New Delhi Jan 23 PTI The Appellate Tribunal for Electricity will hear Monday a joint plea of Delhis three power distribution companies to let them stop buying costlier power from the NTPCs Dadri I power plant and pave its way to buy cheaper power for its consumers The three Delhi Discoms -- BRPL BYPL and TPDDL-- have approached the APTEL challenging a Central Electricity Regulatory Commissions order denying them the permission to exit from the power purchasing agreement with the NTPCs Dadri I power plant said Discoms sources They said the three Discoms had earlier moved the Supreme Court against the CERCs decision but the apex court had asked them to move the APTEL to get the relief The Discoms officials explained that as part of their efforts to optimise their power purchase costs the three Discoms had decided to stop purchasing power from the NTPCs Dadri I power which 25 years of its commercial operation and due to which it has been generating power at costlier rates and selling it at that rate to its customers The Discoms had stopped scheduling power from Dadri I plant from November 2020 after it completed its 25 years of operation and had sought to exit from it But the NTPC had denied them the exit the sources said Tariff of these stations is comparatively higher than the market sources as well as renewable power procured by the Discoms Average power purchase price from Dadri-I to Delhi consumers is around Rs 650 per unit against the average price of Rs 350 a unit power sold by the NTPC to consumers in the rest of the country Discom sources explained During fiscal 2019-20 Delhi Discoms had purchased power worth more than Rs 1150 crore from Dadri I plant Replacing this expensive power with substantially cheaper green power from SECI available at around Rs 250 per unit would cost only Rs 438 crore annually they said It will lead to savings of around Rs 7150 crore over the next 10 years at the rate of around Rs 715 crore a year for Delhi consumers they claimed Out of the total 15 stations of the NTPC that supply power to Delhi seven stations including Dadri - I are old and expensive Of these six have completed 25 years from their Commercial Date of Operation COD and have fully recovered their capital cost and the seventh one will do so in April 2022 Despite the expiry of the agreements with NTPC and not scheduling the expensive power costing around Rs 65 per unit from Dadri I Delhi Discoms had continued to pay over Rs 35 crore per month as fixed charges to NTPC Discom sources said PTI VIT RAX RAX

New Delhi Dec 22 PTI Two men were arrested for allegedly running a fake government website through which they established an online network across the country for duping people on the pretext of helping them to apply for voter identity cards police said on WednesdayAnkit Kumar Pal 26 and Manmohan Singh 22 who were arrested from Uttar Pradesh were the masterminds behind the fraud they addedMore than 10000 people had fallen prey to the fake website -- voteridcardebharatsevain -- police saidThe accused duo had established an online network for luring people to apply for voter identity cards They used to target gullible victims from all over the country and after the initial enrolment used to charge Rs 650 from themThey had also promoted the fake website by paying money for Google advertisements so that it would appear as a top search option police saidA case was registered at the Rajinder Nagar police station in November on the basis of a complaint from one of the victims who alleged that he had to get some changes effected in his voter ID card for which he searched online and came across the fake website a senior police officer saidWhen he visited the website he was directed to a payment gateway for a payment of Rs 650 as mandatory charges After making the payment he received e-mails from infoebharatsevain and no-replyrazorpaycom stating that the payment was successful his application would be processed and an executive would contact him shortly the officer addedHowever as there was no further response from the website the victim got suspicious and subsequently found out that the official website of the Election Commission of India ECI is voterportalecigovinDuring the course of the enquiry the money trail as well as the website registration details were obtained and it was established that these activities were being carried out by some fraudster on a very large scale The case was handed over to the cyber police station of the district Deputy Commissioner of Police Central Shweta Chauhan saidThe probe revealed that the payment was processed through a payment gateway which was further credited to a bank account registered in the name of a cyber cafeThe proprietor of the cyber cafe was identified as Manmohan Singh a resident of Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh the officer said adding that he was arrestedBased on the information provided by Singh Pal a resident of Amroha in Uttar Pradesh was also nabbed she saidPal told the police that one of their associates whom he had met in Noida while looking for a job came up with the idea of cheating people on the pretext of helping them apply for voter identity cards Chauhan saidThe associate had created the fake website and the payment gateway that was registered in Singhs name she addedThere were transactions involving huge amounts of money from the bank accounts of the accused and efforts are on to trace others involved in the case the police said PTI AMP RC
