Kochi (Kerala) [India], August 3 (ANI): A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Kochi on Monday sentenced two persons to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and a third to six years in prison after they were found guilty in a 2005 case in which a Tamil Nadu state government bus was set on fire.
Thane Apr 18 PTI A 31-year-old man from Bhiwandi city in Maharashtra was convicted by a special POCSO court for raping a teenage girl in 2018 and sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for seven years Special judge V Virkar also imposed a fine of Rs 8000 on the convict identified as Saddam alias Guddu Istrail Ansari The prosecution examined a total of nine witnesses during the trial Ansari had asked the 16-year-old girl to accompany him on his motorcycle on April 17 2018 when she stepped out of her house the prosecution said He took the girl to a room located near a hillock and raped her He held her captive until the parents of the girl traced her to the room on April 18 the court was told The court convicted Ansari under various charges including rape and wrongful confinement of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences POCSO Act PTI COR NSK NSK
Chennai Mar 26 PTI The Madras High Court has commuted the life sentence given to a man and two others for crimes including kidnap of a minor girl and sexual assault A division bench consisting of Justices PN Prakash and A A Nakkiran passed the order recently based on an appeal by the three persons While confirming the sentences of 10 and 2 years rigorous imprisonment RI respectively for kidnap and forcible marriage of the minor handed to the main accused Vijayakumar the court reduced the life sentence for aggravated penetrative sexual assault to 14 years RI without any remission benefits The bench reduced the life term handed to his accomplices-- Pastor Muniyandi and Joseph Raja-- for offences of abetting aggravated penetrative sexual assault to 10 years RI and confirmed two years of RI each on other counts The trial court was directed to take steps for securing the appellants who were released on appeal bail and imprison them The judges noted that consent of the minor has no relevance at all in the case but it can at the most be considered as a mitigating factor while deciding the question of sentence Vijayakumar hailing from Kanyakumari district befriended the victim during his regular visits to his sisters house near Gobichettipalayam in Erode district The girl was staying with her grandmother After getting acquainted with her he lured her before eloping in August 2016 He later took her to his friends house before marrying her However the Kadathur police caught them following a complaint lodged by the girls grandmother and later arrested the trio The Mahila Court in Erode punished them with life sentence in November 2017 PTI CORR SA SA
Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], February 16 (ANI): The Additional Special Court for Central Bureau of Investigation, Chennai, finally gave its judgement on convicted A.A.S. Haroon on Wednesday for the offence under the Prevention of Money-Laundering Act, 2002 and sentenced to undergo Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) for four years and also to pay a penalty of Rs 6 lakhs and in default to undergo RI for two additional months.
Pune Jan 29 PTI A court here has sentenced three persons to three months rigorous imprisonment for mobile phone theft and pickpocketing railway police said on Saturday According to the railway police the theft took place in October following which the three accused were arrested The three accused who were residents of Sangli had approached a passenger at Pune railway station and fled with his phone One of the accused was caught immediately and the other two were subsequently nabbed an official said A probe revealed that the trio were also involved in seven pickpocketing cases he said A court convicted the trio under relevant sections of the IPC and sentenced them to rigorous imprisonment for three months the official added PTI COR ARU ARU

Patna Dec 17 PTI A court here on Friday awarded life sentence to three persons and 10 years rigorous imprisonment to five others in the 2018 Bodh Gaya blast case Special NIA judge Gurvinder Singh Mehrotra announced the quantum of punishment for eight Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh JMB militants who were convicted on December 10 According to NIA counsel Lalan Prasad Singh and public prosecutor Pramod Kumar life imprisonment was awarded to Ahmed Ali Nur Alam and Paigambar Sheikh In addition Arif Hussain Adil Sheikh Dilawar Hussain Mustafizur Rehman and Abdul Karim were sentenced to 10 years in jail The eight convicts had confessed to their involvement in a bomb blast that took place in the Buddhist pilgrim town on January 19 2018 a few hours after the Dalai Lama had left the spot after delivering a sermon Another accused Mohd Jehidul Islam had pleaded not guilty and his trial will take place separately PTI ANW NAC RMS RMS

Hyderabad Oct 21 PTI A court here on Thursday sentenced a 39-year-old man to Rigorous Imprisonment RI for life for sexually assaulting his minor step daughter The First Additional Metropolitan Sessions Court found the accused guilty under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences POCSO Act and IPC and sentenced him to undergo RI for life It also imposed a fine of Rs 26000 on him However the girls mother second accused was acquitted According to prosecution the step father of the victim now aged 17 had sexually assaulted her since she was 14 and impregnated her following which she gave birth to a boy in 2019 The accused threatened to kill her if she disclosed the matter to anyone The girls mother also supported him the victims brother said in a police complaint filed in March this year The accused continued the sexual assault on the girl and she got pregnant again The accused gave her pills to terminate the pregnancy the complainant said A case was registered and the accused was arrested PTI VVK ROH ROH
Thane Sep 17 PTI A district court has sentenced a 21-year-old man to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl in Maharashtras Thane city Additional sessions judge and special judge POCSO V V Virkar on Thursday found the accused guilty of charges under sections 363 kidnapping 376 rape and other relevant provisions of the IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences POCSO Act The court also imposed a fine of Rs 8000 on the accused According to the prosecution the 16-year-old victim lived in the same locality as the accused in Yashswi Nagar of Balkum On May 16 2018 she went out to answer natures call and never returned home The accused had taken her to Chinchani of Dahanu and kept her in a rented hut there When the victim resisted his advances and wanted him to marry her he refused and repeatedly raped her for over a month until the girl managed to escape and returned home it was stated A police complaint was subsequently lodged based on which the accused was arrested PTI COR ARU ARU
