Mumbai Apr 21 PTI The countrys airport sector is expected to see investments worth Rs 165 lakh crore including from private players in the coming years and the government also aims to have 200 airports Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Thursday The civil aviation sector which was significantly hit by the coronavirus pandemic is on the recovery path and domestic passenger traffic is slowly touching the pre-pandemic levels On April 17 the domestic air passenger traffic crossed the 4 lakh mark for the first time in two years About capital expenditure plans Scindia said we have a plan of close to Rs 98000 crore over the next four years to be deployed in the area of airports alone Out of the total amount Rs 25000 crore would be from the Airports Authority of India AAI and Rs 22000 crore would be for the expansion of airports and the building of new terminals The private sector is looking at close to about Rs 67000 crore in terms of new investments in airports Scindia said while speaking at the Times Networks India Economic Conclave Emphasising that rapid expansion is going to take place the minister said the plan is to have close to 200 airports in the country We had 74 airports prior to 2014 in 70 years of Indias independence and in the last 8 years we have built 67 airports it is my intention by the way to take it close to 200 airports in India and therefore you want to see a rapid expansion of airport infrastructure networks he noted Further Scindia mentioned about a new policy for smaller aircraft to encourage regional transport aircraft and helicopters and sea planes So I want to connect the last mile theres enough of connectivity coming in from international metros to metros domestically but I want to connect tier 2 to 3 cities to metros and to each other So I am looking at a very very aggressive plan over the next three to four years he said Amid the high growth potential in the countrys aviation space a new airline Akasa is expected to take to the skies in the coming months and the now-shuttered Jet Airways is also anticipated to restart operations Akasa and Jet Airways are expected to start operations before the end of this financial year the minister said In March around 106 crore domestic passengers travelled by air as per official data PTI AA MR
Noida Mar 21 PTI The Noida police on Monday claimed to have arrested the biggest beef smuggler in Uttar Pradeshs NCR parts following a gunfight in which the criminal carrying a Rs 25000 bounty on his arrest suffered injuries His arrest is linked to the busting of an interstate cow slaughtering gang on February 6 in which over six quintals of beef was recovered and three people arrested police said The gang was engaged in illegal beef supplying in the national capital region NCR and names of five connected people had emerged then according to officials The exchange of fire took place around 7 pm near the Jaipuria intersection Sector 62 after the local police got tip-off about the suspects movement in the area Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Noida Ranvijay Singh said The accused has been identified as Sonu Kasaai who carried a reward of Rs 25000 on his arrest Noidas Sector 58 police station officials and ACP 2 Rajneesh Verma had got inputs about his movement after which he was surrounded by a police party Singh said The accused was on a motorcycle when he was intercepted But instead of stopping he opened fire on the police party prompting a retaliation in self defense in which he got injured the officer said He said Sonu a resident of Ghazipur in Delhi had multiple cases of cow slaughter against himself in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi In one such case under the Noida Sector 58 police station a reward of Rs 25000 was declared on his arrest Sonu went by different names in different places He identified himself as Sonu Kasaai Munshi or Reyaaz among others He has multiple FIRs of cow slaughter against his name including a couple of these in Noida Singh said Police said four days ago it had arrested one more associate of Sonu In a press note police described him as the biggest smuggler of beef in UPs NCR Sonu who suffered a gunshot injury to his leg was taken to a hospital for treatment after the exchange of fire Monday evening while his motorcycle was impounded police said One illegal firearm along with some live bullets and some tools used in cow slaughter have been seized from his possession police said Further probe and legal proceedings in the case are underway police added PTI KIS RDK RDK
New Delhi Feb 27 PTI The compensation to the kin of hit-and-run victims will be increased sharply by eight-fold to Rs 2 lakh in case of death from April 1 according to a notification by the Road Transport and Highways Ministry The solatium to a person sustaining grievous injuries in a hit-and-run case will increase to Rs 50000 from the current Rs 12500 The ministry in the notification issued on February 25 said that the scheme may be called the Compensation to Victims of Hit and Run Motor Accidents Scheme 2022 and it shall come into force with effect from April 1 2022 A draft scheme was notified by the ministry on August 2 2021 The Scheme for Compensation of Hit Run Accident Victims seeks to enhance compensation from Rs 12500 to Rs 50000 for grievous hurt and from Rs 25000 to Rs 200000 for death an official statement had said This scheme will supersede the earlier Solatium Scheme 1989 it added Under the scheme the ministry has come up with the procedure for detailed investigations of road accidents Detailed Accident Report DAR and its reporting along with timelines for different stakeholders for quick settlements of claims The government will set up a Motor Vehicles Accident Fund which will be used for providing compensation in case of hit and run accidents and treatment for accident victims Last year Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari told Rajya Sabha that 536 persons were killed and 1655 persons were injured in accidents categorised as hit and run in the national capital in 2019 According to the latest government data a total of 366138 road accidents occurred in India during 2020 causing 131714 deaths PTI BKS MR MR
Ahmedabad Feb 18 PTI A special court Friday sentenced 38 people to death in the 2008 Ahmedabad serial blast case As many as 56 people were killed in the blasts that rocked Gujarats capital on July 26 2008The court sentenced 38 of the 49 convicts to death under provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act UAPA and Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code The 11 others were sentenced to life in jail till deathJudge A R Patel also awarded compensation of Rs one lakh each to those killed in the blasts and Rs 50000 for each victim with serious injuries and Rs 25000 each for those with minor onesThe court also imposed a fine of Rs 285 lakh each on the 48 convictsPatel had on February 8 declared 49 of the total 78 accused as guilty under various offences of the Indian Penal Code including for murder sedition and waging war against the state as well as under offences of the UAPA and Explosive Substances ActBombs went off in Ahmedabad on July 26 2008 at various spots including the state government-run civil hospital Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation-run LG Hospital on buses parked bicycles in cars and other places killing 56 persons PTI PJT PD NP VT VT VT
New Delhi Jan 24 PTI The four Lok Adalats organised by National Legal Services Authority NALSA disposed of 127 crore cases across the country in 2021 the authority said on MondayThe settlement amount involved Rs 25000 crore NALSA saidThe cases disposed of included 5581 lakh pending matters and 7202 lakh pre-litigation ones NALSA said in a press releaseThe number involved cases pertaining to 3631 lakh criminal compoundable offences 299 lakh under Negotiable Instruments Act 131 lakh under Motor Accident Claim Tribunal MACT 299 lakh labour disputes 78481 matrimonial disputes 646 lakh bank recovery and 339 lakh civil mattersNALSA said that under the guidance of its Executive Chairman and Supreme Court judge Justice Uday Umesh Lalit it initiated consultations and review meetings with all the State Legal Services Authorities SLSAs to adopt result oriented approach and to maximise disposal of cases in National Lok AdalatsUsing technological advancements and virtual platforms Legal Services Authorities started reaching the doorsteps of the parties Resultantly parties were able to join preparatory meetings as well as the Lok Adalat proceedings from their homes or workplaces saving them the hassles of travelling it said The number of pending cases has increased during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic putting additional burden on the system it said However with a large number of disposal through Lok Adalats a substantiate contribution has been made by the Legal Services Authorities in reducing such burden on the Judicial Administration it said PTI UK SJK SA
