Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], February 10 (ANI): The Calcutta High Court directed State Election Commission to hold a meeting with state officials, including Chief Secretary and DGP, to assess the ground situation and decide whether the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) is required during the municipal elections in the state.

Kolkata Dec 31 PTI BJP on Friday released a list of 180 candidates for the election to three civic bodies in West Bengal to be held on January 22 party spokesman Samik Bhattacharya said The party fielded women candidates IN 14 of the 41 seats in Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation The figure was 42 of the 106 wards of Asansol Municipal Corporation and in Chandannagar it gave tickets to nine women contestants out of the total 33 he said We have tried to give more representation to women belonging to both general and SC categories in the muicipal corporation election Bhattacharya said Debashis Jana one time confidant of former mayor and ruling Trinamool Congress candidate Sabyasachi Dutta has been fielded by BJP in ward 31 of Bidhannagar Muninipal Corporation Dutta had defected to BJP but returned to TMC after losing to Sujit Bose a member of the Mamata Banerjees ministry in the April-May West Bengal assembly poll In Asansol Chaitali Tiwari the daughter of TMC turncoat and BJP leader Jitendra Tiwari Chaitali Tiwari has been fielded Jitendra Tiwari former mayor of Asansol Municipal Corporation said if fair polls were held BJP will secure the Asansol Municipal Corporation Apart from the three municipal corporations election in Siliguri Municipal Corporation will also be held on January 22 the State Election Commission had announced PTI SUS KK KK KK

Kolkata Dec 30 PTI West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday stressed on winnability and clean image as the prime criteria while selecting candidates for the coming civic poll in the state party leaders said A TMC core committee meeting was held at Banerjees residence who is also the TMC supremo during the day to discuss the partys strategy and the candidate list for four municipal corporations to be held on January 22 During the meeting our party supremo stressed on winnability clean image and capability to strengthen the partys image in the area These will be the main criteria while selecting candidates for the civic poll senior party leader and Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim said after the meeting The party later announced a list of 227 candidates for election to four municipal corporations Seventysix of them are women Former Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation Mayor Sabyasachi Dutta who had quit the party in 2019 to join BJP only to return after the 2021 assembly polls was given nomination from ward number 31 in Bidhannagar The West Bengal State Election Commission had on Monday announced that the poll to Siliguri Chandannagar Bidhannagar and Asansol municipal corporations will be held on January 22 According to sources in TMC some sitting councillors in these civic bodies whose performance has not been up to the mark and have earned the party a bad name have been dropped The report on our councillors prepared by I-PAC has played a key role while selecting candidates another senior TMC leader said on the condition of anonymity During the December 19 Kolkata Municipal Corporation KMC poll the ruling TMC had dropped 39 out of 124 sitting councillors Like in the KMC poll the party is also likely to issue a stern warning to all its candidates against using any form of force during the poll the leader said The party will not tolerate any use of force during the coming civic election If anyone is found to be involved in any form of violence on the polling day strict action will be taken the leader said Out of the four civic bodies where the poll will be held on January 22 the TMC had won three in 2015 The Left Front had won the election in Siliguri Municipal Corporation The election could not held in 2020 due to the pandemic situation PTI PNT KK KK KK
