Chandigarh [India], March 12 (ANI): Additional Director General of Police (security) has ordered the withdrawal of security cover of 122 former MPs and MLAs in Punjab.

Chandigarh Jan 19 PTI Punjab minister and Congress leader Brahm Mohindra on Wednesday said the party should declare its CM face for next months state Assembly polls while stressing that Charanjit Singh Channi has proved himself in the role in just three months The local bodies minister said the Congress Party had set the tradition of declaring its chief ministerial candidate ahead of the elections in 2012 and 2017 It should continue with that tradition and announce the candidate sooner than later he said in a statement There should not be any confusion in the party about announcing the chief ministerial candidate when there is already one who proved himself beyond everybodys expectations Mohindra said Mohindra said it has become all the more important when the Aam Aadmi Party AAP has announced Bhagwant Mann as its CM candidate and Shiromani Akali Dal-Badal has already been projecting Sukhbir Singh Badal Under such circumstances the Congress Party cannot afford to leave any vacuum as it can prove detrimental to the partys interests he said That too when we have far better choice than others tried and tested he said A few days ago Cabinet minister Rana Gurjeet Singh had asserted that Channi had done an exceedingly outstanding job during just three months He had said that raising a question mark about his continuation as the CM after party comes back to power can prove to be suicidal The issue of chief ministership was already settled for the Congress in Punjab three months back and there is no need for any further debates or discussions about it Rana had said in a statement He had regretted that confusing signals were being circulated about the fate of the chief minister when he is leading from the front and that too when elections had already been announced PTI CHS SUN RDK RDK

Chandigarh Dec 19 PTI In a no-holds-barred attack Punjab minister Rana Gurjeet Singh on Sunday called state Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu a political mercenary and alleged that he has divided the party The minister also accused Sidhu of questioning the loyalty of the true and traditional Congressmen and said he joined the party just to become the chief minister But sooner you leave better it will be for the party as you have divided and damaged the party from within as if you were pursuing some hidden agenda of your real political masters who are still pulling your strings Rana said in a statement You are just like a mercenary having joined the party just with the sole purpose of becoming the chief minister while I have been in the party right from my birth the minister added calling himself a born Congressman Sidhu had joined the Congress after quitting the BJP ahead of the 2017 Assembly polls The minister said Sidhu is just a political mercenary bereft of any principles or ideology It is an irony that someone who is basically a political party hopper and has not even spent five years in the party is preaching and pontificating to people like us who have spent an entire lifetime in the service of the party he said Rana said keeping keeping in mind Sidhus unstable and eccentric behaviour nobody is sure whether he would stay in the Congress or quit the party before the Assembly polls The senior Congress leader also questioned intentions of Sidhu in opposing his own government and the CM saying he has now been exposed You have been openly criticising our chief minister as you have started feeling jealous and insecure about his popularity among the masses Rana said As party president your key responsibility is to keep the party united but you did not leave any stone unturned to create fissures in the campaign committee manifesto committee and screening committee which were constituted by the party high command said Rana The ministers statement came a day after the Punjab Congress chief in a dig at a rally suggested that it is the end of road for Rajas and Ranas Sidhu had also backed the candidature of MLA Navtej Singh Cheema from Sultanpur Lodhi a seat Ranas son Rana Inder Partap Singh is eyeing to contest Earlier this year Sidhu had become the state Congress chief amid a power tussle with Amarinder Singh who had quit the party following his unceremonious exit as the chief minister PTI CHS VSD RDK RDK

Chandigarh Oct 22 PTI A Punjab minister on Friday dubbed the central legislation extending the BSF territorial jurisdiction to 50 km from the Indo-Pak border inside the state as a fourth black law after the three farm laws enacted earlier Punjabs Soil and Water Conservation Minister Rana Gurjeet Singh who also holds the portfolios of Technical Education and Employment Generation said the increase in the BSFs jurisdiction from earlier 15 km to 50 km is the fourth black law imposed by Centre on Punjab Addressing a gathering in Hoshiarpur after laying the foundation stone for an irrigation project using treated water Singh said the Centre earlier had imposed three farm laws and now the more powers to BSF is another black law on Punjab The Punjab government will strongly oppose this arbitrary decision the minister said Opposing the Centres move to extend the BSFs territorial jurisdiction in the state the Punjab Cabinet on Monday had said that law and order is a state subject and the police force is capable of dealing with any situation The Union government has amended the BSF Act to authorise the border guarding force to undertake search seizure and arrest within a 50 km stretch up from the existing 15 km from the international border in Punjab West Bengal and Assam The minister also lashed out at the Centre for deliberately ignoring the demands and concerns of the countrys farmers who he said have been protesting at borders of the national capital for eleven months He reminded the Centre that Punjabis played a vital role in the countrys freedom struggle and safeguarding the frontiers of the country besides contributing immensely to the countrys food kitty by producing crops But the farmers today have been forced to sit at Singhu and other parts for their rights with the Centre paying no heed to their demandsPTI SUN VSD RAX RAX
