Nagpur Apr 24 PTI A constable allegedly hanged himself to death at his house in police quarters in Maharashtras Nagpur city apparently as he was depressed over his fiancee calling off their engagement and marrying someone else a few months ago an official said on Sunday The incident occurred at police quarters in Dharampeth police colony during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday the official from Sitabuldi police station said The deceased identified as Kiran Ashok Salame 30 resided at the quarters He was a native of Wardha district he said He had joined the police force in 2014 and was attached to Sadar police station here since the past one year He was allotted two quarters at Dharampeth police colony where he was living on the first floor while his mother and brother were staying on the second floor in another building there the official said Salame was engaged with the daughter of one of his relatives and the engagement ceremony had taken place last year However his fiancee girl broke off the engagement saying she wanted to marry someone else The girl tied the nuptial knot with another person in January this year Since then he had been depressed he said On Saturday Salame returned home from duty After having dinner with family member he went to his quarters where he hanged himself to death from the ceiling fan he said No suicide note was recovered from the spot but his family members suspect that broken engagement could be behind his extreme step police said Meanwhile his younger brother could not bear the shock of his siblings death and went to the roof of the building with the intention of ending his life but was rescued by some police personnel in time who later counselled him PTI COR NP NP

Nagpur Dec 18 PTI A police constable sat on the bonnet of a car in a bid to stop it from getting away after jumping a traffic signal here in Maharashtra on Saturday police said The car had jumped a traffic signal at Morris College T-Point On receiving information the constable Sagar Hiwrale approached the car which was stopped at another signal at the Panchsheel square an official said Even as Hiwrale was talking to the car driver he sped up Seeing that the motorist was getting away the constable sat on its bonnet The driver stopped the car after around 50 metres he said The car driver identified as Sagar Bhujade 45 told the constable that he was in a hurry to rush an ailing woman to a hospital Personnel of the Sitabuldi police station and traffic police also rushed to the spot Police allowed the car driver to go after cross-checking his claim A case was registered against him for violation of the Motor Vehicle Act PTI COR NSK NSK

Nagpur Oct 31 PTI Two police personnel sustained minor injuries when an externed criminal tried to run them over with his motorcycle in Sitabuldi area here in Maharashtra police said on Sunday The accused Laksh alias Lucky Sanjay Turkel was externed from the Nagpur city limits for his criminal activities On Saturday API Pawar and constable Kamlesh Gahlot spotted Turkel in the Sitabuldi area When the policemen attempted to stop Turkel he tried to run them over and fled with his motorcycle A case was registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code PTI COR NSK NSK
