Panaji Aug 31 PTI The Goa police have arrested three persons for allegedly assaulting a doctor at a private hospital near here an official said on Tuesday The Porvorim police on Monday evening arrested three persons hours after the Indian Medical Associations Goa unit staged protest while the main accused is still at large the official said The accused Rohish Salgaonkar 27 Krishna Savlo Naik 32 and Rohil Salgaonkar 32 all residents of Porvorim were arrested under the stringent Goa Medicare Act 2013 he said Family members of a patient had assaulted a doctor at Porvorim last week following which a police complaint was lodged against the accused The IMA had protested outside Porvorim police station on Monday as the police had made no arrests despite an FIR being registered against the accused PTI RPS ARU ARU

Mumbai Aug 30 PTI A special court here on Monday refused to grant the National Investigation Agency NIA the custody of dismissed police officer Sachin Waze for questioning in the Antilia bomb scare case but allowed him to get admitted at a private hospital for the treatment of his heart ailment The cost of such treatment is to be borne by Waze and his family the court said Waze currently in judicial custody had told the court through his lawyer that three of his arteries had 90 per cent blockage and that doctors had advised immediate surgery for the same He urged the court to permit him to seek private medical treatment saying he did not wish to die in custody like tribal rights activist and Jesuit priest Stan Swamy Swamy an accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist link case died on July 5 while awaiting bail on health grounds Last week the NIA had applied to the special court seeking the custody of Waze for two days and of his co-accused and former police officer Sunil Mane for five days in the Antilia bomb scare case Both accused along with eight other accused arrested in the case are currently in judicial custody The special court on Monday also refused to grant the custody of Mane to the NIA Previously Waze was in the NIA custody for 28 days and Mane for 15 days The NIA had sought further custody saying it wanted to question Waze and Mane to corroborate statements of witnesses in the case The NIA had arrested Waze for his alleged involvement in placing an explosives-laden vehicle on Carmichael Road near billionaire Mukesh Ambanis residence Antilia on February 25 Later he was booked for the murder of Thane businessman Mansukh Hiran who purportedly owned the car PTI AYA NSK NSK

New Delhi Aug 24 PTI The Delhi High Court Tuesday directed a Delhi government-appointed committee to decide within six weeks a senior citizens complaint against overcharging by a private hospital here for his COVID-19 treatmentThe committee is directed that as and when the petitioner files a complaint the same be decided expeditiously after following due procedure and within six weeks ordered Justice Rekha Palli who was hearing the senior citizens petition seeking a refund of the excess amount charged by the private hospital in violation of the government order fixing rates for COVID related treatmentThe court also granted liberty to the petitioner to take appropriate legal recourse if he felt aggrieved by the decision of the committeeA writ petition will not lie Why dont you go to the committee There is a procedure for filing a complaint If there is still a grievance you can take legal recourse the judge told the petitioners counsel Kavinesh RM Delhi government counsel Satyakam said that on June 15 an order was issued for setting up a committee at each district under the chairpersonship of the concerned ADMSDM to deal with complaints of overcharging against private hospitalsHe added that the committee looked into the complaints and decided them in a time-bound mannerLots of cases have been there where refund has been given the counsel informed In the present case the petitioner who is aged 63 years claimed that he was admitted to a private hospital here for 36 days last year for COVID-19 treatment and was discharged after paying medical expenses of over Rs 17 lakh Alleging that the charges were calculated in violation of the rate approved by the government the petition filed through advocate Prashant Shukla submitted that the Respondent No2 hospital falls under the category of NABH accredited Hospitals Including entry level and is allowed only to charge at a maximum rate up to Rs18000- per day provided that the patient was admitted in ICU with the need of Ventilator The petition argued that it was unethical and inhuman for the privatecorporate hospitals to encash on the miseries of the common man PTI ADS RKS RKS
