Mumbai Mar 21 PTI Premier off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin who recently became Indias second highest wicket-taker in Test cricket said he never ran after numbers in his career and considers personal milestones as just part of the journey and not final destination Ashwin who picked up 12 wickets at an average of 1508 in the recent Test series against Sri Lanka became Indias second highest wicket-taker in Test matches after he surpassed legendary Kapil Devs tally of 434 wickets By doing so he also became the eighth highest overall in the history of Test cricket with a tally of 442 scalps The numbers are great and its humbling really to see what Ive been able to do in terms of the numbers The more Ive played the more it felt like the numbers are a part of the journey rather than the destination Ashwin said in a release In the past 2-3 years especially the feeling has been great with series wins in Australia comeback into the T20 team it almost feels like how I felt when I first broke into the team wherein a lot has been going on for me The 35-year-old spinner who will represent his fifth franchise in IPL after being roped in by Rajasthan Royals said the lucrative T20 tournament has helped him develop into a better cricketer from its onset The IPL is a tough tournament there are a lot of variables leading into every season which can have an impact Dew pitches the opposition you name it and theres a variable that can impact a game in different ways - which makes it a challenge to prepare for things in advance and youve got to be ready at all times Ashwin said in a release issued by RR However for me personally going into an IPL season is always exciting The IPL gives a window of experimentation something which has enabled me to come out a richer cricketer irrespective of the results every time Ive been a part of it Being one of the senior-most players Ashwin also shed some light on his potential role in the RR I feel contribution to a team is far beyond than just contributing on the ground Ive always been a person who enjoys talking about cricket and have been very open in terms of having a discussion with anyone around the sport With my experience and communication skills Ill try to have discussions with anyone who wants to have a discussion and help to the best of my ability hopefully making a difference to the squad from within he said The 2011 World Cup-winning side member also had words of praise for RR skipper Sanju Samson I think Sanju has got an amazing attitude and a good head on his shoulders Hes always open for discussion open to opinions around the game so thats a great quality to have I do believe Sanju has got the vantage point as a wicketkeeper to judge the game with all the angles the pitch and how things are going to work He also has age on his side and will definitely get better Ashwin signed off PTI SSC SSC BS BS
New Delhi Mar 20 PTI The Delhi High Court has sought the Delhi governments response on a plea by an NGO seeking to make functional a government school here which was constructed and developed back in 2011-12 and is lying unutilised A bench of Acting Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Navin Chawla issued a notice and sought the response of the Delhi government and Directorate of Education DoE on the petition which also sought to take action against the officials who are answerable for their lackadaisical attitude and dereliction of duties The court listed the matter for further hearing on March 29 The petition by NGO Lakshya submitted that a full-fledged school -- Rajkiya Uchh Madhyammik Balika Vidyalaya -- in Joshi Colony in IP Extension here was constructed and developed in 2011-12 and lying unutilised in a poor conditionThe NGO through its president Sanju claimed that anti-social elements are stealing articles including iron gates windows water taps and washbasins from the building and consuming alcohol and other contraband substances thereAdvocate Sanjay Bhardwaj appearing for the NGO said the petitioner sought information from DoE under RTI regarding the school building and the authorities responded that the building has not been handed over to themHowever the department was mute with regard to information about the reason for non-operation of the buildingIt said the school building was constructed with funds of the exchequer and if the petition is allowed it will benefit students and society the plea saidThe school building was inaugurated by a Member of Parliament and other higher officials of DoE in 2014 it said PTI SKV RHL

New Delhi Dec 29 PTI The Delhi Police arrested a man Wednesday for allegedly beating a security guard after the latter stopped him from entering the premises of a bank without wearing a mask police saidThe incident which has been captured in a social media video took place on Wednesday in south Delhis Maidan Garhi area and the accused has been identified as Sanju they saidAccording to police a PCR call was received at Maidan Garhi police station regarding a quarrel at a public bankThe branch manager said that Sanju came to the bank with his mother and when the security guard asked him to wear a mask in view of Covid-19 situation he got annoyed and assaulted the guard a senior police officer saidLater Sanju called his two to three associates and they all allegedly again assaulted the guard and some bank staff the officer said adding the accused persons damaged the glass door chair and other things of the bank and fled awayA case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code Disaster Management Act and Epidemic Disease Act has been registered at Maidan Garhi police station and Sanju has been arrested the officer saidThe other accused have been identified and they will be nabbed soon police said PTI NIT NIT TIR TIR
New Delhi Nov 25 The body of a 40-year-old man was found in a garments factory after a fire broke out in Gandhi Nagar area of Shahadra here on early Thursday morning police said The deceased was identified as Sanju who hailed from a village in Uttar Pradeshs Bulandshahar district they said There was no visible burn injury on the victims body so he could have died due to suffocation police said adding a post-mortem examination will ascertain the exact cause of death According to the Fire Department they received a call around 3 am regarding a blaze in a factory and six fire tenders were rushed to the spot Police said the fire tenders could not reach at the exact location as the factory was in a narrow street They said their all-night patrolling staff rushed there and extinguished the fire which broke out on the first floor of the factory with the help of locals Deputy Commissioner of Police Shahadra R Sathiyasundaram said A man later identified as Sanju was found lying unconscious on the factorys first floor He was shifted to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead The premises were used for manufacturing and storage of shirts by a man named Deepak Jain of Ashok Nagar and he was visited by the cime team as part of an inspection the officer said According to the report from the Fire Department further legal action will be taken he said PTI AMP AAR
