New Delhi Mar 25 PTI An IIT Hyderabad developed portable cost-effective and IoT-enabled ventilator powered by lithium-ion batteries is now available for commercial use officials said on FridayThe smart ventilator named Jeevan Lite was launched by Telangana and Puducherry Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Thursday Each unit costs Rs 4 lakh against similar imported devices priced at Rs 10-15 lakh per unitMaintenance of medical devices was affected due to delay in import of certain parts during the Covid pandemic Hence innovations like Jeevan Lite will improve the healthcare facilities for the public Soundararajan saidAccording to IIT officials the Internet-of-Things IoT-enabled ventilator operates uninterrupted in synchronized intermittent mandatory ventilation continuous mandatory ventilation adaptive and hybrid modes of ventilation for five hours and is both invasive and non-invasive It can be controlled using a smartphone appAerobiosys Innovations Private Limited co-founded in 2019 by two young Biodesign Innovation fellows of the Center for Healthcare Entrepreneurship at IIT Hyderabad has designed the ventilatorIt has been designed based on the Turbine-driven flow method which provides independence from gas cylinders or compressors It also comes with an integrated nebuliser with auto cut-off precise timer a senior IIT Hyderabad official saidJeevan Lite features all the essential modes expected from an advanced ventilation system in one adaptable platform It also presents a wide range of tools to help you stabilise the patient and wean them off the ventilator the official addedThe system has an intuitive user interface design with each function in a logical order so that clinicians do not have to navigate a complex menu the official saidIn addition both the valves and flow sensor support autoclaving a safety concept designed to meet the current clinical trends of protecting patients even under the most demanding conditionsThe system also displays real-time information of the breath pattern and other critical lung parameters the official saidIt can attach to an oxygen cylinder and operate on its own in ambient air The accessories and consumables are specially developed for the highest possible patient safety and ease of use according to the officialThis enables the hospitals and the institutes to choose between reusable and disposable parts according to their institutional policies the official saidSAMRIDH Healthcare Blended Finance Facility which has provided funding support to Aerobiosys for developing the ventilator said the Jeevan Lite would contribute in improving the countrys healthcare sectorWe feel that blending grant capital with commercial capital has potential to provide entities like Aerobiosys the impetus required to scale-up their operations and contribute towards improved healthcare in the country especially in tier 23 towns and rural areas Himanshu Sikka project director SAMRIDH Healthcare saidWe are committed to support the innovation ecosystem in the country by providing them access to affordable growth capital technical and business advisory support he added PTI GJS RHL

Puducherry Nov 30 PTI Puducherry Lt Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Tuesday said the administration has come up with an action plan to achieve cent per cent vaccination against coronavirus and also to prevent Omicron the new variant of the virus from affecting people in the union territory Talking to reporters after visiting a vaccination booth here the Lt Governor said she had held discussions with officials of the Department of Health and also representatives of private medical colleges earlier at her office She said a detailed discussion was held on Omicron and added that she had asked the health officials to intensify their steps to rise to any exigency although there was so far no report of the new variant being detected Soundararajan said that three people who had come to Puducherry recently from South Africa were being monitored closely She said that the government was considering a proposal to adopt certain restrictions to ensure that those visiting Puducherry were subject to checking for Covid-19 Door-to-door inspection to ascertain vaccination of residents would be taken up on December 4 and 5 she said PTI Cor SS SS
