New Delhi Oct 28 PTI The Indian Coast Guards new offshore patrol vessel OPV Sarthak was commissioned into service in Goa by its Director General K Natarajan on ThursdaySarthak is fourth in a series of five OPVs being built by the Goa Shipyard Limited for the Indian Coast Guard ICG according to an official statement These OPVs are multi-mission platforms capable of undertaking concurrent operations it mentionedSarthak will be based at Porbandar in Gujarat and operate on Indias western seaboard under the operational and administrative control of the Commander Coast Guard Region Northwest the statement noted The 105-metre-long ship -- which displaces 2450 tonnes of water -- is propelled by two 9100 kilowatt diesel engines designed to attain a maximum speed of 26 knots it mentioned The ship is fitted with state-of-the-art equipment machinery sensors and weapons which enables it to function as a command platform and undertake mandated ICG charter of duties including search and rescue combating maritime crimes and preserving and protecting the marine environment it noted Sarthak is commanded by Deputy Inspector General M M Syed and has a complement of 11 Officers and 110 men it said PTI DSP NSD NSD
Indore Oct 21 PTI A 19-year-old student of IIT Kharagpur allegedly committed suicide at his home in Madhya Pradeshs Indore city police said on Thursday The body of Sarthak Vijayvat was found hanging in the balcony of his residence in Scheme 78 area on Wednesday an additional superintendent of police ASP said The police recovered a suicide note from the scene in which the victim had allegedly written I quit with details about his studies and family expressing disappointment the official said Sarthak had been attending virtual lectures from his home he said adding that the deceaseds father Jayant Vijayvat is posted in the Narmada Valley Development Authority NVDA as an additional director We are examining the letter Prima facie it appears that Sarthak was suffering from depression because of which he took such an extreme step Further investigations are on the official added PTI HWP MAS ARU ARU
