New Delhi Apr 26 PTI A day after a building collapsed in south Delhi killing two labourers the AAP on Tuesday demanded that the police should register a murder case in connection with the incident alleging that illegal construction was going on there at the behest of BJP leadersNobody has so far been arrested the Arvind Kejriwal-led party noted and accused the Delhi Police of working under the BJPs pressureThe party demanded that the strictest punishment should be given to the culprits and compensation should be provided to the kin of the victimsTwo labourers died and three others were rescued after a three-storey house that was undergoing renovation collapsed in south Delhis Satya Niketan area on MondayPolice said another labourer who was outside the dilapidated building at the time of the incident had a narrow escapeWhile the police later registered an FIR in connection with the case the BJP-ruled South Delhi Municipal Corporation SDMC also announced a probe into the incidentIf there is one concerned agency which is to be blamed for this collapse it is the BJP-led MCD If individuals must be singled out and held accountable for the incident they are the BJP leaders senior AAP leader Durgesh Pathak said in a statementHe claimed that a construction work was underway at the site to merge two separate houses into one and called it illegalThere is no way that a construction work as major as combining two houses can take place under the nose of the MCD civic body without BJPs connivance in the matter he saidThe AAP demands that the Delhi police register a murder case against the culprits he saidIts been 24 hours not a single person has been arrested no one has been interrogated Police are operating under pressure of the BJP the AAP leader allegedAfter the incident the SDMC had said a notice to the owner of the property had already been issued by the building department against carrying out such alterations on March 31 and the police were later requested on April 11 to stop the workThe question arises why the construction was not abandoned even after the MCD issued a notice the AAP leader Pathak saidHe claimed that the construction work was aimed at combining House No 172 and 173 at the site and the House No 172 was registered under the name of one Neelam Vashisht a relative of the highly influential BJP leader Anil Sharma who has served as councillor from RK Puram and was the BJP candidate over the last two elections This clearly means that the notice was just an actThe BJP leader Anil Sharma and his entire family is to be held accountable for this incident he chargedHitting back Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor accused AAP leader of indulging in dirty politics to malign the SDMC claiming that both the civic body and the local police had tried their best to to stop the unapproved alterations in the buildingBut unfortunately he owner of the property kept on doing it silently mostly at odd hours The property owner is sole culprit he said adding Police will will take penal action in due course and prosecute the accused AAP legislator Pramila Tokas however did not buy the BJPs argumentHow the construction was going on is just beyond my comprehension The local councillor Manish Aggarwal lives right next to the site the ex-MLA of the area also lives there The locals say that the building belongs to their families only It is the BJP who is being shielded the R K Puram MLA said in a statement PTI PK PK TDS TDS

New Delhi Mar 24 PTI The Delhi High Court Thursday termed unfortunate the SDMC and DSIIDC washing away hands over encroachment on public land in Okhla Industrial area and directed the authorities to take action for removing the unauthorised constructionA bench of Acting Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Navin Chawla directed the South Delhi Municipal Corporation SDMC and Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited DSIIDC to nominate one senior officer each as nodal officers and they shall meet to chalk out plan to remove unauthorised construction and encroachment on public land and streets in Okhla Industrial area This is an unfortunate state where two authorities are washing their hands on encroachment on public land the bench said While the counsel for SDMC said the industrial area has been transferred to DSIIDC the lawyer representing DSIIDC submitted that the encroachment has taken place in the jurisdiction of SDMC The court directed SDMC and DSIIDC to file minutes of meeting to be held between the two nodal officers and also their status reports along with photographs to show action taken to remove the encroachment It also directed the DCP South to provide requisite force to remove encroachment in the area The high court was hearing a PIL initiated on its own in which it had earlier sought response of the Lieutenant Governor LG SDMC DSIIDC and Delhi Police Commissioner over the issue of illegal construction and encroachment on public land inOkhlaIndustrial area here The PIL committee of the high court had recommended that a July 7 2017 letter by an individual be treated as a PIL in which he has complained over illegal construction and encroachment on public lands in the industrial area It was alleged in the letter that the illegal construction was not removed by the authorities despite judicial orders and that the locals of the area were facing issues due to illegal grabbing of public land and roads The PIL committee in October 2017 had called for a report from theChief Law Officer of SDMC The bench had noted that a report was received from DSIIDC in October 2021 stating that Okhla Industrial Area Phase 2 was transferred to DSIIDC from SDMC after enactment of Delhi Industrial Development Operation and Maintenance Act 2010 The court had also noted that in the minutes of a meeting held under the chairmanship of LG on August 22 2014 it was recorded that respective municipal corporations of Delhi would take necessary steps for removal of encroachments from common areas in joint operation with DSIIDC and Delhi Police Based on the minutes of meeting the DSIIDC had requested SDMC on multiple occasions for taking necessary action to combat unauthorised encroachment in the industrial area it had noted PTI SKV SA
