press release With the territorial government adhering to its stand to open up the distribution wing of power supply the power staff has decided to resort to indefinite strike on February 1 Though talks were convened by the higher officials of the Department of Electricity with delegates of the association today the staff saidWe are not convinced by the arguments of the government as it is very keen on privatisation Talks failed and the staff announced the strike said the spokesperson The spokesperson said there were over 1400 technical staff in the department We joined the service as government staff and will want to retire only as government staff Privatisation will be injurious to the staff the consumers and also the administration they said The strike would be held in all the four regions - Puducherry Karaikal Mahe and Yanam PTI COR NVG NVG

Puducherry Dec 23 PTI The union territory of Puducherry witnessed a fall in the number of fresh coronavirus cases during the last 24 hours with only eight cases being reported The overall COVID-19 tally in the union territory went up to 129374 with the addition of eight infections Director of Health Department G Sriramulu said in a release here The union territory had clocked 21 fresh cases on Wednesday and 20 on Tuesday The Puducherry region logged seven of the eight cases while Mahe added one Karaikal and Yanam regions did not register any new infections during the last 24 hours ending 10 AM Thursday the Director said The new cases were identified at the end of the examination of 1930 samples The number of active cases stood at 146 which included 35 in hospitals and the remaining 111 in home isolation Sriramulu said no fresh fatality was reported from any of the four regions-Puducherry Karaikal Mahe and Yanam- for the fourth straight day and the death toll remained at 1880 Eight patients recovered and were discharged during the last 24 hours as the overall recoveries climbed to 127348 The Department of Health has so far tested 2033194 samples and has found 1722477 out of them to be negative the Director said The test positivity rate was 041 per cent while the fatality and recovery rates were 145 per cent and 9843 per cent respectively He said the department has so far administered 1363052 doses of COVID-19 vaccine which comprised 822602 first doses and remaining 540450 second doses PTI Cor SS SS
