New Delhi Feb 24 PTI The South Delhi Municipal Corporation SDMC on Thursday decided to develop Shaheedi Park at ITO to pay tribute to freedom fighters where it will install statues of 11 heroes of the Freedom Movement under its Waste-to-Art concept civic officials said Also the civic body gave final approval to its proposal of distributing bicycles to five per cent of the meritorious students of Class 4 studying in SDMC primary schools Both proposals were approved in a house meeting of the SDMC on Thursday These moves come ahead of civic body polls as all the three civic bodies North East and South are scheduled to undergo elections before May this year A notification regarding schedule of the civic election is likely to be announced by the state election commission in the second week of March All the three municipalities are ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party BJP while the Aam Aadmi Party AAP is the principal opposition in the civic bodies Last civic polls were conducted in April 2017 The SDMC in a statement said that the Shaheedi park will be developed on lines of Waste to Wonder Park and Bharat Darshan Park based on the Waste to Art concept SDMC will establish replicas of 11 heroes of Freedom Movement in Shaheedi Park which will spread over 45-acre land Scrap materials available at various SDMC Stores will be used to make replicas of Freedom Fighters Motive behind the development of Shaheedi Park is to make people aware about the glorious history of our country the statement said The park being developed by SDMC will have 11 replicas of freedom fighters including Mahatma Gandhi Bhagat Singh Sukhdev Rajguru and recipients of Paramveer Chakra The park will also have replicas of historical kings and leaders such as Bharat Chanakya Chandragupt Mourya Samrat Ashok Porus Vikramaditya and Samudragupta It will also showcase important historical events and kingdoms such as Vijaynagar Samrajya Kshatriya King Battle of Haldighati Maratha Empire Sikh Empire Battle of 1857 Simon Commission Jaliawala Bagh Massacre Kakori Conspiracy etc It will also have three galleries of Tribes Revolt the statement said Shaheedi Park will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 2929 crore To develop the park SDMC will select the agency through an open tendering process The agency will also ensure upkeep and maintenance of the park for a 10 years period and there will be an option of extension for next 10 years the statement said It added that the agency will make 11 sets and 3 galleries at the park Meanwhile the SDMC also gave final nod to a proposal to provide bicycle to five percent meritorious students both boys and girls of class four studying in its primary schools Municipal officials said that bicycles will be given to students based on their academic performance in class three A proposal in this connection was already approved by the SDMCs standing committee meeting in January this year Officials said that the move is aimed at building health and strength of students along with providing them with the conveyance facility to school and vice versa This scheme will cover 3000 students every year as estimated on the basis of the data of students of current academic year 2021-22 officials said PTI AKM RCJ RCJ

New Delhi Jan 26 PTI To celebrate Republic Day and 75 years of Indias independence under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav the SDMC has illuminated its buildings metro pillars schools parks and key roundabouts an official statement said on Wednesday The South Delhi Municipal Corporations SDMC South Zone has wall-painted the countrys national bird peacock on its six-storeyed house tax building in RK Puram Sector-9 The peacock art measures 70 feet in length and is 26 feet wide In SDMCS iconic Bharat Darshan Park a Tree of Unity has been created from an electric pole tires and childrens play equipment strips Besides this a deer chariot has been set up from parts of a discarded car at Shaheedi Park it stated As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations metro pillars in SDMCS Najafgarh zone are painted to depict the dance forms of India and the countrys rich cultural diversity To mark the occasion the roundabout at Nizamuddin East in Central Zone has been beautified The footpath has been repaired and coloured for ease of pedestrians the statement said The overhead wires at the circle have been removed and the grillboundary has been painted Extensive use of flowers has been done to beautify the circle Flower petals have been used to create a selfie board at the roundabout the statement read In South Zone Qutub Chowk and Kailash Colony roundabouts have been were also beautified and illuminated At the SDMC Park in Central Market a flag-themed structure with light effects has been installed and two trees made with scrap materials have been placed and painted with the tricolour the SDMC stated PTI AKM CJ CJ

New Delhi Nov 23 PTI Civic authorities have set the ball rolling to set up a park themed on the history of Indian cinema in south Delhi and another park which will depict the freedom struggle of the countrySDMCCommissioner Gyanesh Bharati while presentingrevisedbudgetestimates for 2021-22 andbudgetestimates for 2022-23 at the Civic Centre here on Tuesday said to mark the occasion of 75th year of Indias Independence Shaheedi Park and Bollywood Park are to be developed on the lines of the Bharat Darshan ParkBoth these parks will be developed using the concept of waste-to-wealth the budget saidSpread over eight acres replicas of about 20 monuments including Qutab Minar Taj Mahal Charminar Gateway of India Konark Temple Nalanda ruins Mysore Palace Meenakshi Temple Hampi Victoria Memorial Hall Sanchi Stupa Gol Gumbaz Ajanta and Ellora Caves Hawa Mahal are to be installed at the upcoming Bharat DarshanPark in Punjabi BaghThese replicas have been built with scrap and waste materials like dumped vehicles fans iron rods nuts and bolts lying unused or abandoned at SDMC stores Officials on Tuesday said the Bharat Darshan Park is expected to be inaugurated in the next few weeks Work on both the Bollywood Park and Shaheedi Park is in advance stages of conception The latter will be special as it being developed in our old park about 5 acres near ITO to mark 75th year of our Independence and Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav The other park that will depict the history of Indian cinema through various artefacts and exhibits will come up in an old park in Jungpura spread over eight acres a senior SDMC official said The Bollywood Park is planned to be developed on a PPP public private partnership model he said adding history of Indian cinema going as far back as the first film from the country Raja Harishchandra of 1913 will be depicted in an interesting wayThe Waste-to-WonderPark in Sarai Kale Khan area was opened in February 2019 It has replicas of seven world famous monuments including Taj Mahal and Eiffel Tower fashioned out of mechanical wasteDelhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal in February 2020 had termed the park as a shining example of waste-to-wealth concept and said the SDMC should develop more parks which are self-sustained and based on this conceptSouth Delhi Mayor Mukesh Suryan had in October said that the BharatDarshanPark project was delayed for some time due to the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing lockdowns but work is now going on in full swing PTI KND RHL
