Ahmedabad Feb 22 PTI A practicing lawyer was arrested in Gujarats Rajkot city for allegedly hurting religious sentiments and attacking police a senior official said on Tuesday Preliminary investigations have revealed accused Sohil Mor was fond of listening to religious sermons of some Pakistan-based preachers and he had also mentioned Pakistan in some of his writings recovered from his house Deputy Commissioner of Police Crime Branch Manoharsinh Jadeja said Mor a resident of a government housing society in Munjka area in Rajkot city was booked under section 186 and 332 of the IPC for obstructing and assaulting policemen while a second FIR was lodged on the complaint of a woman resident under section 295 for defiling a place of worship and 295A for outraging religious feelings of people the official said On February 19 Mor posted a derogatory comment about Shivaji Maharaj on the societys Whatsapp group When a resident objected and called him he misbehaved with her over the phone On February 20 he engaged in an act which hurt religious sentiments of other residents who then called police Jadeja told reporters in Rajkot on Tuesday Mor was arrested after he misbehaved and attacked a police team that had gone to the housing society after a receiving a complaint call he added Complainant Jyotiba Sodha said she had tried to reason with Mor over phone on his post against Shivaji Maharaj but the latter shot back that Hindus should now leave because the entire area has become Pakistan and all have converted to Islam Sodha in her complaint also claimed Mor came out of his house with large knives on February 20 and broke an idol kept outside the neighbours flat His internet surfing history suggests Mor was fond of listening to religious sermons of some Pakistan based maulvis We found Pakistans mention in his writings too We have launched a detailed probe about his links associations if any with suspicious individuals or organisations said Jadeja PTI PJT PD BNM BNM BNM
Chandigarh Dec 24 PTI Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Friday said his government has sought Centres support to crack the bomb explosion case that rocked the Ludhiana court premises Channi said he had spoken to Home Minister Amit Shah hours after the explosion and that the Centre has dispensed teams to Punjab to investigate the case A bomb went off in the district court complex in Ludhiana on Thursday killing one person and injuring six others prompting the Punjab government to declare a high alert in the state Police suspect that the man killed in the blast on the second-floor toilet was trying to assemble or plant the explosive device The chief minister denied intelligence failure saying There is no such thing We are alert On Thursday the chief minister had expressed his apprehension saying the explosion might have been an attempt to create anarchy in the poll-bound state Later at a public meeting in Ludhianas Mullanpura Dakha he sought to draw a parallel between the registration of an FIR against Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia the blast and the alleged sacrilege bids in the last few days On the desecration row he said the government was mulling over registering a murder case after a man charged with sacrilege attempt at a gurdwara in Ludhiana was lynched We did not find any sacrilege attempt or any evidence to back it One person ran the gurdwara This thing has moved to murder and inquiry is on Channi said The FIR already registered in the case will be amended he said About 30 injuries mostly sharp cuts likely to have been inflicted by swords were found on the mans body according to the postmortem report The lynching took place on Sunday a day after a similar incident occurred at the Golden Temple in Amritsar where a man was killed over an alleged desecration bid A case under Section 295 A acts intended to outrage religious feelings had been registered on the complaint of the gurdwara manager who claimed that he saw the man trying to disrespect the Nishan Sahib religious flag PTI SUN VSD CJ CJ
Chandigarh Dec 20 PTI After the alleged sacrilege bid incident in Kapurthala in which an unidentified man was killed by a mob on Sunday Punjab police officers had at a presser stated that a case of murder had also been registered but soon backtracked on their statement Inspector General of Police Gurinder Singh Dhillon first said at the press conference held hours after the incident on Sunday that two FIRs had been registered The first FIR was registered under Section 295 A deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs of IPC on the statement of the manager of the gurdwara The second FIR number 306 has been registered on the statement of the station house officer and he was present there Dhillon had said Dhillon had said that in FIR number 306 four persons by name and 100 unidentified had been booked The police did not disclose the names of persons who were booked citing that the matter was sensitive Kapurthala Senior Superintendent of Police Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh who was also present at the press conference had said We have already registered a murder case However after the two officers got a few calls during the press conference Dhillon did a U-turn saying the second FIR had not been registered and only one FIR number 305 related to sacrilege had been registered An unidentified man who appeared to be a migrant labourer was thrashed to death by a mob after being accused of disrespecting the Sikh religious flag at a gurdwara in Nizampur village here on Sunday morning The neck and other body parts of the man killed for alleged sacrilege bid at a local gurdwara here had over eight deep sharp cuts that were likely to have been inflicted by swords a senior medical officer of the local civil hospital where his body has been kept said on Monday Police on Monday said no murder case has been registered in this case as yet and their priority is to establish the identity of the man for which they have shared his pictures in media and with the police in other states PTI CHS VSD RT RT
