New Delhi Apr 23 PTI A Delhi court has granted bail to Chander Bhushan Dhillon one of the directors of Pearls Group in connection with a Rs 60000 crore ponzi scam allegedly run by the groupSpecial judge Sanjeev Aggarwal granted the relief on a personal bond of Rs one lakh and one surety of like amount The court directed Dhillon not to leave the country without its prior permission and not to temper with the evidence or influence the witnessesThe CBI recently filed a supplementary charge sheet against 24 people and three companies - Pearls Infrastructure Projects Ltd ARSS Infrastructure Projects Ltd and Jain Infraprojects LtdIt claimed that Pearls Group companies allegedly collected around Rs 60000 crore approx from around 55 crore investors all across the country by illegally operating different investment schemes without any statutory approval and with a motive to dupe the investors It also claimed that the companies collected funds from crores of investors from across the country under the garb of sale and purchase of agricultural land and promise of high returns PTI UK ZMN
New Delhi Dec 23 PTI A Delhi court warned former Punjab police chief Sumedh Singh Saini an accused in 1994 triple murder case to be careful with his demeanour after he showed up at the virtual hearing lying on his bedSpecial CBI judge Sanjeev Aggarwal on Monday asked Saini to be careful in future and maintain the decorum of the court while attending the proceedings through video conferencingThe judge made the observations after noting that even though the former cop said he was unwell and down with fever he did not produce a medical certificate in this regard to the courtAccused no 1 Sumedh Kumar Saini has joined the proceedings through video conferencing VC However it is observed that he joined the VC proceedingscourt while lying on the bed On being asked he submits that he is unwell and is down with feverHowever no medical certificate in this regard has been furnished or filed on record Accused no 1 is accordingly warned to be careful in future with his demeanour and maintain the decorum of the court while attending the proceedings through VC the judge said Saini was chargesheeted along with others in a case of abduction wrongful confinement and criminal conspiracy The court is currently recording the statement of the witnesses in the caseThe case was investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation CBI which registered the first information report FIR on April 18 1994 PTI UK SRY
New Delhi Oct 30 PTI A Delhi court on Saturday dismissed the bail plea of Avantha Group promoter Gautam Thapar arrested in connection with a Rs 500-crore money laundering case Special judge Sanjeev Aggarwal noted that since huge loss of public money was involved in the case it needed to be viewed seriously and considered as grave offence affecting the economy of the country as a whole and thereby causing serious threat to the financial health of the nation The judge observed that economic offences have deep-rooted conspiracies involving huge loss of public funds The court noted that there were allegations that proceeds of crime to the tune of Rs 500 crore were generated in this case and were laundered and utilised in repayment of existing loans and meeting other expenses in conspiracy with the other accused persons arraigned in the complaint Considering the overall facts and circumstances since the allegations against the accused are grave and serious in nature no ground for bail is made out at this stage Consequently the bail application of accused Gautam Thapar is dismissed the judge said The court accepted the arguments made by special public prosecutors Amit Mahajan and N K Matta appearing for the Enforcement Directorate ED that the chances of accused fleeing the country cannot be ruled out The bail application filed by Karanjawala Co on behalf of Thapar had claimed that the accused was not required for the investigation and that no purpose would be served by keeping him in further custody The court recently took cognisance of a charge sheet filed in the case against Thapar and 20 others The final report alleged that the accused committed criminal breach of trust cheating criminal conspiracy and forgery for diversion and misappropriation of public money from 2017 to 2019 and caused a loss to the tune of Rs 46651 crore to YES Bank The ED was probing an alleged transaction between Thapars company Avantha Realty and YES Bank co-founder Rana Kapoor and his wife who are already being investigated under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act PMLA by the agency The money laundering case was filed by the ED after taking cognisance of an FIR lodged by the Central Bureau of Investigation PTI UK ZMN ZMN
