New Delhi Sep 20 PTI Delhis first wild animal rescue centre at Rajokri will be launched during the wildlife week next month forest and wildlife department officials said on MondayThe facility has come up on a 124-acre plot in Rajokri in New Delhi district where a monkey rescue centre was lying abandoned We have upgraded it to a wild animal rescue centre It will be launched during the wildlife week a forest department official saidThere was no such private or government facility in the national capital Until now the forest department along with wildlife NGOs used to rescue stranded or injured animals and rehabilitate them at Asola Bhatt Wildlife Sanctuary in South DelhiThe engagement with the NGOs to rescue animals will continue A veterinarian from the South Delhi Forest Division will be deployed at the centre for their treatment the official said The animal rescue centre will come up in place of a proposed facility for birdsThe authorities were not convinced about setting aside government resources for birds such as kites and pigeons which are not of great conservation value according to officials Now wild animals rescued such as nilgai mongoose monkeys and jackals and reptiles will be treated here the official said adding that the centre will also be used for treating birdsEarlier this year the Ridge Management Board a high-powered body tasked with protecting the Delhi Ridge had approved the proposal for a wild animal rescue centre at Rajokri PTI GVS KJ

These floating wetlands have plants that have roots with bacteria that can separate organic waste from the water in the lakesOn these floating wetlands which can cost between Rs 8000 to Rs 10000 apiece along with maintenance pampas grass spider lily yellow and red canna elephant ear plants and soft rush or bulrush plantsOfficials have said that nearly 600 such floating wetlands have been installed in the Sanjay Van Lake and over 1300 have been installed at the Sonia Vihar lakeIn addition to this the wetlands have been installed at the Jaffarpur Kalan Lake Nangloi lake and RanikheraRegardless the DJB has said it will ensure the maintenance of these sites once the wetland systems are in place
