Thiruvananthapuram Mar 20 PTI An all party meeting headed by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday decided that while political parties as well as religious and cultural organisations should not be denied the opportunity to campaign flags and advertisements in relation to their events should not obstruct traffic or pedestrians The all party meeting which was also attended by Leader of Opposition in the state assembly V D Satheesan state Law Minister P Rajeev and various other parties leaders was held in the wake of several orders of the Kerala High Court against putting up of flag poles on pavements and roadsides without permission by political and other organisations In the meeting all the parties were of the view that political parties as well as religious and cultural organizations should not be denied the opportunity to campaign or conduct their events while at the same time flags and advertisements should not be put up in public places in a manner that would obstruct vehicular and pedestrian traffic a release from the Chief Ministers Office CMO said It was decided that flag poles can be put up in private walls or compounds with the permission of the owners and without affecting traffic the release said In public areas like footpaths flag poles may be erected for conventions and festivals with the permission of the authorities concerned and without obstructing pedestrians right of way the parties decided in the meeting They also decided that it should be specified in advance as to how many days the flag poles would be present and when they would be removed after the event concludes the release said The parties directed the Advocate General to inform the High Court of the decisions taken in the meeting as the opinion of the public it said The high courts orders against installation of illegal flag poles came on a plea by a cooperative society which has alleged that a particular political party was illegally putting up flags and banners on its land On November 1 last year the court passed an interim order directing that no illegal flag poles or masts be put up in the state while the issue was being examined by it It had on November 15 last year given 10 days time for people to remove the illegal flag poles and on November 25 2021 it directed the government to invoke provisions of Land Conservancy Act against all flag masts numbering 42337 in the State Subsequently in December last year the court had directed all District Collectors in the state to take action under the Land Conservancy Act against the illegal flag masts PTI HMP ROH ROH

Thiruvananthapuram Feb 22 PTI The opposition Congress-led UDF on Tuesday staged a walkout in the Kerala Assembly protesting over the alleged reluctance of the Left government to discuss the recent Lok Ayukta ordinance which triggered a political controversy in the state They raised the ordinance issue during zero hour and wanted the House to discuss the matter suspending all other businesses but Law Minister P Rajeev objected to their demand saying that questioning an ordinance signed by the Governor through an adjournment motion would set a wrong precedent Strongly justifying the government action bringing the ordinance to amend some of the provisions of the state Lok Ayukta Act passed 22 years ago he said none of the powers of the anti-corruption watchdog is taken away through the amendment and the Left government is the one which has always stood against corruption The Legislative Assembly has the power to amend a law if that was found to be outdated he pointed out Mocking at the government stand Sunny Joseph Congress who sought notice for the motion said they should ready to convince their coalition partner CPIs state secretary Kanam Rajendran who raised objection against the amendment first before trying to convince the opposition about the ordinance Urging the government to explain what was the emergency need that prompted them to bring out the ordinance just before the Assembly session opposition leader V D Satheesan said it was better to dissolve the constitutional body He also alleged that the government brought out the ordinance in a hasty manner as the agency was about to consider some cases against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan He also asked if the Chief Minister was afraid since cases were registered against him As Speaker M B Rajesh rejected leave for the motion based on the governments reply the opposition members registered protest and walked out of the House Despite stiff opposition raised by opposition parties Governor Arif Mohammed Khan earlier this month gave his assent to the ordinance promulgated by the Left government in the state to curb the powers of the Lok Ayukta The opposition Congress has been urging the Governor to not sign the ordinance saying the CPIM-led dispensation was trying to promulgate it at a time when complaints of several irregularities of the government were pending PTI LGK LGK SS SS

New Delhi Dec 20 PTI The condition of the senior DRDO scientist arrested for planting explosives inside the Rohini district court is stable and he is under observation at AIIMS police said on Monday a day after he allegedly attempted suicide by consuming hand wash in a washroom while in custodyAccused Bharat Bhushan Kataria 47 was arrested for allegedly planting an improvised explosive device IED in a tiffin box inside the Rohini court on December 9 with an intention to kill his neighbour who had filed several cases against him and was present on the court premises that day they saidA senior police officer said Kataria is under observation at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences AIIMS and is doing good He is out of danger and his condition is stated to be stable now he addedA few tests were conducted today Monday as part of his treatment while the remaining tests will be conducted tomorrow Tuesday the officer saidThe accused was questioned by the Delhi Polices Special Cell on Friday and subsequently arrested He was in police custody since then and was being interrogated the police saidOn Saturday night Kataria allegedly consumed liquid hand wash inside a washroom and was later found lying unconscious When asked he complained of vomiting and stomach ache He was rushed to the Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital and referred to AIIMS from thereThe police had said that the accused constantly misled officers during interrogationThe IED planted by Kataria triggered a low-intensity explosion in courtroom number 102 Naib Court head constable Rajeev was injured in the blastThe IED was not properly assembled due to which only the detonator exploded the police had said PTI AMP IJT
