The arrested thieves have been identified as Bhangia Dabar (26), Paras Alawa (25), Santosh Bhawar (25), and Nihal Singh Devkar (38), residents of Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh.
As per the complaint, Satish Deshpande, one of the directors at the SII had received a message on WhatsApp from a person posing as SII CEO Adar Poonawalla and was asked to send money into seven different accounts in September 2022. Believing the message was from Poonawala, Deshpande transferred Rs 1.01 crore into those accounts, only to realise later that the company had been duped.
Based on secret information, officers of the Kochi Customs department nabbed the travellers, identified as Syed Abuthahir and Barakaththullah A, who hail from Ramanathapuram in Tamil Nadu and were travelling in the name of Vasudevan and Arul Selvam respectively.
