Ranchi Mar 31 PTI With Jharkhand experiencing sweltering heat zoo authorities are making arrangements like providing air-coolers and special diet to ensure that inmates stay healthy at Bhagwan Birsa Biological Park popularly known as Birsa zoo hereJharkhand witnessed a temperature of around 40 degree Celsius and Ranchi recorded its maximum at 38 degree Celsius in the past 24 hoursThe authorities have provided air-coolers in enclosures for tigers and lions while fruits like water melon and cucumber are being served to herbivoresBesides they are also being given glucose drinking water mixed with Electral powder and multi-vitamins to protect them from the impact of heat zoo officials saidSpread over 104 hectares of area in Ranchis Ormanjhi area the zoo houses about 1450 wild animals comprising 83 species of mammals reptiles and birdsZoo director Jabbar Singh told PTI Animals mainly carnivores suffer the most from rising mercury So we have ensured proper summer diet adequate water and shade for such animalsWe have installed coolers for nine tigers and four lions in the zoo besides putting jute sacks around the cages to provide protection from heat Herbivores are being served fruits having water content to keep them hydrated Veterinary doctor of the zoo Dr O P Sahu told PTI that rising temperature increases the respiration rate of animals especially those of carnivoresSo diets of tigers and lions have been restricted Their daily meat intake has been reduced by 2 kg The health of animals is being monitored at regular intervals by the keepers he saidDr Sahu said elephants are being given regular baths and fruits having water contentAccording to the weather bulletin of Ranchis meteorological centre six districts of the state --Garhwa Palamu Chatra Latehar Simdega and West Singhbum --are likely to experience heat wave condition on ThursdayGarhwa Palamu Chatra Koderma and Giridih districts might be experiencing the same on Friday it saidThe weather department said any major change in maximum temperature is unlikely till April 2The temperature may gradually dip by two to three degree Celsius after April 3 the bulletin saidJharkhands Daltonganj recorded the highest 427 degree Celsius in past 24 hours while Garhwa simmered at 414 degree Celsius Jamshedpur recorded 406 degree Celsius in past 24 hoursIn view of the situation Ranchis Sadar Hospital has reserved 20 beds for heat stroke patients The hospital authority is planning to dedicate about 100 beds for such patients PTI SAN NAM MM MM

Ranchi Mar 28 PTI At least 10 districts in Jharkhand are likely to come under the tight grip of a heat wave for three days from Wednesday weather department officials said on MondayThe maximum temperature might touch 43 degree Celsius in some places they cautionedThe districts that could get affected by the heat wave are Garhwa Palamu Latehar Chatra Bokaro Dhanbad Simdega East and West Singhbhum and Seraikela-KharswanSC Mandal scientist at the meteorological centre of Ranchi told PTI Maximum temperature will rise across Jharkhand due to unrestricted flow of westerly and northwesterly winds from Gujarat Rajasthan Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh where heat wave conditions are already prevailing A heat wave is a period of unusually hot weather when the maximum temperature departure ranges between 45 and 64 degreesMandal said that maximum temperature may rise by three degree Celsius in Ranchi However a heat wave condition is unlikely in the state capitalRanchi is currently simmering at 354 degree Celsius 17 degree higher than the normal temperatureGodda turned out to be the hottest district with maximum temperature at 393 degree Celsius in past 24 hours Daltonganj simmered at 39 degrees Celsius and Jamshedpur at 388 degree Celsius during the periodOn the impact of the heat wave the meteorological centre said that it could lead to moderate health problems for infants the elderly and those with chronic diseasesIt advised people to drink sufficient water wear light-coloured cotton clothes and cover head with a cloth hat or umbrella it saidThe department in its bulletin said that the heat wave could also impact crops like wheat chickpea lentil pea mustard vegetables cucurbitaceous and summer riceIt suggested that optimum soil moisture be maintained by frequent irrigation and the crops which are ripe be immediately be harvested PTI SAN NAM RMS RMS

Ranchi Feb 25 PTI The Jharkhand government on Friday allowed schools in all districts of the state to reopen from class one onwards as the Covid situation has improved Earlier the government had allowed schools to reopen for all classes in 17 out of 24 districts barring Ranchi East Singhbhum Chatra Deoghar Saraikela Simdega and Bokaro -- which had been reporting comparatively higher number of COVID cases In these seven districts schools were earlier allowed to reopen for classes 9 to 12 from February 1 However offline exams have been barred for class 1 to 8 in these seven districts till March 31 2022 a statement from the state government said This decision was taken at a meeting of the State Disaster Management Authority chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Friday Institutions of higher education such as colleges universities and ITIs were allowed to reopen earlier The Jharkhand government on January 3 had brought back Covid-related restrictions shutting down all educational institutions and tourist places and capping attendance in offices at 50 per cent The government also allowed swimming pools and stadiums to reopen for all while permitting sports events with spectators with the permission of concerned deputy commissioners The government relaxed the cap on gatherings at open places allowing a maximum of 500 people in place of 200 earlier For closed spaces a maximum of 500 persons or 50 per cent of the capacity was allowed Permission has also been given for full attendance in government and private offices All parks and tourist places that were closed have been allowed to open while permission has been given to restaurants bars cinema halls shops and shopping malls to open with full capacity The statement said that all shops and commercial establishments can now open to their normal timings instead of earlier 8 pm deadline However all fairs processions and exhibitions will remain prohibited it added Jharkhand witnessed a dip in COVID-19 cases registering only 62 cases during the last 24 hours taking the total caseload to 434219 in the state The toll remained at 5313 as no fresh fatality was reported in the last 24 hours State capital Ranchi East Singhbhum and Seraikela reported 11 cases each during the last 24 hours PTI NAM RG RG

Ranchi Feb 18 PTI Five girls including three minors allegedly being trafficked have been rescued from a bus stand and two people suspected to be involved in the racket have been arrested from Simdega district in Jharkhand Simdega superintendent of police SP Dr Shams Tabrez said that the girls in the age group of 14 and 18 were being taken to Delhi via Ranchi On a tip-off anti-human trafficking unit AHTU police station in charge and his team raided the Simdega bus stand on Thursday and rescued the girls Two traffickers were arrested with e-tickets the SP told PTI The two persons have been sent to jail on Friday and the girls are being sent for medical examination the SP said The police claimed to have intensified vigilance against human traffickers in the district In the past 16 months a total of 100 girls boys and women have been rescued from the clutches of traffickers and 37 people have been sent to jail in this connection a police statement said PTI SAN NAM MM MM

Ranchi Jan 24 PTI Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday laid the foundation stone for 14 rice mills across 10 districts and said 100 more facilities are required to meet demand for the agricultural product The CM stated that his government has been working to strengthen infrastructure related to farming as procurement of huge quantity of rice is a challenge The 14 mills will be set up at Garhwa Palamu Latehar West Singhbhum Khunti Gumla Simdega Dhanbad Bokaro and Godda We are committed to create agriculture infrastructure In absence of proper facilities at present the government is not able to procure an adequate quantity of rice from farmers We will set up these 14 mills soon so that growers get remunerative prices At least 100 more such units are required Soren said Around 70 per cent of the states population depends on agriculture for livelihood he said Soren also mentioned that the government has been buying the crop and has fixed the minimum support price for it but once the infrastructure is augmented procurement will also be enhanced Jharkhand now has 80 rice mills The total rice cultivation in the state is 50-60 lakh tonnes per year but only 15 lakh tonnes are sent to mills in absence of infrastructure Soren said Apart from rice mills the government is focusing on food processing units dairy animal husbandry and fishery he added PTI NAM BDC BDC
